BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Groundbreaking Ceremonies Set for Modesto California and Fort Worth Texas Temples

Hello again, everyone! Although I previously stated that I didn't foresee the Church making any major temple construction announcements in the month of July, the First Presidency proved me wrong again. Just a few minutes ago, groundbreaking arrangements were announced for the Modesto California and Fort Worth Texas temples. Let's get right into the details:

The groundbreaking for the Modesto California Temple will occur on Saturday, October 7 (the week after General Conference), with Elder Gary B. Sabin, the current Second Counselor in the North America West Area presidency (who will serve as First Counselor effective August 1), presiding. Ground will be broken for the Fort Worth Texas Temple on Saturday, October 28, with Elder Jose L. Alonso, First Counselor in the North America Southwest Area, presiding.

While I welcome the announcements of these upcoming groundbreakings, I was surprised they are spread out so far into the future. My hope is that the Church may be trying to get approvals for other temple groundbreakings that could occur between August 1 and these two October groundbreakings. I continue to monitor any and all temple construction updates, in addition to Church News and Newsroom reports and will be sure to pass those along to you all here as time and circumstances allow.

In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Please subscribe if you liked what you read here and would like to be informed of newly-added posts and comments. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. Hello again, everyone. I have updated my side-by-side comparison of temple groundbreakings this year vs. last year. The Fort Worth Texas Temple groundbreaking is the seventh scheduled thus far this year, though, as I said, I'm hopeful other groundbreakings could occur prior to the Modesto California Temple. The Church News has also covered this update. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. Sorry. Forgot to link to the document showing the side-by-side comparison I mentioned above. I apologize for the oversight. Today, the Church News has shared a few additional reports, including the next article in the "Pioneers in Our Families" series; Church members' experiences with testifying of Jesus Christ as invited by outgoing Young Women General President Bonnie H. Cordon in April; the guest artists for the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square's upcoming Pioneer Day concert(s) shared how the Choir brings hope in these turbulent times; and volunteers recently helped clear debris from recent storms in Nauvoo and Keokuk, Illinois. My thanks once again to you all.

    2. And I have an update on the Puebla Mexico Temple's status: I have found out that there is currently a delay in completing that temple due to a dispute between the construction crew and the state government about waste materials at the temple site. Until that disagreement is settled one way or the other, we are not likely to see that temple finalized. As a result, there is potentially a scenario where the Layton Utah, Salta Argentina, Coban Guatemala, Urdaneta Philippines, and Taylorsville Utah Temples could all be dedicated before things are settled in Puebla. I am monitoring this situation and will provide updates when I can as I learn more. In the meantime, I will be readjusting my estimates accordingly and will have those updates posted here when I can. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

  2. I was surprised when I saw temple news. Last year they took a 5 or 6 week break, but this time they only took 2 weeks. I wonder if they're going to keep with the temple news next monday

    1. I don't think there will be an announcement Monday of next week. That's because Utah will be observing the state Pioneer Day holiday, marking the 176th anniversary of when Brigham Young entered the Salt Lake Valley. Church offices and facilities are generally closed for that observance.

That being said, the Church would have the option to do an announcement on Tuesday of next week. They did a previous announcement on Tuesday (opening arrangements for the Orem Utah Temple), so I believe we'll see an announcement then.

It could either be opening arrangements for the Red Cliffs Utah Temple, additional temple groundbreakings, and/or sites announced, and/or exterior renderings released. Thanks, AJ, for taking time to ask about this.

  3. On this Tuesday evening, I am just barely posting my first comment here today. I'm currently battling a vicious infection, so, as was the case today, my first comments for the next few days may only come in the evening.

Among the latest updates from the Church News, Sister Tracy Y. Browning, Second Counselor in the Primary General Presidency, shared 10 Primary songs that teach about the gospel; a woman who has taught a Strengthening Marriage and Family course for 25 years shared how that assignment has blessed her life; Church member and community leader Gail Miller honored all pioneers at a devotional held at This Is The Place Heritage Park; and that same park's executive director was the featured guest in this week's edition of the Church News podcast.

