BREAKING NEWS: 10 Additional New Hymns Released

Hello again, everyone! Today, I am pleased to share that 10 additional new hymns have been released. These newest hymns focus on"simple, Christ-centered truths". The ten have been released in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, and will be available in the Gospel Library app later today. These 10 hymns are:

“Peace, Peace, Be Still”

“Great Is Thy Faithfulness”

“Isaiah Said”

“Fight the Good Fight”

“It’s Joyful to Live the Gospel”

“To God Be the Glory”

“Speak to Us, Lord”

“The Miracle”

“What God Calls Us To”

“When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”

Of these 10 newest selections, I have familiarity with "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" & "To God Be the Glory" (courtesy of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Sqaure) & "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" (courtesy of the ward choir in my parents' ward a decade or two ago). These 10 additions bring the total number of released hymns to 82.

The Newsroom release also noted that "Additional hymns are being released in other languages, including 22 in Armenian and Malagasy, nine in Cebuano, Indonesian, Italian, Samoan, and Tongan, and 12 in German, Korean, and Tagalog."

We may be just about a year ahead of when the new hymnbooks are available for release, so I project that we may have about 3-4 more batches of new hymns released before the new hymnbook is widely available in our congregations. And while we don't know how big the "core collection" of current hymns and children's songs will be, taking a look at some of the current hymns that have been sung in the most recent General Conferences may give us clues.

I am grateful for these newest releases, and for the chance to pass this analysis on to you all. I invite you all to stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now.

All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as all such feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. 1. I have been somewhat derelict in passing along the latest from the Church News and the Newsroom. On Tuesday, in addition to the report shared in this comment on the threads of the previous post, Young Men General President Timothy J. Farnes took to a social media Livestream his suggestions for how youth can be missionaries now. The outgoing Primary General Presidency shared their thoughts as their service nears its' August 1 conclusion. In that report, it is noted that each member of the Relief Society, Young Women, or Primary General Presidencies now serve on one of the top 3 Church councils: the Priesthood and Family, Temple and Family History, and Missionary Executive Councils.

This means that with President Susan H. Porter on the Temple and Family History Executive Council and Sister Amy A. Wright on the Missionary Executive Council, Sister Tracy Y. Browning has been serving on the Priesthood and Family Executive Council. By extension, that means that, with Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson on the Priesthood and Family Executive Council and Sister Kristin M. Yee on the Temple and Family History Executive Council, Sister J. Anette Dennis is on the Missionary Executive Council. Further, it means that, with Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman on the Missionary Executive Council and Sister Andrea M. Spannaus on the Priesthood and Family Executive Council, Sister Tamara W. Runia is on the Temple and Family History Executive Council.

There will be more information on that interview between Church News editor Jon Ryan Jensen and the members of the Primary General Presidency when that podcast episode is released (likely sometime on Tuesday of next week, just a few days before that presidency concludes its service. Moving on to other updates, Church President Dallin H. Oaks presided at the recent Olsen family reunion (Elder Ryan K. Olsen was also in attendance at the reunion). Several Utah stakes have been witnesses to and recipients of tender mercies and miracles as they prepared for the "Days of '47 KSLParade" Brother David J. Wunderli, First Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency, counseled BYU-Idaho spring graduates to develop, maintain, and increase their efforts to emulate the character of Christ. And a new, optional Sunday School class for new adult Church members and all those who are learning about the Church. The new class will be called "Gospel Foundations".

Meanwhile, there has been just one new report from the Newsroom. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. I inadvertently omitted the link to the story about the Young Men General President's live stream. I apologize for that oversight. And on this Pioneer Day, the Church News has shared a few new updates: what to know about the Salt Lake Temple open house; how youth in Asia are strengthening their faith through youth conferences, For the Strength of Youth events, and service; and the latest edition of "This Week on Social", which featured posts from the following general Church leaders:

Elders Neil L. Andersen and Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Soceity General President Camille N. Johnson (from whom two posts were shared); Sister Tamara W. Runia, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency (though the article erroneously lists her as the Second Counselor in that presidency); and Sister Tracy Y. Browning, the outgoing Second Counselor in the Primary General Presidency.

Additionally, the viewers of the "Days of '47 KSL Parade" were treated to a surprise appearance by Church President Dallin H. Oaks and his wife, Kristin, on the Parade route. The Newsroom covered his appearance. My thanks once again to you all.

    5. The keynote speakers for the 2026 Utah ARea YSA Conference have been shared. THe list includes Sisters Kristin M. Yee, Second Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency and Andrea Munoz Spannaus, the Second Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, in addition to the Utah Area Presidency (Elders Brian K. Taylor, John A. McCune, and Jorge T. Becerra). Interestingly enough, that list excludes the newest counselor in that area presidency, Elder Thabo Lebothoa. I am not sure why that is. My thanks once again to you all.

    8. Last night, following my comment above, the Church News posted a report that speaks for itself. Then on this Sabbath Day, the Church News has shared a few more updates: updates to the Gospel Library and Member Tools apps; 19 stake presidencies have recently been called (3 for new stakes, the other 16 for reorganizations); the latest edition of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review" recapped the top 9 updates reported by the Church News in the last week; and, since our "Come, Follow Me" study this week centers on Ezra 1, 3-7 and Nehemiah 2, 4-6, 8 (a total of 11 chapters), see what Church leaders have taught about those passages. My thanks once again to you all..

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
