Blog Commenting Issues Leading to a Temporary Change

Hello again, everyone! There has been an influx of spam comments on this blog recently, all of a similar nature. As time and circumstances have allowed, I have looked for a reasonable solution, but dealing with this problem is taking too much of my focus. As a consequence, I have had to reort to enabling full moderation on all comments published on this blog for the time being. This means that even for those who regularly comment, I will need to grant approval for all such comments. I regret having to take this course of action, but the nature of the massive spam comments has left me no other alternative for the time being. But I will do my best to quickly approve all valid comments ASAP after I receive word of them. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding at this time regarding this highly irregular situation. That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. As those comments will now of necessity be moderated, I appreciate your patience for the time being. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do

  1. Hello again, everyone! Within the last 15 mintues, the Church News has shared reports on the deaths of an emeritus GA Seventy (Elder F. Enzio Busche) and the wife of another emeritus GA Seventy (Sister Shirley Porter, wife of Elder L. Aldin Porter). The death of the former occurred this morning, while the death of the latter occurred a couple of months ago and is just now being reported:

My thanks once again to you all.

  2. Hello again, everyone! The Church News reported how Latter-day Saints in neighboring states came to Michigan to help in recovery efforts following massive flooding:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/members/2020-05-29/midland-michigan-flood-helping-hands-disaster-relief-185104

And the latest edition of “This Week on Social” has been published:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2020-05-29/this-week-on-social-missionaries-facebook-ad-peace-150-years-young-women-organization-185502

The newest article in that series (a shorter edition thereof) featured posts from the following Church leaders: President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency; Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; and the entire Young Women General Presidency (General President Sister Bonnie H. Cordon and her respective First and Second Counselors, Michelle D. Craig and Becky Craven), with Sister Cordon sharing a detailed post about the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Young Women organization, and her counselors sharing that post.

I continue to work on projects which I am planning on posting on this blog in the coming days. In the meantime, I also will continue to monitor all Church news and temple updates. I am more than slightly surprised that nothing more official has come from Church headquarters about the scheduling of other temple groundbreakings, or the official video and photographs for the small-scale Layton Utah Temple groundbreaking. I am similarly surprised that full-scale construction is still pending on that temple, since last week's announcement indicated that part of the reasoning for the small-scale groundbreaking was so that construction could proceed on schedule. Stay tuned for all such updates as I become aware of them. In the meantime, myh thanks once again to you all.

  3. Hello again, everyone! I just now realized that I had inadvertently split the latest Church news and temple construction updates between the prior post and this one. So I'd encourage you all to catch up on the latest in both threads. Also, I have recently replaced the subscribe buttons with an option to follow the blog by email. I may utilize both options. Thanks again, everyone!

  4. Hello again, everyone! The Church News and the Newsroom today provided a video recording and additional coverage on last Saturday's private, small-scale groundbreaking for the Layton Utah Temple:

    https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/layton-temple-groundbreaking

Among the insights shared in that coverage is the note that Utah Area President Elder Craig C. Christensen presided over, conducted, and spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony, while the prayer to dedicate the temple site was offered by his First Counselor in the area presidency, Elder Randy D. Funk. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. Forgot to note as well that, according to the Church News coverage of the groundbreaking, formal construction efforts officially began for the Layton Utah Temple on the Tuesday following the groundbreaking (since Monday was Memorial Day here in the United States). According to the information in that Church News article, the process began as crews worked on the demolition of a barn and other structures found on the site. So that means that full-scale construction did indeed begin during the last week, and the temple is no longer in a "pending" status as a result. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. Daniel, thanks for stopping by to comment. I apologize for my delay in getting your comment approved and visibl3e, but as I mentioned in this post, I am dealing with massive amounts of spam comments currently that have made moderation of those comments now necessary for the time being. Thanks for being patient with me on that matter. That groundbreaking was one of two major developments relted to temples, and the third major Church news items I will need to cover today on this blog. I myself first saw the news due to the report thereof on the Church Temples site. But regarding the report in question, I'm not sure what may actually be going on. It appears that that press release from the Newsroom has disappeared or is no longer available for some unknown reason. So I wno't be able to use that web address you cited in sharing that information here.

I'm not sure why the release disappearned. What I do know, however, is that the Church temples site has confirmed that groundbreaking, which is enough for my purposes. My guess is that with all the updates being made at Church headquarters (with the creation of the 4 new Quorums of area seventies going into effect today, and with "News of the Church" merging into the Church Newsroom, among other changes, that release may have needed to be taken down temporarily. Hopefully it will be back up at the link in question later this afternoon or evening. Thank you, Daniel, for taking time to comment. I always appreciate hearing from you.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
