Hello again, everyone! Since today is not a state or federal holiday, the Church has resumed major temple announcements on Monday. Today, we have confirmation on the opening arrangements for the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple. Let's get right into the details: A media day will occur on Monday, November 6, 2023. VIP tours will follow between Tuesday, November 7-Thursday, November 9, and the public open house will be held from Friday, November 10-Saturday, December 9, 2023.
The temple will be dedicated on Sunday, January 14, in two sessions (at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM PET) by Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Interestingly enough, I mentioned over the weekend that I was recalculating my estimates for anticipated temple events, and I had just projected yesterday that the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple would be dedicated on either January 14, 21, or 28. Now that this temple has had a dedication scheduled, the next one up will be the Red Cliffs Utah Temple.
It is possible that the Church could opt to make another temple announcement tomorrow at 2:00 PM (groundbreaking, exterior rendering, and/or site confirmation). Whatever might occur in that regard, I'll do my level best to cover it here. I continue to monitor all other Church News and Newsroom reports and other temple construction progress updates and will be sure to bring word of those to you all as I receive it.
In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below.
Please subscribe if you liked what you read here and would like to be informed of newly-added posts and comments. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.
The Church News has also covered today's major update. My thanks once again to you all.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if the church is going to start posting 2 news temple related per week… I guess we’ll find out tomorrow. I look forward to know the Huehuetenango render or news about the Retalhuleu temple… I think I’ll have to wait at least a year tho. Right now, we’re still celebrating the creation of a new stake here in Mazatenango. It’ll belong to the Retalhuleu temple once it is done :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to comment. May I ask to whom I might offer thanks for your feedback? It seems possible the Church could announce temple-related updates twice a week. Would that make Tuesday a likely day for the second announcement? Possibly. But for a while there, Thursdays and Fridays were the standard days on which major announcements of any kind were made. I think we have more to which we can look forward in the future.
DeleteIf the Church does make another announcement tomorrow or later this week, I think it is likely to be either a site confirmation, exterior rendering and/or groundbreaking announcement(s). Right now, we have five US temples that could have groundbreakings set shortly if all goes well. There are also 7 other temples for which sites have been announced and renderings released, and any of them could have a groundbreaking announced soon as well. We've also seen exterior renderings released with groundbreaking announcements, so that's another possibility. And in rare cases, the Church has been able to announce a site, release a rendering, and set a groundbreaking for one or more temples in a single announcement.
While I would welcome a second temple construction announcement this week, I could also see the Church going back to Monday (for at least the foreseeable future) for major temple announcements, in which case, this might be the only announcement we get this week. If another announcement is made, I will be sure to cover that when it happens. In the meantime, again, to whom might I offer thanks for this comment? Thanks for your input either way.
Hi! I don't know why I couldn't comment with my google account. I like watching your updates! I don't have a lot of thoughts to provide, that's why I barely write a comment haha. Keep the good work brother. I look forward for news from the month of august, we're going to see inside pictures of each temple each week: Moses Lake, Brasília, Feather River, McAllen and Bangkok! I wonder if we're going to see any kind of news of site confirmation / exterior rendering / groundbreaking announcement / Dedication announcement during those weeks.
DeleteJuly is the typical recess month for General Authorities, so we may or may not get weekly updates in July. As far as whether major announcements could still be made on weeks where open houses begin, that's happened several times this year. Looks like there may be a change to the dates for the Brasilia Brazil open house, but I'm waiting for more information on that. I think we are likely to see dedications announced for the Red Cliffs Utah and Puebla Mexico Temples in the next couple of weeks, but the annual recess month could change that. I will also be intrigued to see what happens. Thanks, A. J. Great to hear from you again.
DeleteA day or two ago on the threads of the previous post, I shared a Newsroom report about the opening of an International African-American Museum. The Church News has now shared coverage on that as well. And those who performed with the Tabernacle Choir in Mexico and will be the featured guests in the Choir's Pioneer Day Concert were featured tonight in a Church News video. My thanks once again to you all.
