BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Opening Arrangements Announced for Yorba Linda California Temple; Groundbreaking Arrangements Announced for Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple; Site Locations Confirmed and Preliminary Information Released for the Beira Mozambique and Spanish Fork Utah Temples

Hello again, everyone! A few minutes ago, the First Presidency officially confirmed the opening arrangements for the Yorba Linda California Temple, groundbreaking arrangements for the Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple, and the preliminary details for the Beira Mozambique and Spanish Fork Utah Temples. There's a lot to get to, so let's dive right in!

A media day for the Yorba Linda California Temple will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, with invited guests touring the temple for the next two days. A public open house will be held from Thursday, April 30, through Saturday, May 23, 2026. The temple dedication will follow on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with a rebroadcast of those services at 2:00 PM.

The dedication will be carried to all units in the temple district. A presiding apostle has not yet been announced, but I am sure any apostle with ties to the area the temple will serve will be the one assigned to dedicate that temple. Who that might be is less certain. As soon as a presiding apostle is assigned, I will note that on this blog in a subsequent comment.

The time frame announced for these arrangements took me by surprise a bit. I was anticipating that the next temple dedication announced would only occur in July or August at the earliest, so it also gives me hope that other temple dedications may be set to occur in June as well. Incidentally, this is the same date previously announced for the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple dedication, so the Church could easily double- or even triple-up on other Sundays in June. So it's back to the drawing board as far as those estimates are concerned, and I hope I'm wrong on those estimates as well.

As for the Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple, groundbreaking services will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2025, with Elder Patricio M. Giuffra, Central America Area president, presiding. The temple dedication follows its announcement in October 2022, with the site location confirmed in mid-March 2023, and the release of its exterior rendering 14 months later. This will be the third groundbreaking this year, and will be occurring at around the same time as the third temple groundbreaking last year.

That brings us to the new information about the temples in Mozzambique and Utah. Mozambique's first temple, planned to be approximately 10,000 square feet (which could mean it will be a modular temple), and with plans including patron housing and arrival facilities, will rise on a 2.5-acre site located at Avenida 24 de Julho, Beira, Mozambique. This announcement follows the temple's April 2021 announcement by then-Church President Russell M. Nelson.

And Utah's newest temple will rise on a 8.7-acre site at the corner of 100 South and 2550 East in Spanish Fork, Utah. The multistory temple of 80,000 square feet will be accompanied by an ancillary building. As confirmed by the Church Temples site, design work for that temple is already underway, and groundwater and soil samples have been evaluated as well. With that in mind, hopefully this temple will have an exterior rendering and groundbreaking announced in the near term. This announcement follows the temple announcement by President Nelson in April last year.

In view of these announcements, there are now 58 temples for which the confirmation of any official information is pending. I am grateful for today's announcements, and hope to see more temple news next Tuesday (since next Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the United States). I also hope we will see the new apostle announced on Thursday or Friday of this week. I will be covering all such updates if/when/as they occur.

I invite you all to stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as all such feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. 1. I am excited for the Yorba Linda Temple. It is in the mission boundaries that my son is in (Anaheim California).

    1. Nathaniel, thanks so much for stopping by to share your son's connection to this temple. If memory serves, the Church often tasks missionaries to help staff the temple during its' public open house, which would be an amazing experience for your son if that happens. But I'm sure being there during the dedication will also be a choice experience for him either way. Thanks again for weighing in here. I always appreciate hearing from you.

    2. When we talked with him today, he stated that they can take friends, but the sister missionaries will be helping with staffing the open house.

    3. That makes sense, especially in light of the recent adjustments to the service of sister missionaries in relation to temples. Interesting. Thanks, Nathanial!

  2. The Newsroom has created a repository page for temple news in 2026, and both temple announcements from the last two days are linked on it now. And the Church News has provided reports on the dedication, groundbreaking and site announcements.

    2. After what has been a very busy Tuesday for me, I am pleased to be able to share the text of the prayer written and offered by Church President Dallin H. Oaks to dedicate the Burley Idaho Temple, in addition to coverage of 10 Church News articles about ministering. the latest edition of the Church News podcast, and Elder Bednar's teachings on the supernal events in the decade leading up to the 1830 restoration of the Church, which were offered at a devotaional at the Logan Institute of Religion at Utah State University.

In addition to that, the Church Temples site has noted that the major construction for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple is now nearing completion, as a consequence of which it joins the growing list of temples anticipated to be completed in early 2026 (with that list now including Cleveland Ohio, Sanl Luis Potosi Mexico, Torreon Mexico, Pago Pago American Samoa, Belo Horizonte Brazil, Managua Nicaragua, and Port Moresby Papua New Guinea).

Interestingly enough, the updated status for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple further notes that the first temple leaders have been called, but that has not yet been confirmed by the Church News, insofar as I have been able to ascertain. Perhaps that is forthcoming, though. Until that is officially confirmed by the Church News, I have made a footnote about it on my temple construction progress report.

