BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Updates Provided on Lindon Utah, Heber Valley Utah, and Lehi Utah Temples

Hello again, everyone! I have updates to provide for the Lindon Utah, Heber Valley Utah, and Lehi Utah Temples. Let's start with the last one mentioned: Today, the First Presidency officially confirmed that preliminary site work will begin shortly for the Lehi Utah Temple. Because of its larger size, I'd estimate the groundbreaking to be about a year or so out, with the temple dedication following roughly 3 or 4 years after that. I am happy for this announcement personally, as I will be roughly 5-10 minutes away from that temple when it is built.

Turning focus now to the Heber Valley Utah Temple, I follow a Facebook group about that temple, and according to a post on that page from late last week, the judge's go-ahead meant that, irrespective of any appeal or lawsuit by the citizen's group, there was nothing legally that could halt the construction from commencing. The post in question mentioned that full-scale construction is anticipated to begin on that temple at some point this week.

Now, regarding the Lindon Utah Temple, in the threads of the Church Growth Blog, it was mentioned that the dedication of that temple was likely "in the spring" of next year.  So it will probably be another month or two before those arrangements are announced, and the dedication may only occur in March or April of next year. I have adjusted my dedication window estimate accordingly and am evaluating how that might change my estimates for the dedications of other temples. I will be providing my latest updates on that in my end-of-third-quarter temple construction progress review.

In the meantime, I invite you all to stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as all such feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. If you liked what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added posts and comments, please subscribe to receive the applicable updates. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. The Newsroom and the Church News have reported the tragic death of a senior missionary as a result of a lawn mowing accident. The leaders of the Mexico Mexico City West Mission have released their own statement on the shooting in which President Wallis was injured. Red Cross leaders recently toured Welfare Sqaure. And the Church News has posted reports on the groundbreakings for the Brazzaville Republic of the Congo and Vancouver Washington Temples. And following recent Church donations in Ghana to a school, a clinic and an immigration office, a pastor of another faith has prayed in gratitude for the continued success and prosperity of the Church in Ghana. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. Additionally, the Church announced today that Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will rededicate the Hill Cumorah Historic Site on Sunday, September 21 of this year, which will coincide with the 202th anniversary of when the young prophet Joseph Smith was first introduced to the Golden Plates by the angel Moroni, and the 198th anniversary of when the golden plates were formally entrusted to him. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. Hey, Eric! Thanks for sharing that, as it verifies what I shared in my post above about the Heber Valley Utah Temple. All I had was the Facebook group post I linked to in my report. But the source you provided reinforces that quite well. I look forward to seeing this temple begin construction and progress. And I have no doubt that the Utah Supreme Court will either rule in the Church's favor again or else decline to hear the lawsuit, which should put any further objections to rest, unless the citizen's group is dumb enough to appeal to the US Supreme Court. Thanks again, Eric, for sharing that resource. I always appreciate hearing from you.

    5. There has been a late-night overhaul of the temple construction queue. This document reflects the latest updates, including that the Heber Valley Utah Temple is now under construction, which was also confirmed in a late update from the Church News. The temple has been assigned a general completion estimate of late 2028. Most of the other temples that had altered estimates have an altered status to go with it. I will let those updates speak for themselves, as they will be prominently featured in my end-of-third-quarter 2024 temple construction review. My thanks once again to you all.

    9. On this Thursday, the Church News has shared three new reports, while the Newsroom has shared two others, the latter of which constitutes the latest updates on the Salt Lake Temmple renovation. The Church's repository page for temple news has been updated to include yesterday's open house beginning for the Elko Nevada Temple, and the aforementioned latest renovation updates for the Salt Lake Temple.

Further, while I am still checking for other updates, the Church Temples site has clarified the status of the Yorba Linda California Temple for which major construction has not yet fully wrapped up. That temple is now the second of four anticipated to be completed in mid-to-late 2025 (the other three being the Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple, just ahead of Yorba Linda, and the Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala and Davao Philippines Temples, just behind Yorba Linda. All four temples are anticipated to have major construction wrapped up within the next few months, if not slightly sooner for some and slightly longer for others. These updates are reflected in my latest document tracking those changes, and the resulting estimate changes will be reflected in my end-of-third-quarter temple construction progress review, which will be posted here late on the night when September 30 becomes October 1. My thanks once again to you all.

    11. Yesterday was Tuesday. Today is Wednesday. Sorry about that mix-up on my part. Aside from what I've already reported, the Church of Jesus Christ Temples site has shared updates on the Wichita Kansas, Barcelona Spain, and Fairview Texas Temples. With reference particularly to Barcelona, the temple site has been cleared, as per a recent report. So that temple now catapults up to nearly the top of the "Groundbreaking Announcement Pending" section of my temple construction progress report, with ten temples now in that section. My thanks once again to you all.

    18. There have been a few more shifts in the temple construction queue. This document shows where those estimates stood as of September 1, and this one shares where those estimates stand today. Just a few changes. For those who'd rather not open the documents and compare them yourselves, here's what those changes are:

The completion estimate for the Fort Worth Texas Temple has shifted up from mid-2026 to early to mid-2026, while the estimate for the Knoxville Tennessee Temple has shifted up from late 2026 to mid-to-late 2026. These adjustments leave the Wichita Kansas and Cody Wyoming Temples as the only ones estimated to be completed in mid-2026 currently, and the Queretaro Mexico Temple as the only one estimated to be completed in late 2026 currently. My thanks once again to you all.

Presidents Dallin H. Oaks and Henry B. Eyring, the respective First and Second Counselors to President Nelson; Acting President Jeffrey R. 26. On this Sabbath Day, the Church News has shared a few new reports: 9 reorganized stake presidencies, a timeline of President Nelson's life and ministry, finding Christ in worldly history, a recap of the top ten developments reported by the Church News within the last week in the latest edition of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review", some thoughts from Church leaders about D&C 98-101 (the "Come Follow Me" passages for this week), and how the Farmington New Mexico Temple is bringing peace to a Navajo woman. The Newsroom published one additional report relating to President Nelson's upcoming 101st birthday (which will occur on Tuesday).

I will have a post in honor of President Nelson published here on Tuesday, along with a corresponding YouTube video. Prior to that, tomorrow is Elder Quentin L.Cook's 85th birthday, so a new post for that is coming in just a few hours (at midnight) with a corresponding YouTube video to match. I will be undergoing a minor procedure tomorrow at around the same time any new temple news is expected to be released (at 2:00 PM MDT), so my report on tomorrow's update will be delayed as a result until I return home later in the afternoon.

That being said, I am also well aware that tomorrow also marks the media day for the Grand Junction Colorado Temple, so it is entirely possible that may be the only major temple construction announcement we get tomorrow, but I'm hoping it won't be. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
