BREAKING NEWS: First Presidency Adjusts Sunday Meeting Schedules

Good evening, everyone! Tonight, the First Presidency announced a major adjustment to the Sunday meeting schedule. Effective September 6, 2026, the Church block will consist of a 1-hour Sacrament Meeting, a 5-minute transition to classes, 25 minutes of Sunday School, and 25 minuttes of Elders' Quorum/Relief Society.

Sunday School General President Paul V. Johnson noted the following: “Gathering weekly in every class helps deepen gospel learning by connecting it more closely to personal and family study. It also enhances the spiritual support that members get. Though the schedule looks different, the amount of time spent learning together remains the same.”

Sunday School classes will continue to use "Come, Follow Me". Aaronic Priesthood quorums and Young Women groups will be taught from "For the Strength of Youth." And adults will continue to learn from General Conference talks in Priesthood/Relief Society.

Of the new scheduled, Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson stated: “There is additive strength that comes when we meet each week to counsel, learn, and support one another, When we gather in His name, the Spirit is there to teach us, testimonies are strengthened, and we lift each other in discipleship. This weekly time for connection will help us draw closer to the Savior and each other. We find joy in walking the covenant path together.”

Of strenghtening worship in Sacrament Meeting, the news release states: "While the length of sacrament meeting remains unchanged, leaders are encouraged to deliberately consider ways to strengthen the quality of worship and help sacrament meeting become more central in the lives of Latter-day Saints. Members are invited to seek meaningful ways to enrich their own worship experience. Sacrament meeting is a time of joy, reverence, and welcoming fellowship centered on the Savior Jesus Christ.

"The fifth Sunday in August 2026 will be dedicated for preparation and discussion by youth, their parents, and their leaders. Additional preparation and discussion for members will take place during the second hour on September 6, 2026. Resources, training materials, and answers to common questions will be made available in the coming weeks."

I am grateful for this landmark adjustment and testify that it is inspired by the Lord. I invite you all to stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now. Among other key updates are the death of President Holland (the death of President Nelson was covered in the October 2025 World Rport, the reorganization of the First Presidency, the calling of two new apostles, and templ updates, including the announcement of the Portland Maine Temple. The Newsroom also shared this home page as a repository for all things General Conference related. Subsequent coverage at some point today will include the area seventies released and sustained in the General Conference leadership session today, in addition to more Easter posts from the apostles. 7. Oh, good grief! Today is Wednesday, not Thursday. That means the changes in area seventies won't be noted until sometime tomorrow. Sorry about that mistake on my part. The Church News has covered the aforementioned release of the April 2026 edition of the world report. My thanks once again to you all.

    9. The Church News has provided more information about the new youth curriculum, and a summary of Elder Ronald A. Rasband's Brazilian ministry, which may suggest he now has oversight for the Brazil Area of the Church.

And the Newsroom's coverage of Easter social media posts by general Church leaders has been updated with posts by Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson and Primary General President Susan H. Porter. Other apostolic and general officer posts will be added to that News release for the next week and a half or so.

My thanks once again to you all.

    10. We are less than one full day into the second quarter of 2026, and the latter part of the temple construction queue has undergone massive changes, including full-scale construction efforts beginning on several temples for which construction has been pending for a while now. So what has changed? Here is what the relevant portion of that queue looked like as of March 26:

Budapest Hungary; Winchester Virginia; Vancouver Washington; Tacloban City Philippines; Tampa Florida; Wellington New Zealand; Lone Mountain Nevada; Antananarivo Madagascar; Singapore; Cape Town South Africa; Fairbanks Alaska; João Pessoa Brazil; & Heber Valley Utah.

And here is what that same portion of the queue looks like as of this evening:

Budapest Hungary; Winchester Virginia; Vancouver Washington; Lone Mountain Nevada; Tacloban City Philippines; Tampa Florida; Wellington New Zealand; Antananarivo Madagascar; Jacksonville Florida; Fairbanks Alaska; João Pessoa Brazil; Cape Town South Africa; Fairview Texas; Heber Valley Utah; & Singapore.

I am working on establishing what has changed in terms of temple construction status updates that may correlate with these adjustments in the current temple construction queue, and will pass those along to you all here as soon as I can after those updates are made. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    11. I am still trying to ascertain how the aforementioned changes in the temple construction queue order may correspond to changes reported for the affected temples, but in the interim, I discovered four temples for which I may not have reported the latest status updates: Cali Colombia; Tarawa Kiribati; Lubumashi Democratic Republic of the Congo; and Vancouver Wash8ington. I will be back shortly with status updates based upon the changes in the current temple construction queue. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    13. And updates have been noted on the following temples that have had sites announced and exterior renderings released, most of which appear likely to have groundbreakings in the next year or so: Lehi Utah, Couer d'Alene Idaho, Colorado Springs Colorado, Tulsa Oklahoma, Naga Philippines, and Osaka Japan. My thanks once again to you all.

  2. On this Thursday, though I will come back and share other updates later, I wanted to note that the Church has reported >a href="https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders/2026/04/02/91-new-area-seventies-sustained-april-2026-general-conference/" >area seventy changes. Namely, 73 area seventies will be released on or before August 1, and 91 new area seventies have been called, which is a net gain of 18. The reports in question also confirmed that the Canada Area is indeed part of the Tenth Quorum of the Seventy, which I suspected was the case. It is nice to have that confirmed. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. The Church News link was not posted correctly above. My apologies for the oversight. Above and beyond that, one of the new area seventies in the Fourth Quorum (Thịnh Phúc Phan) does not have a city and state/nation listed, so I assume he's in the Asia Area. Hopefully that's a safe assumption to make. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