ReplyDeleteRight around midnight when June 26 became June 27, the Church News published a new article featuring recent teachings from Acting President M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother, Church Patriarch and Assistant President of the Church Hyrum Smith, at the Carthage Jail. Today (June 27) marks 179 years since that pivotal event. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Tuesday, while I don't know if any major temple construction news will be announced at 2:00 PM this afternoon, I will be sure to cover anything that is. In the meantime, FamilySearch has released new digitization tools that have been nicknamed "Memory Lane". Additionally, today is also the birthday of Sister J. Anette Dennis, the First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency. The Church News shared an article with 9 quotes from her ministry during the last year. My thanks once again to you all..
DeleteAnd coinciding with the 179th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother, Patriarch to the Church and Assistant President of the Church Hyrum Smith, the final volume of the years-long massive Joseph Smith Papers Project has been published. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThe Church News has also covered the release of the final volume in the Joseph Smith Papers Project. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThe latest edition of the Church News podcast has been published. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThe Church News has shared another article highlighting the final volume of the Joseph Smith Papers project. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Wednesday, the Church News has shared information about Church-sponsored medical projects in 7 nations. And the Church News has also shared a report on the groundbreaking for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAnd the Newsroom has reported that, at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin Germany, Latter-day Saint young single adults constituted the largest group of volunteers for the games. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThere are two new reports from the Church News. The first shares how the Church and its' members are helping mothers and their babies in 4 nations. The second shows how the Church and the CARE organization are supporting women through the Protein for People project. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteI have just wrapped up a check for temple construction updates. While the status of the Nairobi Kenya Temple has not changed, it has shifted positions and estimates in the queue. It used to be between the Burley Idaho and Harare Zimbabwe Temples, with a general completion estimate of late 2024-early 2025. It has now been moved down to be between the Elko Nevada and Phnom Pehn Cambodia Temples, with a new completion estimate of early-to-mid 2025. As a result, the temple in Nairobi has replaced the temple in Zimbabwe to now be the last dedicated temple originally announced by President Monson. Additionally, a status update has been noted for the Ephraim Utah Temple. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAlso, the Church's official page for the Kona Hawaii Temple now indicates that the temple will close on September 30 of this year until the same date in 2025. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAn update on the Knoxville Tennesee Temple indicates that the Farragut Municipal Planning Commission unanimously approved the plans for that temple.
DeleteBased on what I know about temple approvals, I'd say now that the Teton River Idaho, and Fort Worth Texas Temples are the only ones ahead of Knoxville now in terms of likely groundbreaking order. So I've moved Knoxville ahead of both Cody Wyoming and Modesto California. I think that the second half of this year will be full of temple groundbreakings. What is less certain is when all such announcements are coming down the pike.
I say that because tomorrow marks the last day in June, and I am unsure how many major teple announceents might be made in the month that typically sees the General Authorities and General Officers take time off. It's not out of the question that any temple news could be announced in July, but it remains to be seen whether any such announcements will be made. But stay tuned here, as I will be sure to cover those updates as I become aware thereof. For now, my thanks once again to you all.
I have some updates from the Church News to pass along. Sorry about my delay in doing so. It's been a bit of a crazy day. The Church has made life-changing donations in 6 nations around the world. In a continuance of the "Inside Church Headquarters" series, Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson posted a video to share what her days are like. 21 years after she became paralyzed, a woman in Norway got baptized.Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, with the assistance of a Church News video, provided an update on his health following his recent leave of absence. He said that he probably should have died, but that the prayers of the people helped him rally and pull through. The ordeal he experienced has taken a physical toll on him (his hair is whiter and his voice has a bit of a crackling rasp to it), but it was wonderful to see his update. And the Church News shared the same report of young adult Latter-day Saints volunteering during the Special Olympic World Games that the Newsroom shared a day or two ago. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThe Church has established a new online page for prospective missionaries and their families and leaders. If there are any other Church News, Newsroom, or temple construction updates, I will pass those along as time and circumstances allow. For now, my thanks once again to you all.
