BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: First 37 Temples Will Gradually Return to Normal Operations (Phase 4)

Hello again, everyone! This just in from the Church News: the first 37 temples will gradually return to phase 4 (normal operations). The Memphis Tennessee Temple was the first to do so, starting that process on March 17; followed by the St. Paul Minnesota Temple on March 19; the Bismarck North Dakota, Denver Colorado, and Winter Quarters Nebraska Temples on March 29; the Tucson Arizona Temple on April 4; and the Columbia South Carolina and Kansas City Missouri Temples on April 5.

As of yesterday (April 11), the following temples are also phasing in a return to normal operations: Cedar City, Draper, Jordan River, Monticello, Mount Timpanogos, Oquirrh Mountain, Payson, Provo, Provo City Center, and Vernal Utah; Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, and São Paulo Brazil; Frankfurt and Freiberg Germany; Redlands and San Diego California; Bern Switzerland; Laie Hawaii; Portland Oregon; and Stockholm Sweden. And today, the Billings Montana and Chicago Illinois Temples began the transition to phase 4.

Effective today, 8 temples are closed for major renovations, all of which are in phase 3; 1 (Kyiv Ukraine) has operations paused/suspended having reached phase 3 previously; 1 more is operating in phase 1; 0 are in phases 2 and 2-B; 123 are now in phase 3; and, as noted, the remaining 37 are gradually returning to regular operations. These updates are reflected in the temple reopening status tracker.

I have a feeling more temples will begin the transition to normal operations in the coming weeks. I will keep my eyes open for those updates, and all other major Church news and temple developments. In the meantime, that does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such feedback offered is consistent with the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

And an update from the Church in the last few days indicates that Church President Russell M. Nelson and his wife, Sister Wendy W. Nelson, will be the featured speakers at the May 2022 Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults, which is set to take place on Sunday May 15, 2022:

And the Church has also announced a special broadcast for all who have callings to teach in the Church and in the home. That broadcast, which will occur on Sunday June 12. Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who serves as chairman of the Church's Priesthood and Family Executive Council will provide instruction about teaching in the Savior's way:

If there are any new temple updates, I will share those here later this evening. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

  2. Today, I am pleased to report that President Nelson is officially the oldest-living prophet in Church history, as confirmed by the Church News this morning:

    https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders-and-ministry/2022-04-14/president-nelson-now-oldest-president-of-the-church-of-jesus-christ-of-latter-day-saints-250535

However, he is not yet the oldest living apostle. He won't reach that milestone until August 7 of this year, when his lifespan will then be longer than that of David B. Haight. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. The Newsroom also covered this development, and that coverage included quotes from his wife, one of his daughters, and one of his grandsons, his counselors, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and one or two friends of other faiths. My thanks once again to you all.

Sorry about that oversight. New information from the Church indicates that the groundbreakings for the temples in Grand Junction Colorado and Lindon Utah (which will take place this Saturday and next Saturday) will both be held at 11:00 AM MDT:

    3. The Church News has featured the biographies for 3 new temple presidents:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/callings/2022-04-14/new-temple-presidents-and-matrons-quito-ecuador-dallas-texas-nashville-tennessee-250395

As the link above shows, today's announcement pertains to the first leaders of the Quito Ecuador Temple and the new leaders for the Dallas Texas and Nashville Tennessee Temples. Interestingly, the article notes that the couples called to lead the work in the final two temples will begin serving in September, and that the leaders for the Quito Ecuador Temple will begin serving "later". If their service is not beginning in September, that implies that the earliest the Quito dedication is anticipated to occur is during the final quarter of this year. But there is a chance that the Church could hold off on dedicating that temple until early next year as well. It'll be interesting to see what happens there.

On my list tracking the new temple presidents who have been called, there are 2 temples anticipated to be completed in late 2022 for which the first leaders have not yet been identified: Lima Peru Los Olivos and Bentonville Arkansas. I have 9 other temples on my list for which the first leaders could be announced in the next 10 months. 4 other temples for which announced renovations affected the tenure length of the current presidents will likely not have new leaders called for the next year or two. And the leaders of 2 additional temples (Detroit Michigan and Port-au-Prince Haiti) have served for 3 years but will not be released this year.

Bearing in mind the March 25 announcement from the First Presidency indicating that 72 temples would be getting new leaders this year, 10 of those 72 couples have not yet been featured. And with biographies featured for the 3 incoming temple leader couples today, the total number of temples which have had new presidents featured this year now totals 62:

An updated chart showing the changes in general Church leadership (including the new GA Seventies) for April 2022 has been released. Please note that the chart still shows the Primary and Relief Society General Presidencies as presently consistituted, since the new leaders of those organizations won't start serving until August 1 of this year. And one other Church News report speaks for itself:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/global/2022-04-15/jaen-peru-flooding-church-donates-food-water-250771

And with this Friday comes the weekly publication of "This Week on Social":

The general Church leaders featured in the latest edition include: Elders Dieter F. Uchtdorf, David A. Bednar, and Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (from the latter of whom two posts were shared); Sister Reyna I. Aburto, Second Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency; Young Women Gneral Presidet Sister Bonnie H. Cordon and her First Counselor, Sister Michelle D. Craig (from the latter of whom two posts were shared); Sister Susan H. Porter, the current First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency who will become the General President thereof on August 1; and Brother Bradley R. (Brad) Wilcox, Second Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency.

My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
