Yet Another Revision to My Thoughts About Announced Temples

Hello again, everyone! Roughly 50 hours ago, I had posted on this blog another update to my thoughts about announced temples, which were highlighted in the two sections of my temple construction progress report which focused on announced temples. The two relevant sections of that report are "Groundbreaking pending" (where sufficient information exists to enable me to venture a general groundbreaking estimate) and "Announced temples" (for which I felt more information was needed before I ventured such an estimate).

As I analyzed those developments and molded my thoughts around them, I began with 16 temples in the "Groundbreaking anticipated" section, along with 8 others for which I needed more information. From there, based on what is known and what is not, I made appropriate adjustments. The two adjusted sections of my report follow below. So as to not disturb the flow of that information, I will end here and now as I always do:

That does it for this post. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly-added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

Groundbreaking anticipated:
178. Saratoga Springs Utah Temple: Government approval phase; awaiting official site confirmation and release of artist’s rendering; groundbreaking could occur in mid-2019.
179. Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple: Existing institute building and meetinghouse closed on January 27, 2019 in preparation for demolition; groundbreaking could occur in mid-2019.
180. Brasilia Brazil Temple: Planning and approval phase; property fence installed around temple site; groundbreaking could occur in mid-to-late 2019.
181. Greater Manila Philippines Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official name announcement; groundbreaking could occur in mid-to-late 2019.
182. Harare Zimbabwe Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement; President Nelson visited potential site on April 17, 2018; groundbreaking anticipated in late 2019.
Note: Although the site visited by President Nelson in April 2018 has not been confirmed as the official location for the temple, Elder Andersen, in a November meeting with Zimbabwe’s Vice President, noted that the Church hoped to break ground for that temple in the late months of 2019. So I have no doubt that will be able to occur.
183. Nairobi Kenya Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site confirmation; groundbreaking could occur in late 2019.
Note: The Church of Jesus Christ Temples site noted in mid-February 2019 that a site had been procured for this temple. But during President Nelson’s visit to Nairobi in April 2018, a public affairs representative had noted that this temple would be smaller, and that a dedication for it was anticipated to occur sometime in 2021. So it seems reasonable to assume that a groundbreaking could occur within the next 12 months, but hopefully sooner, if all goes well.
184. Salta Argentina Temple: Planning and approval phase; groundbreaking could occur in late 2019-early 2020.
Note: The site has already been confirmed for this temple.
185. Quito Ecuador Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site confirmation; groundbreaking could occur in late 2019-early 2020.
Note: The Church of Jesus Christ Temples site noted in mid-February 2019 that a site had been procured for this temple.
186. Mendoza Argentina Temple: Planning and approval phase; groundbreaking could occur in early 2020.
Note: The site has already been confirmed for this temple.
187. Puebla Mexico Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement; groundbreaking could occur in early 2020.
Note: A Church member living in Mexico reports that the area presidency is scouting that city for temple locations, and that construction could begin in the early months of 2020.

Announced Temples (for which more information is needed before I provide a groundbreaking estimate):
188. Layton Utah Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
Note: A potential site has already been identified (though not yet confirmed) for this temple.
189. Richmond Virginia Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
Note: A potential site has already been identified (though not yet confirmed).
190. Managua Nicaragua Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
Note: I found out several years ago that the Church had held land in reserve for a temple in this city for a while now, so I hope that means a site confirmation will occur sooner rather than later.
191. Auckland New Zealand Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
Note: I found out several years ago that the Church had held land in reserve for a temple in this city for a while now (with that fact confirmed by a Church member living in that area), so I hope that means a site confirmation will occur sooner rather than later.
192. Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement; groundbreaking could occur in mid-2020.
Note: A potential site has already been identified (though not yet confirmed) for this temple.
193. Bengaluru India Temple: Planning and approval phase; announced April 1, 2018; awaiting official site announcement; President Nelson toured potential locations on April 19, 2018.
194. Belem Brazil Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
195. Cagayan de Oro Philippines Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
196. Salvador Brazil Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
197. Yuba City, California Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
198. Lagos Nigeria Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
199. Davao Philippines Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official site announcement.
200. Washington County Utah Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official city (and site) announcement.
201. Russia Temple: Planning and approval phase; awaiting official city (and site) announcement.

  1. The groundbreaking and construction dates for a temple in Managua Nicaragua depend on the civil strive going on in that country.

    1. Thank you for stopping by to comment. Your point is well-taken. The same civil unrest and strife which caused the Church to pull missionaries out of that nation still exists to a certain degree. At the same time, I have on good authority that the Church has held land in reserve for the Managua temple, so if they already own the land (if that parcel is confirmed as the site for the temple) that might speed things up a bit. The Lord has been known to move mountains in cases like this, so I am sure He could and will do so again. When then-Elder Nelson visited Managua in 2012 and publicly proposed a temple for Managua, he made the following statement: "I promise you that when you are ready, the Lord will do His part so that you have a temple." The nature of that statement goes back to what has been said on this blog previously, that in similar cases, unless the Lord or His servants attach conditions or restrictions to such promises, they remain in force.

I mention this because, before April 2018, if anyone had told me temples for Russia and India were going to be announced in the near future, I would have dismissed that as impossible. But the Lord's higher ways and thoughts prevailed, and I have no doubt He will facilitate a swift beginning for both temples, even if that beginning is slower than we have typically seen with areas not affected by political or religious problems. With that in mind, there have been other areas (Venezuela, for example) where the Lord's prophets or apostles have promised a temple, and the Lord has moved the necessary mountains to enable that to happen. I have no doubt whatsoever He will do so again with Nicaragua, India, and Russia. Hope these insights are helpful to you. Thanks again for taking time to comment.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
