BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: First Presidency Announces Site Locations for 3 US Temples
Unless I am mistaken, this brings the number of temples which could potentially have a groundbreaking within the next 12-18 months to around 19. The First Presidency certainly is placing a high priority on moving things along where they can. And quite honestly, when I saw temple news, I was anticipating something more official on the Harare, Nairobi, or Bengaluru temples. But I am grateful that the Lord has opened the way for this preliminary information to be released for these temples, which indicates to me that city leaders in these locations are anxious to have a temple in their midst.
For my part, I continue to monitor all Church news and temple updates and will do my level best to pass word of those along to you all as I receive such news. That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.
At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.
I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.
And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.
Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
In Orem, both sides are hoping the approvals go quickly, and although that could take more time than expected, this came out in a Daily Herald article posted online today also:
ReplyDeleteChurch leaders met with Orem leadership recently said this would be a quick process, according to Jamie Davidson, city manager.
Davidson said the church would like to break ground on the new temple this coming summer, however in a church press release Wednesday it did not set a date, citing the need to work with city officials on preliminary plans and filing of public documents in the coming months.
James Anderson, thank you for providing further context with the information you shared. Anyone who wants to read the article to which James referred above can do so at the following web address:

Until further details are announced one way or another, I am personally going to be more conservative in my estimates for the timing of future temple events, where I feel confident in indicating such a time-frame. Later today, I hope that, later today, I will be able to publish a shareable link to the sections of my temple construction progress report which have been updated in view of this news.
In the meantime, James Anderson, thanks for taking time to comment. I hope you are doing all right in terms of your health, as I know that's been a struggle for you, just as mine has been for me lately. On the day of the most recent procedure I had done (which occurred the day before Thanksgiving and was done at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo), although my memories of recovering and being discharged are somewhat fuzzy, I thought I noticed a "James Anderson" on the patient logs, and remember wondering if that was you. But I was probably mistaken in that respect. And I'm not expecting you to either confirm or deny it, just thought it was an interesting coincidence, if nothing more. Either way, hope all is going well for you. Thanks, as always, James Anderson, for providing additional context into what I report here, and for taking time to comment.
James,
ReplyDeleteOn the church growth blog you estimate 10 International temples which could have a Groundbreaking and only 6 which have not had their site officially identified. What are the 4 that have, I only know of Auckland and Phnom Penh.
Scott S, great question. The best way I can answer that is by sharing the list of temples I have divided between 3 sections in my Temple Construction Progress Report. I hope that provides additional context.
DeleteI have the following temples in a "Groundbreaking anticipated" status: Richmond, Layton, Feather River, and Phnom Pehn. In the "Announcement of Official Details Pending" section, I have the following temples: Bengaluru, Nairobi, Brasilia, Greater Manila, and Harare.
In the new "Temples Which Have Had a Site Confirmed or Reportedly Acquired" section are the following temples: Auckland, Tooele, Moses Lake, Washington County, Orem, Taylorsville, McAllen, Managua, San Pedro Sula, and Coban.
Regarding the latter 3, my Central American contact reports that sites have been acquired for each, and that all 3 will likely see their groundbreakings occur before the 2020 July recess for the General Authorities of the Church.
Potential sites have also been identified for the following temples: Bentonville, Port Moresby, Salta, Mendoza, and Antofagasta.. Additionally, two potential locations have been identified for the Pago Pago American Samoa Temple.
With all of that noted, I'd also like to mention that my math may have been off in the comment to which you referred. And if that is the case, I apologize. But unless I am also mistaken about this, only 9 of the 35 temples announced by President Nelson have not had a site confirmed or reportedly acquired. That's what I know for now. And having shared that here, maybe I won't need to pass along an updated copy of those sections of my temple construction progress report.
Thanks again, Scott, for taking time to comment. I always appreciate hearing from you and hope I adequately answered your questions.
Just to clarify, the 9 Nelsonian temples for which I don't presently have any information are the following: Okinawa, Lagos, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Neiafu, Budapest, Freetown, Bacolod, and Russia. Hope this additional information is helpful to you, Scott, and to all who read it.

Hello again, everyone! The Church's official Newsroom has reported on the 2019 Christmas Concerts for the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, at which Broadway actress and singer Kelli O'Hara and renowned actor Richard Thomas (the latter of whom provided the narration) were the featured guests. The first concert was held last night. There will be another held tonight, with one more held on Saturday, if I have my information correct. You can read more about that concert here:

In the meantime, the Church News has shared another video. In the latest one, Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Katherine J. Christofferson, discuss how meeting with the Saints around the world, and with world political and religious leaders, has a surprisingly energizing effect on them:

As I read about that, I remembered the promise in the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood, wherein the Lord promises that those who honor and magnify their priesthood, and who worthily serve where they are called to do so, will be "sanctified by the Spirit to the renewal of their bodies." I testify we are seeing a fulfillment of that promise in the daily ministry of our apostles, I continue to monitor all CHurch news and temple updates and will do my level best to pass word of those along to you all as I receive it. In the meantime, thanks again, everyone!
Here is the Church News report on the Christmas Concerts as well:

Hello again, everyone! The latest edition of “This Week on Social” has been published. Given the approaching Christmas season, most of the messages focused on a Christmas theme. Although the latest edition is a shorter one, the messages therein are well worthy of review:

Hello again, everyone! I almost forgot I had another temple update to report. A ferw days ago, new information of which I became aware noted an update on the Mesa Arizona Temple. The latest information I have indicates that final windows are being installed, bollards are being added around the temple site, curbing and sidewalks are being poured along Lesueur (the street on which the temple is located), and the pageant stage is coming down.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it is now almost 7:00 PM in Arequipa Peru, so the youth devotional is either just getting underway or almost completed, with the dedication following tomorrow for the temple in that city. As previously noted, Church President Russell M. Nelson is presiding over that event this weekend. I will be sure to pass along reports on the youth devotional and dedication ASAP after I learn of them. In the meantime, my thanks once again to you all.
Hello again, everyone! As previously mentioned, President Nelson is in Arequipa Peru this weekend to dedicate the Arequipa Peru Temple. I had wondered who might accompany him and how soon we might hear news about the youth devotional. Tonight, that question was answered in the following Church News article:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2019-12-14/elder-soares-miracles-arequipa-youth-temple-169878
Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presided at the youth devotional, accompanied by his wife, Rosana, Bishop Dean M. Davies, First Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric and his wife, Darla, and Elder Enrique R. Falabella, a General Authority Seventy who presides over the South America Northwest Area, and his second wife, Ruth. So tomorrow, I anticipate the participation of many of these leader in the temple dedication, in addition to that of President Russell M. Nelson and his wife, Wendy. In the meantime, my thanks once again to you all.
Sorry. Here is a translated version of the news release about the youth devotional, which also included remarks from Elder Kevin R. Duncan, Executive Director of the Temple Department, and his second wife, Nancy.