DeleteA Latter-day Saint pilot was recently invovled in a statewide air-refueling flyover; members of a Colorado stake connect with each other and their community through the Church's< "Helping Hands" disaster initiative; President Nelson's landmark address Let God Prevail led a woman to convert to convert to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and she now serves in the mission field; and the latest edition of "This Week on Social" has been published.
DeleteThe apostles who had content featured in this latest installment include: Presidents Dallin H. Oaks and Henry B Eyring, the respective First and Second Counselors in the First Presidency; Acting President M. Russell Ballard (from whom 2 posts were featured), and Elders Jeffrey R. Holland, Dieter F. Uchtdorf, David A. Bednar, D. Todd Christofferson, Neil L. Andersen, Ronald A. Rasband, Gary E. Stevenson, Dale G. Renlund, Gerrit W. Gong, and Ulisses Soares, all of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The only current apostles without content featured in this week's edition are Church President Russell M. Nelson and Elder Quentin L. Cook.
The following General Officers of the Church also were featured in this edition: Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson and her Second Counselor, Sister Kristin M. Yee; Sisters Michelle D. Craig and Rebecca L. Craven, the respectively outgoing First and Second Counselors in the Young Women General Presidency; Primary General President Susan H. Porter and her Second Counselor, Sister Tracy Y. Browning (with Sisters Porter and Browning creating a joint post); Sunday School General President Mark L. Pace and his First Counselor, Brother Milton Camargo (the article incorrectly identifies him as the Second Counselor); and Young Men General President Steven J. Lund, and his respective First and Second Counselors, Brothers Bradley R. (Brad) Wilcox and Michael T. Nelson.
I was more than slightly surprised that this edition was so supersized, with content from 13 of the 15 apostles and 11 of the 15 General Officers of the Church. But I am grateful to have been able to report these updates, especially this last one, which demonstrates yet again that the Church is embracing the positive aspects of modern technology. This weekly report on social media posts allows those featured to share messages with people anywhere in the world, and I'm also grateful for that.
I don't know if there will be any other Church News, Newsroom, or temple construction updates during the remainder of this day, but if any do cross my radar at any point tonight, I will be sure to pass those along to you all here as time and circumstances allow. For now, my thanks once again to you all.
In a new report from the Newsroom, Latter-day Saint volunteers have recently helped with clean-up efforts in Ecuador following recent flooding activities.
DeleteI rhink I may have forgotten to pass along an update from the Church of Jesus Christ Temples site. When the Brasilia Brazil Temple dedication was originally announced, that announcement indicated that an open house would take place between the Saturdays of August 5-26. At some point in the last week or two, the Church Temples site changed those dates to now be between Saturday August 12 and Saturday September 2. Insofar as I am aware, the Church has not officially announced a change in the originially-announced arrangements. I have sent an inquiry on this to the webmaster of the Church Temples site, and we'll see what he says in response. For now, my thanks once again to you all.
DeleteConstruction status updates have been provided for the Farmington New Mexico and Smithfield Utah Temples. Aside from that, I should mention that, with today being the last day in June, I have a new post scheduled to be published tonight at 11:45 PM. That post will review temple construction updates throughout the second quarter (and first half) of 2023.
DeleteIt is also worth noting that, once Monday rolls around again, the latest update on temple construction may be outdated. I am anticipating the announcement of the opening arrangements for the Red Cliffs Utah Temple and currently estimate that it could be dedicated on either January 28 or February 4 or 11 of next year. But the Church has dedicated two or more temples on the same day in the past, with several more recent examples, so I could be off in my projection that Red Cliffs might be dedicated on January 28 or February 4 or 11. I will be interested to see how the timing works out on that and other temples. For now, my thanks once again to you all.
