UPDATED: April 2026 General Conference Predictions

Hello again, everyone! In view of the November 17 announcement to discontinue the Saturday Evening Session of General Conference, the November 6 call of Elder Gérald Caussé, and the February 12 call of Elder Clark G. Gilbert to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, I have made major revisions to my April 2026 General Conference predictions. So I now present my revised projections for the speaker lineup, my predictions for changes in general Church leadership (which also includes my estimates for the data in the Statistical Report for 2025)  and my masterlist of potential locations in which a temple could be announced.

As previously mentioned, during an interview in conjunction with the Burley Idaho Temple dedication, President Oaks said the following about the announcement of new temples: "It has occurred to me for a long time that the best place to announce a temple is in that temple district. And the best person to announce it is the file leader in that area, which can be an Apostle on assignment to a stake conference or another meeting, or it can be the area president if there’s no Apostle in the district when a decision is made by the First Presidency to have a temple there."

He further stated: "It’s a pattern that we will follow as long as I have influence in determining those things. This does not change the pattern of decision-making or gathering facts and determining the agreeable timing and the need. And all those things will continue to be analyzed. But when it comes to making a decision from all those facts, the First Presidency will continue to make the decisions. But they’ll assign someone else to make the announcement in the place where the temple will be built."

With that in mind, I don't think there will be any new temples announced in any General Conference at all under President Oaks' prophetic administration. But Iwanted to include mymasterlist anyways, though I would be  shocked if the Easter-centric General Conference included temple announcements. We may or may not see somethingelse announced, but that is harder to project. And with just 4 sessions instead of the 5, there may be fewer speakers, or the non-apostolic speakers may have shorter allotments of time.

Whatevermight happen during General Conference weekend, I invite you all to stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as all such feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. 1. Hello again, everyone! While I continue to welcome any comments on my April 2026 predictions here, I wanted to note on this Sabbath morning that the First Presidency has released its'2026 Easter message, which is well worthy of your time and attention. My thanks once again to you all.

    2. With our "Come, Follow Me" study for the upcoming week focusing on 6 chapters (Genesis 18-23), read what Church leaders have taught about those passages. And the Church News has also provided their coverage of the Fairview Texas Temple groundbreaking. My thanks once again to you all.

    3. The Church News shared an update on a Latter-day Saint Olympian. And our Zimbabwean General Authority Seventy, Elder Edward Dube, shares his anticipation for the upcoming dedication of the Harare Zimbabwe Temple, which is set to occur next week, under the direction of Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. From the article in question, it appears that Elder Dube will not be participating in the dedicatory services. Lately, the pattern for dedication attendees has been 1 apostle (Elder Gong, in this case), 1 member of the Presiding Bishopric, 1-2 Executive Director or Assistant Executive Directors of the Temple Departmeent, and 1-2 members of the area presidency.

That temple's dedication day (Sunday March 1) conncides with my next planned apostolic data update, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, on a separate note, I don't believe the news about the Fairview Texas Temple groundbreaking will be the only update we get this week, so stay tuned here tomorrow during the 2:00 PM hour for my coverage of whatever else might be announced. My thanks once again to you all.

    4. Oh, and I almost forgot: there is also one temple construction status update to share: for the Vancouver Washington Temple. In addition, I wanted to note something I may have forgotten to mention before now: On Monday, the Church Temples site reported an update on the Jacksonville Florida Temple, and in view of that update, I moved that temple up into the construction queue in my documents. But that temple's placement in the construction queue remains unchanged (among the temples for which full-scale construction is currently pending). So I don't know if the work that's being done on that temple is in a preliminary stage, or if/when that temple (or any of the others, for that matter) may be included in the construction queue.

As always, stay tuned here for updates from the Church News, the Newsroom, and the Church Temples sites. I will bring word of such reports to you all here ASAP after I learn about them. And I am hopeful that the Church will be announcing something significant temple-wise tomorrow during the 2:00 PM hour. Including tomorrow, there are just 6 Mondays remaining before General Conference weekend, so I hope for a lot more temple announcements for the next 6 weeks. My thanks once again to you all.

    5. On this Monday, we are roughly 1 hour away from the anticipated announcement of the next major temple construction update. While I don't quite know what to expect in that regard, I am hoping for one or two temple dedications, 1 or 2 additional groundbreaking announcements, 1 or 2 exterior renderings, and/or 1 or 2 site location confirmations. The one thing I don't know is, given that the last temple dedication was announced on January 12 and set for June 7, will any other dedications (or the rededication of the San Diego California Temple) be set to occur before the end of June?

Also, will any temple dedications or that rededication be set to occur in July (which has traditionally been the recess month for those at Church headquarters)? At any rate, I am hoping that, because there are now 6 temples completed and awaiting the announcement of their respective opening arrangements, that at least one dedication could be announced. Similarly, I have a minimum of 11 temples for which groundbreakings could be announced (which does not account for any temples lower in my personal queue having a groundbreaking announced). So there are options there.

We also have 17 temples with confirmed locations but without an exterior rendering, so any of those could have renderings released and/or groundbreakings announced. And with 107 announced temples, hopefully movement on any of them could be announced, whatever that might involve and entail. In the interim, while we await today's announcement, the Church News has shared two reports that speak for themselves. My thanks once again to you all.

    6. The Church News posted this update on Peruvian mudslides, just before today's temple announcement (covered in the next post). My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
