BREAKING NEWS: Latest Updates from the Presidency of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square

Hello again, everyone! I mentioned previously that, since opening arrangements were announced on Monday for the Richmond Virginia and Columbus Ohio Temples, the Church might subsequently make another announcement this week relating to opening arrangements for the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple. While we didn't get that announcement, the presidency of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has redefined its' mission. Let's get right into the relevant details:

In a recent meeting with Church President Russell M. Nelson, the prophet shared his vision for the Choir, as cited in the news release today: "The Church will continue to grow. It will fill the world. It will continue to bless more and more nations, tongues, and people. The Lord is hastening his work in the promised global gathering of Israel. You can be sure that the Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra, and Bells at Temple Square will be a pivotal part of that era.”

With the goal to expand the reach of the Choir worldwide, the Choir presidency has revised the Choir's mission statement and outlined three new initiatives to extend the Choir's global reach: First, the Choir will create Spanish and Portuguese editions of the weekly "Music and the Spoken Word" broadcast, with customized visuals and graphics relating to the areas where the international broadcasts will be shown, and native speakers in both languages providing the weekly "Spoken Word" message. Editions in other languages will be created at a later date.

The Choir will utilize travel more frequently with shorter tours requiring less travel per trip, but will provide the opportunity to perform in more locations worldwide. The first of those "targeted tours" will occur between June 13 and 19 next year, where the Choir will do multiple performances in Mexico City Mexico. And thirdly, to represent more regions globally, qualified Church members in Latin America, West Africa, the Pacific, and the Philippines will have the opportunity to audition to sing with the Choir during the April 2023 General Conference.

The Choir will evaluate after that conference whether that should be a one-time thing, something done more frequently, or something that will be done in every General Conference going forward. The Choir presidency will continually seek the counsel of Church leaders and the inspiration of heaven to ascertain additional ways to expand the reach of the Choir going forward. And thus we see that the concept of a Choir presidency has been inspired by prophetic direction.

I was grateful to learn about this development and will be sure to pass along any others to you all as I become aware thereof, whether they are related to the Church in general or temples in particular. In the meantime, that does it for now. Thank you for the privilege of your time. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. 1. Hello again, everyone! One thing I didn't mention but likely should have in my post above is that I have been dealing with a minor illness in the form of a double-infection and a significant increase in fatigue and headaches, which has included more excruciating migraine headahces. As a result, I have been more wiped out all the time, which explains the sporadic nature of my comments here lately. I am working with my doctors to resolve these issues and I'm sure I will be back to normal in time. But in the interim, I may have to let most reports shared in the comments speak for themselves, without additional analysis or context. Hopefully in the next week or two as I continue to work with my physicians, I will be back to normal. I do not expect any interference in my reports on breaking news, but those reports may be slightly more delayed than they have been usually while I give myself time to get past whatever this is. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    3. I am pleased to report updates tonight on the Lima Peru Los Olivos, Helena Montana, Moses Lake Washington, Puebla Mexico, and Manti Utah Temples:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/helena-montana-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/puebla-mexico-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/manti-utah-temple/

Also, based on some research, as we know, the closure of the Kona Hawaii Temple for its' renovation was announced to occur in October of next year. Based on what I know about the parameters whereby the Provo Utah and Stockholm Sweden Temples will close, the information I found tonight appears to point to the idea that both of them could close in either October as well, or in the month following that. Just some food for thought.

I also believe we may be in for some unexpected shifts in the temple construction queue yet again in the coming week, though updates next week may indicate something different. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

  4. Hello again, everyone! Given the fact that it is now almost 8:00 PM Sunday in Qutio Ecuador and 10:00 PM in Belem Brazil, the three dedicatory sessions for both temples have likely wrapped up.

There are now 175 temples operating worldwide, which means that the Church has 125 remaining in order to have 300 operating by the 200th anniversary of the reestablishment of the Church (Saturday April 6, 2030). Since 7.38 years remain between today and that date, as long as the Church dedicates roughly 16.96 temples per year, the Church will reach that goal.

There are already 2 temple dedications set for next year, and an additional minimum of 18 others could be dedicated by the end of next year, if all goes well. And similar numbers of temple dedications are anticipated in 2024 and 2025, so the Church will likely keep that momentum going. I will be sure to post here when official reports are available on today's temple dedications.

    1. In the meantime, let's turn our attention to new updates from today. The Newsroom has provided an update on a joint project in Memphis carried out by the NAACP and the Church:

And 5 new reports from the Church News speak for themselves:

    2. And apparently, while I was putting that previous comment together, the Church News did publish a report on the Belem Brazil Temple dedication, the first of the two to occur today:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/temples/2022/11/20/23469747/belem-brazil-temple-dedication-elder-renlund-rivers-pororoca

As some of you might recall, I previously made a comment on another thread here relating to the fact that we had several apostles who were multilingual. Apparently, according to the text under the title of the article I shared above, it was noted that the three sessions for the temple dedication in Belem were all conducted entirely in Portuguese. So apparently, in addition to Swedish and Finnish, Elder Renlund somehow knows enough Portuguese to oversee the three dedicatory sessions of a temple in that language. You learn something new every day. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
