BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Location Confirmed and Exterior Rendering Released for the Tallahassee Florida Temple

Hello again, everyone! Within the last hour or so, the Newsroom has shared the announcement of the location and rendering for the Tallahassee Florida Temple. That temple, one of 3 in the United States to be announced in April of last year, will be located at 2440 Papillon Way in Tallahassee. The temple is planned to be a single-story edifice of approximately 29,000 square feet.  The design includes a domed cupola, atop which a single spire will be featured. And yet again, no angel Moroni has been included with the design of this Nelsonian-era temple.

In looking at the temple's size in comparison to the timing within which similiarly-sized temples have seen construction begin, I'd say to look for construction on this temple to begin in the mid-to-latter part of this year (probably somewhere between April-August). And the fact that it has had a rendering released would technically put that temple ahead of the Lindon Utah Temple in the queue (since only a site location and preliminary details have been noted on that temple). So now there is yet another reason for me to revise my previously-offered thoughts contained in the temple documents which I keep.

Look for that in the coming days. In the interim, here is an updated look at the data on the temples for which no information has been officially released yet. Given that we are still in mid-January of this year, I have no doubt there is much more to come this year. And that's not exclusively true of temples being built here in the United States. I wouldn't rule out the prospect of some major announcements being made to help clear the queue of more temples outside the United States in the near future.

As I am able to revise the information in the files I keep on temples, you can be sure I will be passing those updates along to you all here. That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray tat the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  2. I anticipate a site announcement for Pittsburgh will probably follow in not too long now. At least by conference, but I'm going to guess before that. Excited to see what this year will bring in terms of temple news and announcements!

    1. Eric, I agree, given that a potential location has been identified for that temple, it wouldn't surprise me to see action taken soon on Pittsburgh. I've come to a decision, and that is to drop some major teasers here in the commeents for any who are interested:

Based on what I know currently, I anticipate that groundbreakings will occur prior to the April General Conference for the following temples: Syracuse Utah, Phnom Pehn Cambodia, and Tooele Valley Utah. Groundbreakings could also be held not long after General Conference for the Pago Pago American Samoa, Neiafu Tonga, and Port Moresby Papua New Guinea Temples. In addition, Tallahassee Florida and Lindon Utah could see groundbreakings by no later than August or September.

more official information coming down the pike for the following temples in the very near future, whether in this order or any other: Salvador Brazil (for which I anticipate a simultaneous confirmation of its' location, rendering, and groundbreaking ceremony being scheduled), Lagos Nigeria, Nairobi Kenya, Managua Nicaragua, Bahia Blanca Argentina, and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

I think it is also safe for me to note at this tiee that I additionally anticipate that at least one of the temples for which extensive delays were anticipated could see action taken sooner rather than later. I am still gathering information on all of this and hope to have updated documentation of it all available before the end of this month. In the meantime, thanks, Eric, for taking time to weigh in here. I always appreciate hearing from you.

    2. Incidentally, I am also pleased to report here that it appears that something shifted to allow the Church to include the Shanghai PRC temple on the official list (under "Announced"):

      https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/temples/list?lang=eng

It should also be noted that the Church lists several temples which have had a groundbreaking (and should thus be in the "Under Construction" section) in the "Announced" section. Thanks again, Eric, and my thanks again to all the rest of you as well.

  3. I have heard rumors that because of the uproar over the community planned around the Tooele temple that the church might change the location to another property in another nearby city and not in Erda. Just what I've heard, but no way to prove either way.

    1. Kenny, thanks for stopping by to comment on this. While there is past precedent for the Church relocating some temples under certain circumstances, I don't anticipate that being true for the Tooele Valley Utah Temple.

In August of last year, the rumor that the temple might be relocated first came to my attention through the KSL comment threads on the report of the Church withdrawing the rezoning request:

      https://www.ksl.com/article/50007804/latter-day-saint-leaders-withdraw-rezoning-request-for-proposed-tooele-valley-temple-community

Then, just last month, Fox13 shared this report:

      https://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/tooele-county-restaurant-being-evicted-after-more-than-two-decades-of-business

Nutshelling that report, last year, the Church became the landlord for the restaurant in question. They put the owner on a monthly lease, but strongly encouraged him to look at relocating it.

The owner chose to not take that advice, and in the interim, the Church has been working on a fix to get the temple underway on the announced spot.

In late November, the Church served the owner with an eviction notice and instructions to vacate the premises by the end of the year. After not bothering to make the effort to find a new spot for the restaurant, the owner turned around and griped about the Church making him fire his employees around Christmas.

If the Church is using the property on which Virg's operated until December 27, more likely than not, the land will be used for the revised temple plans.

Unless they do opt to relocate the temple so the original plans for the residential part of that can go forward, then the original plans may be altered, with the Church building the temple on the announced spot, with the altered residential development including the land on which the closed Virg's facility now stands. It will be interesting to see what happens there. Thanks, Kenny, for taking time to comment.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
