BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: President Nelson Announces 15 New Temples To Conclude the April 2024 General Conference

Hello again, everyone! During the final minutes of the April 2024 General Conference, President Nelson announced 15 new temples to be built in the following locations: Uturoa French Polynesia; Chihuahua, Mexico; Florianópolis Brazil; Rosario, Argentina; Edinburgh Scotland; Brisbane Australia South Area; Victoria British Columbia; Yuma Arizona;  Houston Texas South Area; Des Moines Iowa; Cincinnati Ohio; Honolulu Hawaii; West Jordan Utah; Lehi Utah; and Maracaibo Venezuela.

I had the following exact locations correct: Chihuahua Mexico; Florianopolis Brazil; Rosario Argentina; Edinburgh Scotland; Victoria British Columbia; Des Moines Iowa; Cincinattti Ohio; Honolulu Hawaii; West Jordan and Lehi Utah; and Maracaibo Venezuela. I had projected Bora Bora Tahiti, which is just an airplane ride away, so I'll count myself half-right on that. I was also half-right, as I was expecting an Arizona Temple, but not in Yuma. And I wasn't expecting a second Brisbane or Houston temple.

So 11 correct down to the exact location, 2 half-right, and 2 that I wasn't anticipating. I'm apparently getting better at my projected guesses. This brings the total number of temples to an even 350. I will have updated copies of my documents available in the comments section as I can get those updates made. I continue to monitor any and all Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples updates and will be sure to pass word of those along to you all as they cross my radar.  In the meantime, that does it for now.

All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

    1. I realized I had omitted that in an earlier draft of this post. It has been fixed to include Maracaibo now. To whom may I offer my thanks for this comment?

  2. On this Sabbath Day, with General Conference having concluded, we turn our attention to some Church News updates. Here is the text of the message given during this morning's Music & the Spoken Word. "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review" recapped the top 9 updates shared within the last week by the Church News. This year marks the 40th anniversary of when Presidents Nelson and Oaks were set apart as the newest apostles. President Oaks taught why temples and covenants matter. Several leaders taught how to find a higher joy. President Nelson announced 15 temples and discussed the importance of priesthood keys. A previous report from yesterday was updated today. The Presidency of the Seventy looks different now than it did before Elder Kearon's call to the apostleship, and addditional changes are coming. Church leaders taught about testimony building. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. Also, it took me long enough to do so, but I have updated two of my documents tracking the newest temples. The first shows temples announced each conference by President Nelson by geographical area of the Church. The second shows announced temples for which no official information has been confirmed yet. The total number of announced temples now rises from 94 to 109. With President Nelson having announced 168 of the 350 current temples, he has announced roughly 48% of all current temples. My thanks once again to you all.

    6. As far as temple updates are concerned, the Church did not make a major temple construction announcement today, so the 15 announced on Sunday and the announcements on Manti and Taylorsville Utah are all we may get this week. Aside from that, though the status and general completion estimates have not changed, the San Pedro Sula Honduras Temple has been moved ahead of the Mendoza Argentina Temple.

Based on my latest projections, the Tallahassee Florida Temple may be dedicated in October at the earliest, with the dedication of the Salvador Brazil Temple following in October/November, and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania likely to be dedicated in November as well. I've got a November/December window for San Pedro Sula, and a December/January window for the Mendoza Argentina Temple. I'm hoping I'm wrong, and that each of these dedications might happen sooner that I'm currently projecting, but unless such announcements pick up, this seems more likely for the time being. My thanks once again to you all.

Runai, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, spoke to Provo MTC missionaries. My thanks once again to you all.

    10. A new update on the Deseret Peak Utah Temple indicates that furniture deliveries are underway. Additionally, the Church has updated its' page on the Orlando Florida Temple to show that its' renovation closure will officially begin on July 1. We have a number of other temples I am watching for potential news on groundbreakings, site announcements, and/or exterior renderings. My thanks once again to you all.

    11. On this Thursday, the Church News has shared a few new reports. The Tabernacle Choir announced today that the pilot program that has brought international singers to Salt Lake to perform with the Choir in General Conference will now be permanent. More detailed biographies are now available for the incoming Sunday School General Presidency. And in a new video posted just moments ago, the Angel Moroni is placed back atop the Salt Lake Temple. I am assuming that the new area leadership assignments may be released either later today, tomorrow, or on Monday at the latest. My thanks once again to you all.

    14. On this Friday, the Church News has reported counsel from Sister Tracy Y. Browning, Second Counselor in the Primary General Presidency, to BYU-Idaho graduates. And although the General Conference talks transcripts have been available since late Tuesday night, the Church News only shared its' report on that today. And the latest edition of "This Week on Social" was published as well.

The newest installment in that ongoing series featured posts from the following general Church leaders: Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman (via Young Women Worldwide) and her Second Counselor, Sister Andrea Munoz Spannaus; the Young Men General Presidency (President Steven J. Lund and his respective First and Second Counselors, Brothers Bradley R. (Brad) Wilcox and Michael T. Nelson, who did a joint post on Young Men Worldwide); and Sister Amy A. 15. Also, something I meant to mention yesterday but failed to do so: a new update on the San Pedro Sula Honduras Temple now indicates that major construction is completed, that finishing touches are underway, and that the first temple leaders have been called. San Pedro Sula is now the fourth currently-completed temple awaiting the announcement of opening arrangements. My thanks once again to you all.

    2. On this Monday, the media tours kicked off the open house for the Layton Utah Temple, for which public tours start on Friday. I don't know if that is the big temple news for the day, but we'll find out in about an hour. I am en route to the eye doctor, so if there is another announcement at 2, my coverage thereof will be delayed but timestapped during the 2:00 PM MDT hour. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
