BREAKING NEWS: 45 New Area Seventies Sustained; 1 Deceased; No Releases Noted

Hello again, everyone! The Church has reported this morning through the Newsroom and the Church News that 45 new area seventies have been called. Additionally, aside from noting that 1 current area seventy has passed away after a battle with stage IV cancer, no releases were presented. If any current area seventies are sustained as General Authority Seventies, I assume their releases will be presented over the pulpit this weekend.

At a glance, it appears that a few former area seventies who have recently completed or will soon complete assignments as mission presidents will begin serving as area seventies again. I have a few minor personal issues to handle relating to my health today, but aside from taking care of those, I hope to be able to have a more complete analysis on the newly-sustained area seventies later today.

One other note: last April, it was noted that Elder Christofferson presented the list of changes and that President Nelson then called for a sustaining vote. The news release this year mentioned nothing about who presented those changes. Further analysis from me will be provided later today. In the meantime, my thanks once again to you all.

  1. The Church News has published the following additional reports:

The Nuku’alofa Tonga Temple was one of the temples which had new leaders called, but they had not yet had biographies featured in the Church News. The Church now has 3 temples anticipated to be completed in late 2022 which could all have their first presidents announced sooner rather than later. An additional 8 new temples could have their first presidents announced before the end of this year if all goes well.

The current leaders of the Columbus Ohio, Hamilton New Zealand, Mesa Arizona, and Tokyo Japan Temples would likely have had new leaders announced if the tenure of the current leaders hadn’t been interrupted by the renovations for each of those temples. And although the Detroit Michigan Temple’s current leaders have reached the 3-year mark this year, that temple did not have new leaders named, so those leaders have likely been asked to serve one more year.

The next 3 reports largely speak for themselves:

    1. The Presidents of the Suva Fiji and Port-au-Prince Haiti Temples will also serve for more than 3 years.

    2. That is a fair and accurate point, Scott. I hadn't picked up on that. I'm guessing the effects of the pandemic on the regular operation of both temples led to the decision to keep the current leadership for another year. Thanks for that timely observation. I always appreciate hearing from you.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