I am currently attempting to ascertain whether there are any other temple construction status updates, and if there are any, I will pass them along ASAP. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    5. On this Wednesday, the Church News has shared a few new updates: BYU-Idaho President Elder Alvin R. Meredith III and his wife encouraged students to be good Samaritans; a new Church News video contains Elder David A. Bednar's testimony of the restoration; members of the First Presidency and Qouorum of the Twelve are finding new audiences on YouTube (which was also reported by the Newsroom); and an inspiring conversion story. My thanks once again to you all

    6. And it appears, per the Church Temples site, that general completion estimates have been taken off of every temple in the current construction queue, with each temple status only showing the following information:

"Open House and Dedication: Not yet announced (generally takes place several months after construction completion)" and with the general estimates being removed from each individual temple. In view of this adjustment, it may be harder for me to track updates to the completion estimates. I have sent an inquiry in to find out what happened there and will pass along any information I can find on this once I become aware thereof. My thanks once again to you all.

    7. It was just brought to my attention that the Church News page for the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple lists the current president and matron, although there is not yet a link to a biography for them, so hopefully confirmation of that is soon forthcoming.

I also was able to ascertain that completion estimates for temples cannot be found anywhere else in the public domain, so hopefully those estimates may be restored on the Church Temples site at some point. In the meantime, I will adjust my latest document showing updated general completion estimates for the temples in the queue to now only show those temples in various separate categories: under construction, full-scale construction pending, and undergoing renovation. My thanks once again to you all.

    8. I have finished updating the document in question. I will continue to monitor the completion order, whether or not the estimates are brought back, and will report those updates here as they cross my radar. My thanks once again to you all.

  3. Hello again, everyone! In view of some ongoing health challenges I'm currently dealing with, at least for today's coverage, I will just provide the hyperlinks with brief descriptions form the last two days. Yesterday, the first set of16 biographies for new mission leaders were released. The Newsroom and the Church News shared the latest on the renovation of the Salt LakeTemple. The Church News provided the latest edition of "ThisWeek on Social",, which is well worthy of your perusal.

Elder Taylor G. Godoy provided key counsel to Peruvian youth. Church members in MetroManila look forward to tomorrow's dedication of the Alabang Philippines Temple. And Church News editor Jon Ryan Jensen offers a primer on sustaining a new Church President, based on the counsel of a wise seminary teacher.

I too had a wise seminary teacher, who once emphasized to our class the importance of coming to know for ourselves that any change in the Church was and is inspired by the Lord, I prayed for such a confirmation shortly thereafter, and it came not long after that. I have felt that confirmation again and again anytime any change is made in the Church, in the very instant that change is announced. As a result, I can testify with certainty that President Oaks is the chosen prophet of the Lord for our time, that the apostles he has picked and will yet pick have been prepared by the Lord for those roles, and that the revelation for the Church that has come and will yet come from President Oaks as he is inpsired to announce them are exactly what is absolutely needed for the current time. My thanks once again to you all.

    5. The Church News has shared a report on the dedication of the Alabang Philippines Temple by Elder David A. Bednar, With 212 temples now dededicated, there are 88 temples left to dedicate in the 4.21 years remaining between today and Saturday, April 6, 2030 (the bicentennial anniversary of the Church's reestablishment), so getting to 300 temples culd be possible iby that date if roughly 20-21 templs are dedicated per year. And with 6 more dedications set to be held between now and early June, that average is expected to diminish significantly, by which time a minimum of 9 othera are also anticipated to be dedicated.

As I mentioned, tomorrow is Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the United States, a federal holiday on which no major temple construction announcement is anticipated.tobe made. So the soonest we will hear of any such updates will be Tuesday, if there is any news at all this week. My thanks once again to you all.

Additionally, the Church News also covered the media day for the Harare Zimbabwe Temple, with Elders Vaiangina (Vai) Sikahema (Second Counselor in the Africa South Area presidency) and Erich W. Kopischke (Assistant Executive Director of the Temple Department) leading those tours. And with our "Come, Follow Me" study focusing on Moses 4-5 and Genesis 3-4, read what Church leaders have said about those passages. My thanks once again to you all.

    8. On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the United States, the Church News has published only one new report thus far. As I mentioned previously, because of today's holiday, the earliest I anticipate any potential new temple construction news is tomorrow at 2:00 PM. But it is also very possible that the updates on the Harare Zimbabwe and Alabang Philippines Temples may be the only updates we get this week. That being said, we do have the two temple groundbreakings to look forward to on Saturday, so there have been and will be quite a few major temple construction updates this week, even if nothing else is reported tomorrow. Either way, stay tuned here for my coverage of anything else that may come down the pike this week. My thanks once again to you all.

    9. And speaking of the two temple groundbreakings in question, you can watch them both on the Church's page for broadcasts of temple groundbreakings. In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable.
