Possible Table of Contents for the November 2019 Ensign

Hello again, everyone! As many of you may be aware, the Church News has a time-honored tradition of publishing summaries of each General Conference talk ASAP after they are given. Those summaries include tentative titles for each address which, if later corrected when the actual transcripts are made available a few days following each General Conference, are not too far off from the actual titles of those addresses. As a result of the publication of those summaries online, and due to the fact that the video version of each talk is now available online, I have taken the liberty, based on the length of each such address and the aforementioned tentative titles for each talk, to put together an early draft of what the table of contents for the November 2019 Ensign may wind up looking like.

How I crafted these estimates was approximately estimating that every four minutes of any given address would be the equivalent of roughly one page of content inj the Ensign. Based on the resulting estimates, I have been able to configure what I hope wind up being slightly more accurate page estimates than I have offered in the possible table of content for previous General Conference editions of the Ensign.

It is also worth mentioning that for most of these addresses, the estimates resulted in an average 3 pages for each talk. And I anticipate that, due to the fact that this latest General Conference saw quite a few more developments before and during that weekend, I am fully anticipating that the General Conference Ensign this go-round will feature 144 pages of content. With that introduction out of the way, the mock-up of the potential table of contents follows below.

In order to not disturb the flow of that information, I will end here as I always do: That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. Page 2 and 4 would be 189th Semi-Annual General Conference, not 188th Annual.

    1. coachodeeps, thank you for catching that. I figured out how it happened: The November 2018 and May 2019 Ensigns were shorter editions of 128 pages each. So since I anticipate this edition being 144 pages, as the May editions usually are, due to the number of new developments reported this go-round. So in order to craft the above mock-up for the potential layout of the upcoming edition, I copied and pasted, then made alterations specific to this conference, and the information you mentioned was the one part I failed to update accordingly. Thank you for advising me about that. I have fixed it.

  2. Layton temple exterior rendering released.

Also this tweet from Pres Nelson:

    Wendy and I—along with Elder
    @ChristoffDTodd
and his wife, Katherine—are thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, and Indonesia in mid-November.

    1. coachodeeps, I saw both of those press releases from the Newsroom around an hour ago. It has been a busy day for developments, which have included also the report on how the president of Kiribati visited Church headquarters during this General COnference weekend.

Also today, Acting President M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is observing his 91st birthday. I blogged about the other developments around half an hour ago, and will have the birthday tribute post to President Ballard shared later this afternoon. In the meantime, I anticipate that hopefully the Layton temple may have its' groundbreaking within the next six months or less, if all goes well, which would be a wonderful development. I think we are in very soon for a windfall of announced temple groundbreakings. Thanks again, coachodeeps, for taking time to comment.

  3. The render of Layton is an excellent building, and I’m always glad to see more two spire temple designs. It looks like it will be a very large temple, almost as large as Provo City Center. President Nelson visiting Vietnam is very interesting. The Church received recognition there only a little over three years ago. It’s probably early for a temple there (though Singapore and Indonesia could receive one soon), but for the Saints there to have the opportunity to hear and meet the President of the Church so soon will be a tremendous blessing to many, I’m sure.

    1. Hello, Daniel! Thank you for taking time to comment. I will be intrigued to see how soon we may see a groundbreaking for that temple. As for its' size, the information I have found indicates that the Provo City Center Temple has an area of 85,084 square feet. And the Layton Utah Temple will have an area of 87,000 square feet. So in actuality, the Provo City Center Temple is just a bit smaller than the Layton Utah Temple will be.

I found it interesting that President Nelson is fitting in a third ministry tour for 2019. And the nations he will visit were last visited by President Hinckley in the late 1990s and early 2000s. President Nelson becomes only the second Church President to visit these nations. This work is truly moving at an accelerated pace, and President Nelson keeps reminding me of the Energizer bunny. I believe that all nations President Nelson will visit may have a temple announced some day. Vietnam may be more of a long-shot for now, but it often happens that a visit from a Church president, especially when such gatherings include friends of other faiths or no faith at all can cause a resulting surge of Church growth and strength following such visits. And I am hoping the visit may yield more information in November about the location and potential design for the Phnom Pehn Cambodia Temple. It will be interesting to see, and I will be sure to cover all such developments here. In the meantime, thank you, Daniel, for taking time to comment.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
