BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Groundbreakings Set for the Farmington New Mexico and Lindon Utah Temples

Hello again, everyone! A short time ago, the Newsroom and the Church News shared an exciting announcement:The second and third temple groundbreakings have been set for 2022. First up will be the Lindon Utah Temple. Elder Kevin W. Pearson, Utah Area President, will preside over that event, which will take place on Saturday April 23. The Lindon Utah Temple was one of six originally announced in October 2020, with a site announcement following two months later, with a rendering added to that announcement roughly six months later, As we also know, it has been previously confirmed that the Lindon Utah Temple will feature two baptistries.

The Farmington New Mexico Temple groundbreaking will occur on Saturday April 30, under the direction of Elder Anthony D. Perkins, who currently serves as the President of the Middle East/Africa North Area, but is a native of the region of Colorado that will also apparently be served by that temple. The temple, originially announced in April 2021, with a site confirmation following in mid-June of that same year, and the release of an exterior rendering following 4 months after that.

I received information late yesterday indicating that the Farming temple might have a groundbreaking sooner than I expected, but I was not able to confirm the details at that time. That being said, I do think this marks the beginning of a string of temple groundbreakings which could soon be announced. Among the next to have a groundbreaking are likely the Elko Nevada and Belo Horizonte Brazil Temples, along with several other temples in the United States, and perhaps also the Bahia Blanca Argentina Temple.

Whenever those announcements are made, I will be sure to pass word of those along to you all here. I am also monitoring all Church news updates and any other temple construction developments, and will likewise be sure to pass those along as I become aware thereof. In the meantime, that does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines.

Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. Hello again, everyone! With today being Tuesday, the only temple reopening update reported by the Church has been that the Montreal Quebec Temple officially transitioned back to phase 3 this week as planned. The details (and the resulting status of each temple) can be confirmed in the following articles:

    https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/first-presidency-limited-reopening-temples

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/temples/2022-02-01/temple-reopening-status-tracker-worldwide-199279

The Newsroom has shared one additional report:

    https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/familysearch-1950-us-census-community-project

Additionally, something else from the Newsroom is worth noting: Yesterday, the "Events" page on Newsroom clarified the plans for this year's Temple and Family History Leadership Training:

    https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/event/2022-temple-and-family-history-leadership-instruction

That event shows that Elders David A. Bednar and Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be joined by Primary General President Sister Camille N. Johnson and Sister Reyna I. Aburto, Second Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency. In last year's event, Elder Bednar was joined by Elder Stevenson (who just bore his testimony as he and his wife were the featured speakers for Family Discovery Day) and Elder Renlund.

We know that the two junior apostles were also serving on the Temple and Family History Executive Council, but we also had confirmation last year that Elder Renlund is now serving with Elder Uchtdorf on the Priesthood and Family Executive Council. Therefore, since Elder Gong is the only other apostle mentioned as attending this year's meeting, we can safely surmise that Elder Gong is the other (or one of the other two) current apostle(s) serving on the Temple and Family History Executive Council, which is especially likely since we know Sisters Johnson and Aburto have also been identified as serving on that Council. The only question is, are any other apostles serving on that Council, or is it just now Elders Bednar and Gong? If there is another apostle, it's likely either Elder Rasband or Elder Soares. Hopefully that might be clarified during the meeting in question.

    1. The First Presidency has begun announcing new temple presidents for this year, with the first 8 announced today:

I will let the biographies speak for themselves, but would like to note that the first president for the Helena Montana Temple has been identified, and that the article indicates these new leaders will begin serving in September. I have not yet completed (but am actively working on) my lists of temples which will have an extended closure period this year, and on the list of temples for which new presidents have been or might be called. Stay tuned for more on that as i can make it happen. My thanks once again to you all.

  3. Hello again, everyone! Ordinarily, the Church News reports on new mission or temple presidents have each occurred once per week. But lately, it seems as though there is no regular schedule on those updates. With that in mind, here are the next 16 biographies for new mission leaders:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/callings/2022-02-04/new-mission-presidents-companions-nigeria-india-brazil-alabama-philippines-241528

And here is a new article from Church News editor Sister Sarah Jane Weaver:

    1. The Newsroom provided a copy of the interview shared yesterday by the Church News. Although I could be mistaken, the Newsroom edition thereof seems more detailed than the original version:

      https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/presidents-oaks-and-president-eyring-answers-to-8-questions-about-revelation-in-councils

Here is the Church News edition for comparison:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2022-02-03/president-oaks-eyring-interview-revelation-in-councils-240925

The Church News also published an article about how Church members and friends of other faiths in South America are being blessed through humanitarian donations from the Church:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/global/2022-02-04/church-humanitarian-donations-are-blessing-lives-in-south-america-colombia-peru-paraguay-241850

And the latest edition of "This Week on Social" has been published as well:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2022-02-04/social-media-elder-holland-ballard-renlund-love-of-god-loving-others-youth-avoiding-contention-241973

The latest installment in that ongoing series featured articles from the following general leaders: Acting President M. Russell Ballard and Elders Jeffrey R. Holland, Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Quentin L. Cook, D. Todd Christofferson, and Dale G. Renlund, all of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Sisters Michelle D. Craig and Rebecca L. (Becky) Craven, the respective First and Second Counselors in the Young Women General Presidency; Primary General President Sister Camille N. Johnson and her Second Counselor, Sister Amy A. Wright; and Brother Bradley R. (Brad) Wilcox, Second Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency.

I'd just like to note a couple other things here: First of all, there has been a major overhaul in the queue of temples now under construction, particularly those anticipated to be dedicated sometime this year or next year. I will have an updated version of my temple construction progress report published here to showcase the changes at some point this weekend (hopefully sooner rather than later).

I am likewise working on refining my predictions for the April 2022 General Conference, which will include brief and short notes highlighting important points. On Sunday, I will publish a post in honor of Elder Rasband's 71st birthday, which will be followed two weeks later by my next apostolic milestone update. But I also continue to work on my list of temples which will have an extended closure period at any point this year, and on my list of temples for which new leaders have been or may yet be called in 2022. Stay tuned for all of that as I can make it happen. In the meantime, my thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
