BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Site Locations Announced and Preliminary Details Confirmed for Three Temples in the Western United Statles

Hello again, everyone! More breaking temple news has been reported by the Church this morning. The site locations and preliminary details have been confirmed for 3 temples in the Western United States. Each of the three were announced by President Nelson in last April's General Conference, and two of them will be a similar size to the Helena Montana Temple, so I'd anticipate on those two that the site announcements will be followed fairly shortly by released renderings and groundbreakings set to occur in coming months. Let's get to the details.

The Casper Wyoming and Elkn Nevada Temples are each planned to be 10,000 square foot edfices, which will be the sole buildings on the sites in question. The Casper temple will rise at a 9.5 acre site at the intersection of southwest Wyoming Boulevard and Eagle Drive. Meanwhile, the temple in Elko will be buillt adjacent to the southeast corner of Ruby View golf course.

Meanwhile, the tthird temple to have preliminary details unveiled is the Smithfield Utah Temple, which is planned to be a 3-story temple of roughly 81,000 square feet. It is planned to be built on a 13.3 acre site at the interxection of 800 West and 100 North. It appears that the Smithfield Temple will be around the same size as the Lindon Utah Temple, so the exterior rendering for Smithfield, when that is released, may look similar or identical to (or at least have some similar elementsx to) that temple.

Based on the timing of this announcement, it would not shock me in any way if all 3 temples were underway by the end of the year. And again, if swift approval can be obtained for the Casper Wyoming and Elko Nevada Temples, then theey might be likely to also use the modular design and be ready for dedication within 12-15 months of when those projects begin.

On my end, I continue to monitor all such updates and will be sure to bring word of those to you all here. That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

    1. Hey, Jim Anderson. Thank you for sharing that. I received a similar email on my end advising me that the Provo Utah Temple will also soon reopen under phase 3. That email didn't specify how soon Provo would reopen, but I just consulted the Church's official page for that temple, and proxy ordinances can now be scheduled there. Exciting news. Thanks again for sharing that.

  4. Have you heard anything about the Nairobi Kenya Temple? It's the last Pres Monson temple to be in the announced phase. I am surprised at the time delay and wondering if anyone's heard any whisperings.

    1. Hello, Kenny. I first saw your inquiry on this in the threads of the Church Growth Blog, so I figured you'd posted the question here as well. I'm happy to address that question. You are correct about the Nairobi Kenya Teme being the lasl temple remaining in the queue from the last set announced by President Monson. Roughly a year after that, President Nelson did his first Global Ministry Tour, which included stops in the two African nations (Zimbabwe and Kenya.

We know that both stops saw President Nelson looking at sites for both temples, and we also know that it wasn't unt the end of last year that Harare finally had groundbreaking. Additionally, we also know that full-scale construction is still pending for that temple, which seems to be the result of the more deadly strain of COVID-19 impacting so many African nations, and also that in some nations, full-scale construction of many religious facilities may involve the necessity of an agreed-upon bribe.

So my assumption is that either or both situations apply to both Harare and Nairobi. But we also additionally know, courtesy of information from the Church Public Affairs specialist, as he stated during the prophet's visit to Kenya, that the site had been acquired for that temple, that it was anticipated to be smaller and would be dedicated within 2 years of whenever construction can begin.

Given that the Harare temple was announced in April 2016 and that ground was broken for it last December, ground could very well be broken by the end of this year, if not sooner. Hope this info is helpful. I appreciate you asking about this here.

  5. Hello again, everyone! The Newsroom and the Church News have confirmed that the groundbreaking for the Syracuse Utah Temple took place as scheduled this morning:

    https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/syracuse-utah-temple-groundbreaking

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/temples/2021-06-12/groundbreaking-syracuse-utah-temple-churchs-38th-under-construction-216043

Elder Kevin R. Duncan, the Executive Director of the Church Temple Department, presided at the event, and Elder Dean M. Davies, also a General Authority Seventy, was in attendance as well. Brother Brent Roberts, managing director of the Church's Special Projects Division, noted that preliminary site work had been completed prior to the groundbreaking, that full-scale construction will begin for that temple within the next week or so, and that if all goes well and according to the planned duration of the construction process, it will take roughly two years from start to finish. But since some delays may occur, until it is further along, that temple joins the San Pedro Sula Honduras, Deseret Peak Utah, and Tallahassee Florida Temples with a general completion estimate of late 2024+early 2024.

    1. Continuing with other Church News updates, the following reports speak for themselves:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2021-06-12/music-and-the-spoken-word-pandemic-opportunity-for-excellence-215880

Additionally, the Church News has shared the final biography of the 8 total that have introduced the General Authority Seventies called last April with a featured article about Elder Vaiangina (Vai) Sikahema:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2021-06-12/vai-sikahema-general-authority-seventy-football-byu-philadelphia-nfl-215919

Among the insights I gleaned from that article, two stood out to me: First, that President Nelson personally extended that call to Elder Sikahema (the first time it's been specifically mentioned that the prophet himself extended that calling. Above and beyond that, Elder Sikahema's calling makes him the first native Tongan called as a General Authority Seventy.

My thanks once again to you all.

  7. Hello again, everyone! At some point yesterday afternoon/evening, the Church News noted a new report I had not shared here, which has bearing on other reports shared today. Yesterday, in his ward's Sacrament Meeting, Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve, alongside his fellow apostle, Elder Gerrit W. Gong, who were accompanied by a member of the Relief Society General Advisory Council and NAACP President Derrick Johnson, offered brief remarks highlighting the relationship between the Church and the NAACP, during which the leaders noted that the Church would announce new cooperative efforts today:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2021-06-13/naacp-president-derrick-johnson-lds-ward-elder-rasband-gong-216102

This morning, those efforts were officially confirmed by Church President Russell M. Nelson, who was accompanied by his respective First and Second Counselors, Presidents Dallin H. Oaks and Henry B. Eyring, Elder Rasband and his apostolic seatmate, Elder Gary E. Stevenson, and Elder Jack N. Gerard, a General Authority Seventy who chairs the Church Communications Department, and 8 leaders from the NAACP and UNCF entities. Here are the reports on that:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2021-06-14/first-presidency-naacp-announce-education-humanitarian-initiatives-216156

I may have some temple updates to provide, and if I do, those will be published later this afternoon. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    1. Updates have been provided for the Yogo Guam, McAllen Texas, Orem Utah, and Columbus Ohio Temples:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/orem-utah-temple/

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/columbus-ohio-temple/

It's also worth noting that the McAllen Texas Temple has made enough progress to the point that its completion estimate has been adjusted from early 2023 to late 2022-early 2024, as a result of which it has moved up on the queue to be between the Bentonville Arkansas and Brasilia Brazil temples.

My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