Temple updates, if any, along with any other new Church News or Newsroom reports will be passed along here as my ongoing health challenges permit. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    1. Sorry. Yesterday, I forgot to share the link to the podcast in question. I apologize for the oversight. Thanks to the infection, I've not been at my best for about a week. Meanwhile, on this Wednesday, the Church News shares the latest article in the "Pioneers in Our Families" series. Additionally, with about 12 days remaining in their service, outgoing Young Women General President Bonne H. Cordon shared new resources to help youth take charge of technology, while her outgoing Second Counselor, Sister Rebecca L. (Becky) Craven spoke at the Provo MTC devotional, where she highlighted how persistent devotion to their covenants can strenghthen missionaries in their efforts. There are temple updates to pass along, which I will provide here as soon as I can, along with anything else from the Church News or Newsroom. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

  4. Hello again, everyone! We begin our daily summary of Church news on a sad note: Sister Patricia Terry Holland, wife of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, has passed away from causes incident to age and health. Another report from the Church News share Elder David A. Bednar's remarks at the BYU-Idaho graduation, where he was joined by several other former presidents of that institution. The graduation ceremony also seerved as a final goodbye to outgoing BYU-Idaho President Henry J. Eyring, who will be relocating to Utah.

The latest article in the "Pioneers in Our Families" series was also published, And the Church News pulled double-duty with another article in the Inside Church Headquarters series, with the latest article underscoring the importance of concils, which will also tie in to the "Come Follow Me" study for this week.

Additionally, a new report on the Puebla Mexico Temple indicates that exterior lighting has recently become operational on the temple grounds. I don't know what that means in terms of whether the government-enforced closure of the temple has been resolved, but I am working to ascertain that. I will be sure to share any other Church News, Newsroom, or temple construction updates as time and circumstances allow throughout this evening. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    3. The articles I mentioned in an earlier comment have been updated to indicate that funeral services for Sister Patricia T. Holland will take place at 11:00 AM a week from today in the Conferrence Center Theater, with her interment taking place in St. George. The funeral is available to the public through the Church website, KSL.com, KSL-TV and BYU-TV. and will also be live-streamed.

Additionally, a KSL special report tonight relating to the upcoming "Days of '47 KSL Parade" indicated that the parade's grand marshal this year will be Elder D. 6. On this Saturday, in addition to providing the next article in the Pioneers in Our Families" series, the Church News has created a repository page where you'll find all articles in that series in one convenient place. The Church News also provided an introduction to Brother Michael T. Nelson, the new Second Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency.

Church News staff writer Scott Taylor shares why Elder Holland "heaven wouldn't be heaven for [him] without [Sister Holland and their children]." A new Church News video shares photographs that capture the life and legacy of Sister Patricia T. Holland.

The text of the messagethat will be given by Brother Lloyd Newell in tomorrow's "Music and the Spoken Word" has also been published. The same development originally appearing in the Newsroom was also covered in The Church News. Finally, the Newsroom noted an update posted two weeks ago in the Newsroom indicates that the Spanish edition of "Music and the Spoken Word" will now premiere on July 30 of this year.

  7. On this Sabbath evening, we begin our overview of updates from the Newsroom and the Church News on a sad note: a senior sister missionary serving in Vanuatu with her husband died on Friday after a brutal head-on collison in traffic. Her husband and companion also sustained injuries, and is being treated at the same hospital in which his wife died. The Church News also reported on 9 new stake presidencies, a Latter-day Saint pioneer in quad tennis was recently inducted into the international hall of fame, and the latest "Week in Review" higlighted the top 9 developments reported by the Church News this week.

The latest article providing resources for this week's "Come Follow Me" study plan was published, as was the latest article in the "Pioneers in Our Families" series. If there are any other reports from the Newsroom or Church News today, I will pass those along as time and circumstances allow, in addition to also covering any new temple construction updates. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    1. On this Pioneer Day (Monday) in Utah, the Newsroom and the Church News have recapped the Days of '47 KSL parade that was held this morning. The Church News also shared the newest installment in the "Pioneers in Our Families" series, and updated the aforementioned repository for all articles in that series. And at the Days of '47 Sunrise Service held early this morning, Elder James W. McConkie III shared suggestions to help everyone remember who pioneers are and what they do.

For me, the summary of his addres brought to mind the lyrics of a song from the Children's Songbook, "To Be a Pioneer":

"You don’t have to push a handcart,
      "Leave your fam’ly dear,
"Or walk a thousand miles or more
      "To be a pioneer!

"You do need to have great courage,
      "Faith to conquer fear,
"And work with might for a cause that’s right
      "To be a pioneer!"

I think that in a very real sense, each of us has the opportunity to be pioneers in our own right as we work around and through and with the challenges of our day, especially those we personally individually face. The Lord inspired those in the past whom we revere today as pioneers, and He can and will do the same for us as we let Him prevail in our lives. Of that I have no doubt.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe there may be other Church News/Newsroom reports to share later today, in addition to some new temple construction updates. I am keeping my eyes open for those and will be sure to pass them along as soon as I can after I learn of them. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
