UPDATE: 2021 Churchwide Events Schedule

Hello again, everyone! I have an update to provide whiich I felt wsrranted a new post rather than a comment on the threads of a previous post.  Over the last several years, it has been somewhat customary for the Church to release a list of Churchwide events for each year in August or September of the preceding year. August, September, and October of this year came and went with no such schedule of 2021 Churchwide events released. And here we are into mid-November, with nothing in that respect released thus far.

As many of you might also recall, on June 1 of this year, the Church announced a streamlining of the way in which Church news and event details would be shared, which involved merging the previously separate  News & Events page into the Newsroom. When that announcement was made, quotations from Church leaders noted that the Newsroom would thus become the main hub on the Church website for all news releases and events.

In view of that change to how Churchwide events are tracked, the decision may have been made to just list the Churchwide events on the Events page as those plans are finalized, rather than putting out an official hard copy of a formal schedule showing all events for the year. Unless a formal schedule for next year is released at a later time before the end of this year, that is my assumption. With that being the most likely scenario, I am pleased to report that the first events for next year have been noted on that events page.

In late February of next year, the Church will hold the Temple and Family History Leadership Instruction,  which will specifically feature the members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles who serve on the Temple and Family History Esecutive Council: Elders David A. Bednar (who chairs that council), Gary E. Stevenson, and Dale G. Renlund. And the dates for the April 2021 General Conference, along with the details for it, have also been confirmed.

As has been traditional, the conference will occur on the first Saturday and Sunday of April (3 and 4 respectively). There will be the Saturday and Sunday Morning and Afternoon Sessions as usual, in addition to the customary Priesthood Session for all men and boys ages 11 and up on Saturday evening. The Sunday sessions will coincide with the 2021 Easter Sunday, so that may or may not change the traditional patterns we have seen in those sessions in recent years.

Other events that will occur in 2021 are likely to be added to that pge as the plans for those are finalized, which includes the Worldwide Devotionals for Young Adults, all Face-to-Face events for all groups, any  other major speaking assignments for Church leaders, and all temple events once those plans are able to move forward. I will do my level best to keep up on additions or alterations to that events list as those occur, and to pass them along to you all here as I learn about them.

That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do

  1. Watch for a rendering and a groundbreaking date in the not too distant future, the temples site posted a picture of some grading and leveling equipment preparing the Syracuse temple site. That was posted very early today

    1. Jim Anderson, thanks for mentioning that here. An update on the Syracuse temple to which I had referred previously led me to believe that such an announcement wasn't too far off:

      https://stokessoundsoff.blogspot.com/2020/11/breaking-temple-news-groundbreaking_7.html?showComment=1605045376189#c5976981851297888584

As a matter of fact, right now, including the Syracuse Utah Temple, I have a total of 12 temples presently for which, based on feedback I've received, I'm watching for a groundbreaking announcement. And if the information I have received in that respect is correct, at least half of those could potentially have a groundbreaking before the April 2020 General Conference. I am still trying to sort through the latest information I have received to determine how much of it I can pass along in some form here, so I hope to have something posted in that respect, either as a new post or in the comments of a previously-published post ASAP. For any other readers of this blog who may want to read the specifics to which Jim Andersen and I are referring, you can find those details at the following web address:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/syracuse-utah-temple/news/

My thanks again to you, Jim Anderson, and to all other readers of this blog, for your continued interest and support, and for the conversations we enjoy about all such topics here.

  2. Hello again, everyone! The Church News has provided the following additional reports:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2020-11-18/just-serve-president-ballard-unity-service-198094

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2020-11-18/president-nelson-invitations-prophet-gather-israel-hear-him-covenant-path-198003

I should also mention that I continue to reevaluate information on temples to update the many documents I have previously shared, but that process is somewhat slow-going and difficult to keep up the pace on since things often chnage once a day, or several times daily. But those updates are in progress. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. I will just add here that, because no exact dates have been noted relating to the groundbreakings for the Antofagasta Chile and Mendoza Argentina Temples, I anticipate that one or both of them may have groundbreakings either on Saturday November 28, or during the week prior to that, or in the remaining two days of the month.

It should also be noted that, as of today, no exact datees have been announced for the Harare Zimbabwe, Okinawa Japan, or Bengaluru India Temples, but that I anticipate that all of them may have a groundbreaking by no later than Saturday December 19, so that those events will not draw focus away from the Christmas and New Year's celebrations.

I have some additional thoughts on temples: new information leads me to believe that, in addition to the Syracuse Utah Temple, an artist's rendering and groundbreaking arrangements may be announced for the Salvador Brazil Temple within the next couple of weeks, and that groundbreakings could also be announced before the end of the year for the Pago Pago American Samoa, Neiafu Tonga, Port Moresby Papua New Guinea, and Phnom Penh Cambodia Temples.

It is also possible that announcements could be made within the next four months relative to the following additional temple: Tooele Valley Utah, (if the current issues halting its' progress can be resolved), Nairobi Kenya, Lagos Nigeria, and Managua Nicaragua.

There are a few other temples on whih I am keeping my eyes open for more information, but I am holding off on mentioning those by name until more information is made available to me.

    2. It is also worth noting that, as previously announced, President Nelson will be addressing the world tomorrow at 11:00 AM. More details, including information on how to watch that address, is available at the following web addresses:

    4. And from the Newsroom comes a report on how Latter-day Saints in Central America have provided humanitarian relief to those impacted by the recent hurricanes in that region:

My thanks once again to you all.

    5. Hello again, everyone! Updates have been provided on the Feather River California and Taylorsville Utah Temples:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/feather-river-california-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/taylorsville-utah-temple/

Also, in view of the latest updates that have been provided, if all goes well, a total of 24 temples (so far) could be dedicated in 2022 and 2023. That would average out to roughly two per month. And that's before we take into account the 6 temples for which ground will be broken before the end of the year, or before considering any of the 6-12 temples to which I referred in my reply to Jim Anderson's comment at the start of this thread. It therefore seems likely that the Church may have a minimum total of 200 operating temples either by the last third of 2023 or the first third of 2024. So it will be very interesting to me to see how all of that turns out.

That being said, I will be sure to pass along a report of President Nelson's address once any such reports are available tomorrow afternoon. Until that time, my thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
