BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: First Presidency Announces Marysville Washington Temple

Good evening, everyone! This evening, as some of you may already be aware, the First Presidency announced a new temple to be built in Marysville Washington this evening. The First Presidency announcement was read by Elder Hugo E. Martinez of the United States West Area Presidency, during a devotional in the Marysville Washington Stake. The full text of the First Presidency announcement follows below:

"We are pleased to announce the construction of a temple in Marysville, Washington, The specific location and timing of the construction will be announced later. This is a reason for all of us to rejoice and express gratitude for such a significant blessing — one that will allow more frequent access to the ordinances, covenants and power that can only be found in the house of the Lord."

This announcement continues a pattern laid out by President Oaks at the dedication of the Burley Idaho Temple: a member of the area presidency, as authorized, reads the announcement in the area in which the temple in question will be built. There are now 384 temples worldwide, and this will be the seventh temple in Washington State.

And this unexpected announcement comes just over 4 months after the first such temple announcement (for Portland Maine). Couldd this suggest a pattern for when we might expect the next new temple to be announced? If so, then the third temple announced under President Oaks' presiding direction could be announced in August of this year. I for one am hoping to see the next announcement sooner than that, but time will tell.

The Church News has not yet reported on this update, but when they do, that report will be shared in the comment section below. In any case, this announcement makes it clear that this is indeed the new method of announcing temples that, as President Oaks stated, will be observed for as long as he has any say in such matters.  I still don't think that this additional temple announcement will be all we get this week. But time will tell.

I invite you all to keep watch on this blog during the 2:00 PM MDT hour for my analysis of anything else that is announced. I invite you all to stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
