BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Groundbreakings Held for Coban Guatemala and Davao Philippines Temples

Hello again, everyone! After last week, when 3 of the 8 November temple groundbreakings took place, I wasn't sure what to expect for this week. But as confirmed by the Newsroom this morning, ground has been broken for the Davao Philippines Temple,Additionally, the Guate mala Newsroom notes that a transmitted broadcast will be held at 6:00 PM Guatemalan time for the Coban Guatemala Temple

I don't know if that's the video version of a groundbreaking that has occurred/will occur earlier in the day, or whether that is the live broadcast of the event, but what I do know is that, given the time difference, the video will be made available at 5:00 PM Utah time. With these temple groundbreakings having taken place, that leaves 3 of the 8 left to occur later this month, including the Antofagasta Chile, Mendoza Argentina, and McAllen Texas Temples. I believe that at least two of those could occur one week from today, which would leave 1 to occur in the final 1-2 weeks in November.

I will be sure to keep my eyes open for word on those events and will pass that along here as I become aware of it. In the interim, the two groundbreakings that have been (or will be) held today brings the queue of temples under construction to a new high total of 29, with 34 now announced. I am grateful to have been able to find out about these events and to bring you word thereof. I continue to monitor all Church news and temple updates and will bring you all word of those as I become aware of them as well.

That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and app;reciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. Hello again, everyone! Although the Newsroom release was the source I used in my post above relating to the Davao Philippines Temple, I first found out about that temple's groundbreaking from a Church News app alert on my phone this morning. You can find that article at the following web address:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/temples/2020-11-14/groundbreaking-davao-philppines-temple-197818

Also, it appears as though the Coban temple groundbreaking will indeed occur this evening at 6:00 PM local time, and that the broadcast thereof is being carried live, so that temple will not only be the second one to have a groundbreaking today, but the second one this month to occur in the evening hours local time (following the Salta Argentina Temple).

I should also probably mention that I anticipate that there may be a reshuffling of temples in the construction queue based on the latest groundbreakings which have taken place, and the progress, or the lack thereof, on some of the temples in that queue. I'll be watching and evaluating that as I can. I will have some other Church news in a few minutes. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    1. A Church News staff writer sat down this week with the members of the Young Women General Presidency, who provided a preview of tomorrow's planned Face-to-Face event celebrating 150 years of the history of that organization. The leaders expressed their excitement for the opportunity to help young women look back on the history of the organization, providing helpful counsel for the current times when a gllobal pandemic continues to rage, and to expressing their hope for the future of the organization and of the young women worldwide over whom they have stewardship:

The Church has released a new inspirational message in the form of a video sharing the story of a young woman who found peace through the gospel message as taught by the missionaries during a time when her mother was seriously ill and dying:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2020-11-14/inspirational-message-video-india-missionaries-baptism-hope-plan-of-salvation-197721

The Church News also shared a "Spoken Word" message that was previously given, and will be broadcast again this weekend in "Music and the Spoken Word":

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2020-11-14/music-and-the-spoken-word-just-what-the-doctor-ordered-197600

As previously noted in another thread, the Church plans to air four Christmas-themed broadcasts of "Music and the Spoken Word" on November 29 and December 6, 13 and 20, with a recording of last year's Christmas concert replacing the standard new Christmas Concert for this year.

I may or may not have other temple developments to cover, which, if I do, I will publish here later today. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    2. I have another update to provide as a correction to my first comment on this thread. I had noted in that comment that the 6:00 PM broadcast for the Coban Guatemala Temple might be a live one. But in between when I noted that and now, the Newsroom has provide a report indicating that the groundbreaking for that temple has already occurred, meaning that this evening's broadcast will be a video recording of the event that already transpired:

I am grateful to have had confirmation of both groundbreakings provided today. My thanks once again to you all.

  4. Hello again, everyone! As has been the case every Monday for the last several weeks, the sole COVID-19 reintegration update from the Church relates to the status of temples. The Church News and Newsroom both provided different demographic focus on the latest updates:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/temples/2020-11-16/lds-temples-open-worldwide-phased-reopening-183918

    https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/first-presidency-limited-reopening-temples

First, 4 more of the Church's temples are finally reopening under phase 1, which allows for husband-to-wife sealings where both have previously been endowed, with limited guests in attendance, and proper care taken to adhere to governmental protocols. The four are the Arequipa, Lima, and Truillo Peru and the Buenos Aires Argentina Temples.

Additionally, due to changes in local regulations and recommendations, the Church has paused all operations in two California temples (in San Diego and Sacramento). And for the first time in a long time, no temples in phase 1 have been announced to transition to phase 2, which would allow the performance of all living ordinances in priority order. That being said, the Church News provided some statistical information in that respect, which indicates that 97% of all Church temples are now (or will be) in one of the two phases, and 80% of all currently-operating temples are now in phase 2. So despite the lack of phase advancements this week, the news is still pretty tremendous.

And again, as previously noted, given the resurgence of pandemic conditions throughout so much of the world, the Church will likely hold off for a while yet on advancing any temples to phase 3, which would allow all living ordinances and limited proxy work to be done.

Before the shfit to phase 3 happens, I believe we may continue to see a week-by-week process where either not a lot changes, or where local conditions could lead to a paused status or a temporary downgrade. The question of when exactly any temple could transition to either phase 3 or phase 4 remains to be seen, but I cannot overstate how tremendous it is that temple reopenings are where they currently stand.

That update aside, I am also pleased to report that, in advance of an address anticipated to be carried online and available Churchwide from President Nelson on Friday, he took action this last week to record a message of comfort to Latter-day Saints and friends of other faiths in the Western United States, where wildfires have created widespread devastation. North America West Area President Elder Kevin W. Pearson, who had visited the North America West Area with President Nelson last year, spoke of the significant impact President Nelson's counsel on both occasions has had on the Saints in that area:

My thanks once again to you all.

  5. Hello again, everyone! A couple more Church News updates were provided today. A Church News contributor has provided some thoughts on how COVID-19 has given all of us a unique and very different kind of opportunity to render a particular kind of service:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/members/2020-11-17/shelby-hintze-covid-19-unique-service-opportunity-198017

And the fifth episode of the Church News podcast allowed Church News editor Sister Sarah Jane Weaver a chance to chat with Jeffrey D. Allred. Brother Allred has been a longtime photographer and videographer for both the Deseret News and the Church News, and has had specific experiences over the last two decades covering key moments in the ministries of our prophets and apostles. Some of you may also recognize his name as well from iconic photographs he has taken for the Church magazines. That podcast, either the recording thereof or the transcript, is well worthy of your time and attention:

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
