BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Groundbreaking Set for the Montpelier Idaho Temple; Site Location and Preliminary Details Confirmed for the Maceio Brazil Temple

Hello again, everyone! As I mentioned a few minutes ago, there was no new temple update at 2:00. However, here we are at around 2:30, and such an update has been published. The First Presidency has announced the groundbreaking arrangements for the Montpelier Idaho Temple and the site location and initial details for the Maceió Brazil Temple. Let's get right into the details:

Ground will be broken for the Montpelier Idaho Temple on Saturday, June 17, 2023, with Elder Ryan K. Olsen, a GA Seventy, presiding. An official rendering for the temple, and additional details about the groundbreaking, will be released closer to that time. By way of review, the Montpelier Idaho Temple was announced in April 2022, with the site location and initial details confirmed just 1 month later.

As for the Maceió Brazil Temple (which was also announced in April of last year), the single-story 19,000-square-foot temple will rise at the location of  Avenida — Dr. Durval de Góis Monteiro, S/N, Quadra 0522, Lote 0228. Project leaders will work with government officials through the planning and approvals process, and an exterior rendering will likely be released closer to the time of its groundbreaking.

I'm a little surprised about the timing for the Montpelier Idaho Temple groundbreaking. My assumption is that the Church wanted to lock in a date for the groundbreaking now and then do the work to ensure the approvals can go through so that the exterior rendering can then be released once it gets the go-ahead from the governmental leaders with whom the Church will work. I think this may be the first time (at least in a couple of decades) that the Church has set a groundbreaking for any temple without a rendering being simultaneously released or released before the groundbreaking is announced.

To get these two updates in the same announcement was exciting. It's interesting to see how these announcements have come about. I will likewise be curious to see how the scheduling of other groundbreakings, dedications, and rededications works in the months ahead. I am watching out for word on all of these updates and will do my best to pass word thereof along to you all here, in addition to all Church News and Newsroom updates as they cross my radar.

Between now and my next update, here is a revised copy of the document showing temples for which no official information has been announced. Of the 68 temples currently announced, 38 have not yet had any official information confirmed. If the First Presidency continues to announce preliminary information about other announced temples, either in conjunction with or separate from other temple construction announcements, those numbers are likely to change in the weeks ahead.

I look forward to seeing what other updates will be announced between now and the upcoming General Conference. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below.

    3. I noticed that the stone displaying Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple's name is read "Templo de Los Olivos Lima Peru". I wonder if that implies that there may be an error with the naming in English, especially since it is the only temple to have wording after the country, like the 2nd Guatemala City temple is named Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala, and not Guatemala City Guatemala Miraflores. Just a thought.

    4. Hey, Noah. The wording on the temple appears to be consistent with Spanish phrasing rules. But the temple in question appears to still have the same name in English, "Lima Peru Los Olivos", on the Church's official temple list. Based on that, unless and until a First Presidency announcement on that temple's opening arrangements indicates such a change, we'd probably be wise to assume the English name remains unchanged. Thanks for sharing this observation. I appreciate hearing from you.

    5. Here are two more Church News reports:

Also, it appears that there have been a couple of minor changes noted in the general estimates and completion order for temples under construction. The Church Temples site recently moved the Coban Guatemala Temple from its previous position (between the Casper Wyoming and Tallahassee Florida Temples, with Coban being the first temple with an anticipated completion of early 2024). The Coban Guatemala Temple now sits in the queue between the Abidjan Ivory Coast and Mendoza Argentina Temple, retaining the completion estimate of early 2024.

In addition to moving the Coban Guatemala Temple down, the Church Temples site has also moved the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple up in the queue. Although the Pittsburgh Temple most recently sat in the queue between San Pedro Sula Honduras and Salvador Brazil (all of which had a completion estimate of mid-2024, Pittsburgh now sits between the Deseret Peak Utah Temple (with a completion estimate of early-to-mid 2024) and the Auckland New Zealand Temple (with a completion estimate of mid-2024). Pittsburgh joins Deseret Peak Utah and the poineer-era Manti Utah Temple in sharing a general completion estimate of early-to-mid 2024.

As I have said previously, the one consient thing about temple construction is that the queue continues to change as developments do or do not occur. Here is the link to my document tracking these updates:

      https://docs.google.com/document/d/1L7HBLNZZTnlI4Dk8fpr3HZCf-wqkjUBcCCYqdxP7HRk/edit?usp=sharing

If there are any updates on the stuats of any temples currently under construction, undergoing renovation, or in planning and approval phases, I will try to pass those on later this evening. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

  2. Hello again, everyone! The last few days have been a little rough on me. In addition to symptoms of general illness, I have had more severe headaches as the result of drastic shifts in the barometric pressure. While these issues aren't anything I can't handle, they have demanded more of my time and focus and have kept me from being as on top of the reports I share as I customarily would be. So for today, I will allow the following additional reports from the Newsroom and the Church News to speak for themselves:

The incoming storms anticipated here in Utah should technically help me feel better. If I am able to do so, I will be sure to provide any new temple construction updates later today as my situation allows. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    1. I am still dealing with ongoing illness, which is why this is my first posted comment today. The Church News has provided 4 new reports on apostolic minnistry trips that are occurring this week:

Here is one more report about the Church's Youth Art and Music Festivals:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/members/2023/3/9/23623880/strive-to-be-music-arts-broadcast-call-for-submissions-worldwide-all-things-through-christ

And the Church has identified 4 new couples who will direct operations in 4 temmples worldwide. Included among those 4 are the first leaders for the Brasilia Brazil and Red Cliffs Utah Temples:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/callings/2023/3/9/23628910/new-temple-presidents-lubbock-texas-el-salvador-red-cliffs-brasilia-brazil

As always, each of the 4 couples featured today have served extensively as individuals and with their spouses in various Church assignments. The four incoming presidents include 2 fomer area seventies (1 now serving as a ward mission leader) and 2 current temple sealers (1 formerly served as a counselor in a temple presidency, while the other serves currently as a stake patriarch).

I have updated my list tracking these changes. That list now includes a minimum of 8 temples for which the first leaders might be called this year, at least 10 currently-operating temples for which new leaders may be called, and the list of 43 temples (so far) which have had new leaders announced:

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
