BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Exterior Rendering Released and Groundbreaking Set for the Cagayan de Oro Philippines Temple; Rendering Released for the Joao Pessoa Brazil Temple

Hello again, everyone! As July continues, I wasn't sure we'd get another major temple construction announcement, but I had hopes that we would. And those hopes were justified. Today, the First Presidency released a rendering and set a groundbreaking for the Cagayan de Oro Philippines Temple and released a rendering for the Joao Pessoa Brazil Temple. The two renderings speak for themselves, and I will allow others more qualified than I am to comment on the renderings released today.

So let's get right into the details of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cagayan de Oro Philippines Temple: The groundbreaking will be held on August 31, 2024, with Elder Elder Carlos G. Revillo Jr. presiding. Elder Revillo is the current Second Counselor in that area presidency, but by the time the groundbreaking is held, he will have been the new Area President for about a month. The Cagayan de Oro Philippines Temple was originally announced in April 2018, with the site location confirmed on December 18, 2023.

With this groundbreaking set, the number of temple groundbreakings set so far for 2024 now rises to a total of 10, well ahead of the 8 we saw last year. And with 4 more months left in the year, and with President Nelson encouraging the Special Projects Division to get moving on the queue of announced temples, I have no doubt we will continue to get other groundbreaking announcements this year. Just as a general note: most of the temples that have had groundbreakings recently are in the queue for completion sometime in 2027, which means many of those with a groundbreaking scheduled might be dedicated in 2028.

Having noted these things, I continue to monitor any and all Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples updates and will be sure to pass word of those along to you all as they cross my radar. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

    2. On this Tuesday, the Church News has shared a few new reports: the biographies of 24 stake presidencies (2 for new stakes, with 22 other stake presidencies reorganized). Some tips have been provided for how Relief Society sisters can counsel together in their Sunday meetings. The Church News podcast shared teachings from Church leaders during the recent Mission Leadership Seminar. Children meeting the outlined requirements are invited to audition for a spot in a children's choir that will perform during the Saturday Afternoon Session of the October 2024 General Conference. This joins a similar call for missionaries to audition for a choir that will perform at the Saturday Evening Session of the same General Conference. The Newsroom shares one additional report which speaks for itself. Temple updates, if any, will follow shortly. My thanks once again to you all.

    5. A major update has been noted in the queue of temples anticipated to be completed in 2025. The Ephraim Utah Temple, which formerly was anticipated to be completed in late 2025-early 2026 (between the Smithfield Utah and Bacolod Philippines Temples). It is now anticipated to be completed in mid-to-late 2025, between the Lindon Utah Temple (with the same general completion estimate) and the Davao Philippines Temple (with an estimate of late 2025). An update has been noted also on the statuses of the Smithfield Utah and Teton River Idaho Temples. My thanks once again to you all.

    8. On this Friday, the Newsroom has shared one new report about an earthquake on Japan's Noto Peninsula. I know the Church sometimes has announced a temple for areas recently stricken by natural disasters. Could that be the case for Nanao City, Ishikawa, Japan? Something to think about for sure, especially since the area stricken has other shrines and temples.

From the Church News, Sister Sarah Jane Weaver, the new editor of the Deseret News, reminisces about her former boss, Dell Van Orden, in view of his recent passing. As reported by the Newsroom yesterday, Elder Gary E. Stevenson recently presented family histories to 12 governors within the United States. Elder Alexander Dushku recently shared his experiences relating to California's Proposition 8 at the 2024 Notre Dame Religious Liberty Summit. And the latest edition of "This Week on Social" featured content from the following general Church leaders:

Acting President Jeffrey R. Holland and Elders Dieter F. Uchtdorf (from whom two posts were shared), David A. Bednar, Quentin L. Cook, and D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson (from whom two posts were shared); Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman (via Young Women Worldwide); Primary General President Susan H. Porter and her First Counselor, Sister Amy A. Wright; and Brother Michael T. Nelson, Second Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency (via Young Men Worldwide).

My thanks once again to you all.

    11. My wife and I caught a minor illness somehow. My wife has had the worst of it, so I took a hiatus yesterday to help us both recover. I am pleased to be able to now catch up on the reports I have not yet passed along here. Let's get right into those. The Church News introduced Elder Sergio R. Vargas yesterday. Having done so, all new GA Seventies have now been featured in the Church News. So all that remains is for the new Sunday School General Presidency members to be featured.

The Church News also provided a by-the-numbers look at humanitarian aid that the Church extended in 2023. The Church News additionally shared the text of a message originally delivered by Lloyd Newell that was given again by Derrick Porter during today's "Music & the Spoken Word" broadcast.

The Church recently helped to fix damaged shrines and temples in Japan following the recent earthquakes there. And another Olympian who will compete this year on Team USA shared a message of faith after unexpectedly making the team.

Having caught up on the coverage I missed yesterday, here are the reports from today so far: Scott Taylor, who covers the major temple news of the Church for the Church News, has posted a reminder of the 50 temples that are between groundbreaking and dedication, in addition to those scheduled for groundbreaking and those announced in the planning and design.

21 stake presidencies have been reorganized around the world. The latest edition of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review" shares the top 9 developments covered by the Church News this week.

That wraps up the updates for now. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
