BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Site Location and Initial Details Released for the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple

Note: This post was originally published just after 2:00 PM, with further analysis included throughout the afternoon.

Hello again, everyone! Following a one-week hiatus in which no new temple updates were reported, the First Presidency has released information about the site location and initial details for the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple. As noted above, I will update this report as time and circumstances allow today. I also continue to monitor all other temple updates and Church news reports and will be sure to bring word thereof to you here ASAP.

Note: As I mentioned above, an initial version of this post was published at around 2; with subsequent analysis shared throughout the afternoon and evening as time allowed.

I am pleased to now be able to share a more detailed analysis of today's development. The Church noted today that the 87,000-square-foot three-story edifice will rise southwest of Hickman Avenue between North Grand Canyon Drive and Tee Pee Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada. With this being the second temple for the Nevadan capital city, the temple named for Lone Mountain is set to be 6,650 square feet larger than its' original counterpart.

The larger size of the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple and the fact that the Las Vegas Nevada Temple has not closed for renovation since it was originally dedicated in 1989, which was 3 decades ago. And, of course, as with any other temple announcement, today's announcement will impact the order and timing whereby temples with confirmed locations might subsequently see groundbreakings occur. I will have my revised thoughts on the timing of future temple events ASAP.

In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Please subscribe if you liked what you read here and would like to be informed of newly-added posts and comments. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. One correction, this isn't in the Nevadan capital city.

    1. Thanks for helping to keep my reports here accurate,, Scott. You are correct. Carson City is the capital of Nevada. I think the reason for the error was speaking about metropolitan area instead of capital cities. It will be the second temple in the Last Vegad area. Thanks again.

    2. Beat me to it. Yes, Carson City, which is an independent city, not in any county, BTW, is the capital of Nevada. A second temple for the Vegas valley was long overdue; but it was a matter of seeing where the inevitable growth would go. Makes sense to put it on the west side near the 215 loop, somewhere near Summerlin. Otherwise I'd have guessed off the Blue Star highway (NV 160, leads out to Pahrump), but perhaps that's forecasted for when a THIRD temple in the Vegas area is needed.

A relatively simple method for possible locations is to look at Church-owned properties adjacent to current stake centers; or meetinghouses/stake centers with included athletic fields (like a softball diamond), they're getting fewer and fewer. This is likely the case where the projected temple district is fairly modest (less than 12 or so stakes); land for a parking lot is expensive. A stake center typically has enough to accommodate busy Saturdays and/or weekday evenings, and since temples are typically closed on Sundays, still serve the adjoined stake building.

    1. And in a surprising development late tonight, the Church Temples site noted further additiona updates on the completion timing and order for several templesunder construction that are aniticipated to be dedicated this year:

      https://docs.google.com/document/d/1L7HBLNZZTnlI4Dk8fpr3HZCf-wqkjUBcCCYqdxP7HRk/edit?usp=sharing

If you access that document, under the "File" tab, by selecting "Verstin history", you may or may not be able to see what has been ajdusted:. But in summary, a new update on the Bentonville Arkansas Temple now shows that maor construction has been completd and that the interior is being finalized:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/bentonville-arkansas-temple/

So regardless of what other temple anouncements may be made on Monday, it seems proable that the Church may be able to at least announce opening arrangements for the Bentonville Temple. It isalso possible that information about the BangkokThailand Temple's opening arrangements could be shared then as well. If that is the maor anouncement, then Bentonville couldbe dedicated in April or May, with Bangkok following in May or June.

I can also report slight changes to the status of the Bangkok Thailad and Brasilia Brazil Temples:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/bangkok-thailand-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/brasilia-brazil-temple/

And, in view of the updates tonight the next two temples likely to be completed next are now the Feather River California, Moses Lake Washigton, Lima Peru Los Olivos, McAllen Texas, Okinawa Japan and Helena Montana. With the exception of the Feather River California Temple (which is estimated to be completed in early 2023), each of the other 5 temoles are set to be competed in early-to-mid 2023.

But, as we've seen, once the Church moves teples from the queue of those under construction to the queue of ttemples with dedications scheduled, it appears that the estimates are moving up for other temples immediately following them in the queue That opens up the prospect that temples further down (such as Layton Utah and Urdaneta Philippines) which are currently estimated to be compelted in mid-to-late 2023 may shift to mid-2023. And if those shifts keep occurring as more temples rise to the top of the queue, then the idea that 20-30 temples are likely to be dedicated this year isn't so far-fetched after all.

But how might that work? The way I see it, since the Bangkok Thailand, Feather River Califora, and Lima Peru Los Olivos Temples are larger by comparison to Bentonville Arkansas, Brasilia Brazil, Okinawa Japan, and Helena Montana Temples, then the dedication arrangements for the alrger temples could be more spread out, while smaller temples will fill in the gaps in the queue./

I still don't know how long it might take me to bounce bak from my current minor illnesses. Depending on what that process entailes. I may or may not have the opportunity to share more detailed analysis on the likely timing for those events. But at this point, I could see an April-May dedication for Bentonville and Brasilia, June/August/September dedication for Bangkok, Feather Riiver, and Los Olivos, and Mcallen, Okinawa, and ad Helena filling in any gaps in the schedule.

In the meantime, I urge all of you, my readers, to bukle up and keep an eye out, beause I have a feeling that the first half of ext year will be even busier than I may have previously believed or indicated. Thanks again, everyone!

Based on information of which I became aware late last night, there will also likely be several new temple construction updates, which will follow ASAP. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

      Delete
    2. We now turn to temple updates. As mentioned recently, major construction has wrapped up on the Bentonville Arkansas Temple, and the status of that temple also indicates that construction signage has been removed for that temple. I don't see any reason not to assume that the announement of opening arrangements for that temple could be made tomorrow. If that happens, that temple's dedication seems likely to be set for April or May.

I want to additionally note that four other temples in the queue (Bangkok Thailand, Feather River California, Brasilia Brazil and Moses Lake Washington) have the following status: "Construction nearing completion; finalizing the landscaping and interior" for four temples: Bangkok Thailand, Feather River California, Brasilia Brazil, and Moses Lake Washington.

It seems more likely than not that at least two of those four will be fully completed before the end of the year. How many of them might have opening arrangements announced before the end of the year may be a different question. But I anticipate dedications for those four temples could occur anytime between April at earliest and June at the latest.

Additional updates have been noted on the Lima Peru Los Olivos, Okinawa Japan, and Helena Montana Temples:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/lima-peru-los-olivos-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/okinawa-japan-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/helena-montana-temple/

And on the Taylorsville Utah Temple, following the completion of hardscaping, landscaping is underway:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/taylorsville-utah-temple/

Status updates were also noted on the Red Cliffs Utah and Neiafu Tonga Temples:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/red-cliffs-utah-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/neiafu-tonga-temple/

My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
