BREAKING NEWS: Church Announces Schedule for 2024 Churchwide Events

Hello again, everyone! The Church has announced the schedule for the 2024 Churchwide Events. Here are the relevant dates:

January 28: Worldwide Event for Youth: “I Am a Disciple of Jesus Christ”

February 4: Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults

February 29–March 2: RootsTech Family History Conference and Family Discovery Session

April 6–7: April 2024 General Conference

May 5: Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults

October 5–6: October 2024 General Conference

October 27: Worldwide Event for Youth

November 3: Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults

December 8: First Presidency’s Christmas Devotional

A few surprises: The Worldwide Devotionals for Young Adults have typically been held in January, May, and August (the beginning of each third of the year). This year, they will be in February, May, and November. Likewise, although the First Presidency's Christmas Devotionals are typically held on the first Sunday in December, next year, it will be on the second Sunday, which may mean that new temples could be dedicated on the first and third Sundays of next year. The schedule otherwise speaks for itself.

Other noteworthy events are scheduled as follows:

January 26: Seminaries and Institutes Annual Broadcast

March 1: Temple and Family History Leadership Instruction

March 9: Friend to Friend for Children

March 31: Easter Sunday

June 18: CES Religious Educators Conference

June 20–23: Seminar for New Mission Leaders

July 19–20: Tabernacle Choir Summer Concert

August 10: Youth Music and Arts Festival

September 14: Friend to Friend for Children

November TBD: Seminaries and Institutes Annual Broadcast

November TBD:  Luz de Las Naciones

November 16: Church Music Festival from Temple Square

December 12–14: Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert at Temple Square

December 25: Christmas Day

Interestingly, there are two Seminaries and Institutes Annual Broadcasts scheduled next year, whereas there has typically been only one. There is also a CES Religious Educator's Conference, which I assume may allow several general Church leaders to provide training and counsel to seminary and institute instructors.

I'm also fascinated that the Church has scheduled both a Youth Music and Arts Festival and a Church Music Festival, which I assume will be for all Church members. Although it was not specified, I assume that on Easter Sunday and the Sunday before Christmas, it will be Sacrament Meeting only. And I think we could potentially see a couple other Churchwide broadcasts as well.

Looking ahead to 2024, I also wanted to put out a fun teaser of my own plans ahead for 2024. I have compiled a 2024 schedule showing content I will focus on in the new year. We will have several more apostolic milestones next year, as the current First Presidency will join the list of the longest-serviung First Presidencies and observe several milestones related to their tenure, unless there are forthcoming changes in the First Presidency that would prevent that.

So there will be a lot to look forward to in the next 14 months.  I continue to monitor any and all Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples updates and will be sure to pass word of those along to you all as they cross my radar. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Please subscribe if you liked what you read here and would like to be informed of newly added posts and comments. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

    2. On this Friday, the Newsroom and the Church News have shared the 2024 Youth Theme. FamilySearch has helped people at a book fair in Frankfurt to find their families. And the Church has recently helped to restore an African-American schoolhouse in Louisiana.

The Church News has also shared reports on BYU-Provo Cross-Country runners, how poultry production is helping with self-reliance in Ethiopia, remarks by Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson to the S. J. Quinney College of Law, and that summaries and videos from the General Conference Leadership Session have been released to Church members to use as a resource for the first time.

One final report is the latest edition of "This Week on Social". The newest installment in this weekly series included posts from the following general Church leaders: Church President Russell M. Nelson and his First Counselor, President Dallin H. Oaks; Elders Dieter F. Uchtdorf, D. Todd Christofferson, Ronald A. Rasband, and Gerrit W. Gong, all of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson; Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman; the Primary General Presidency (Sisters Susan H. Porter, Amy A. Wright, and Tracy Y. Browning, who all shared the same post on their respective pages, and the latter two of whom (Sisters Wright and Browning) had unrelated posts featured as well); Sunday School General President Mark L. Pace and his Second Counselor, Brother Jan E. Newman; and Young Men General President Steven J. Lund. My thanks once again to you all.

    3. I have discovered an update on the Urdaneta Philippines Temple. The previous update noted that landscaping and interior work was being finalized. That part of the temple's status has been taken out, so the Urdaneta Philippines Temple now joins the Puebla Mexico and Layton and Taylorsville Utah Temple as the now 4 temples awaiting the announcement of opening arrangements. I am hopeful we get opening arrangements announced for at least the first 3 over the next 2-3 weeks. Also, the groundbreaking for the Fort Worth Texas Temple will occur at 9:00 AM MDT tomorrow, which will be 10:00 AM local time. I will have to watch that later. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

  2. On this Saturday, the Church News reported on Elder Ronald A. Rasband's meeting with Church leaders from the Bangkok Thailand Temple district. The Church News has also provided coverage on FamilySearch at the Frankfurt book fair, which I shared from the Newsroom yesterday. BYU administrators joined cadates from the Army ROTC in a helicopter ride from Provo to Camp Williams. And the text of the message that will be offered in English and Spanish for tomorrow's Music & the Spoken Word has also been provided.

Other than these updates, I am pleased to report that the groundbreaking for the Fort Worth Texas Temple took place this morning as scheduled. I caught a rebroadcast of that via Youtube. Apparently, due to excessive rainy conditions that made it precarious, they were unable to have a full turning of the soil, and the actual breaking of the ground by Elder Jose L. Alonso was not shown. A source has not yet verified this, but I will provide that when one becomes available. My thanks once again to you all.

  3. On this Sabbath Day, 8 new stake presidencies have been featured, President Nelson's many prophetic invitations have been reviewed. the latest edition of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review" recapped the top 9 developments reported within the last week, teachings from Church leaders and Biblical scholars about this week's "Come Follow Me" curriculum (which will focus on Hebrews 1-6) have been shared, the results of a BYU study about how religious hope strengthens families have been presented, and a new memorial that honors pioneers has reunited 2 family branches. Additionally, a new update has been noted on the Smithfield Utah Temple. Still no word on how soon the PDF version of the November 2023 Liahona might be available, but hopefully that happens sooner rather than later. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
