Final 2023 Temple Construction Progress Report

Hello again, everyone! As the final minutes of 2023 come to a close, we take a look back at the major progress made on temple construction in 2023. The highlights included 11 dedications and 2 rededications8 temple groundbreakings, and numerous site announcements and exterior renderings. There was also tremendous progress on temples in various phases of construction and renovation.

As a matter of review, here is what the temple construction program looked like as 2023 began, on the Saturday of the April 2023 General Conference, at the end of the first half of 2023, at the conclusion of the October 2023 General Conference weekend, and at the end of 2023. There has been tremendous progress in temple construction this year, and I've been privileged to track, report, and pass along all the updates.

As 2024 begins, my hope is for another year of double-digit dedications, double-digit groundbreakings, and many more updates in terms of site announcements, exterior renderings, and general progress updates. I have no doubt we've got significantly substantial updates coming down the pike, and I look forward to seeing that unfold and covering it all for you here.

I continue to monitor any and all Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples updates and will be sure to pass word of those along to you all as they cross my radar. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Please subscribe if you liked what you read here and would like to be informed of newly added posts and comments. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. Hello again, everyone! As promised, here are copies of my planned blog posts for 2023 and 2024. President Ballard's death and Elder Kearon's subsequent ordination means that the clock has reset for the Quorum of the Twelve milestones and overall apostolic milestones. But we will have some First Presidency tenure milestones to look forward to in 2024, so stay tuned for more on that. My next apostolic milestone update (the first one for 2024) will be shared next Sunday.

Barring anything unexpected, I don't anticipate any major temple construction announcements being shared until next week. But if anything is shared, you can count on my covering it here. My thanks once again to you all for your continued interest and ongoing support this past year. Looking forward to much more ahead in 2024. May the Lord bless you all in everything you do.

    5. The Church News has also reported that members and missionaries in Japan are safe following a recent earthquake. Also, an update to the second part of the temple construction recap for 2023 now indicates that, a week after Elder Christofferson dedicates the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple, he will also dedicate the Orem Utah Temple. I have updated my document tracking apostolic temple dedications under President Nelson accordingly. My thanks once again to you all.

    4. Although no other temple construction status updates have been noted, the Church Temples site has noted another change in the queue. While the Yorba Linda California, Montpelier Idaho, and Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temples are all still anticipated to be completed in early 2026, the latter temple has moved ahead of the former two in the queue. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. In other Church News today, the music video for the 2024 youth theme has been released ahead of the full 2024 youth theme album; the Church News has shared how primary teachers and youth leaders can use the consolidated and combined "Come Follow Me" manual. And the latest edition of "This Week on Social" has also been published.

Those leaders whose content was featured in the latest edition included: Church President Russell M. Nelson; Elders Dieter F. Uchtdorf, David A. Bednar, and Neil L. 2. On this Saturday, the Church News has shared a few updates: today is the birthday of Sister Amy A. Wright, First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency; Brother Bradley R. (Brad) Wilcox, First Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency, shares ways to learn and teach about the youth theme; and the text of the message that will be delievered this Sunday as part of the English and Spanish versions of "Music & the Spoken Word" has been shared. 3. The Church News has published a complete list of speakers at each Church-owned school's devotionals. And a new update on the Salta Argentina Temple indicates that open house coordinators have been called, which hopefully means an announcement of opening arrangements is forthcoming for that temple. I fully anticipate Casper's arrangements will be the next announcement, followed by the arrangements for Salta Argentina and Coban Guatemala, then Taylorsville. So Casper may be the only other dedication we see in the first half of this year. Salta, Coban, and Taylorsville may follow in August/September. But I'm hoping that the dedication announcements will pick up during the second half of the year. My thanks once again to you all.

    4. And interestingly enough, the open house coordinators have also been called for the Mendoza Argentina Temple as well. My thanks once again to you all.

The latest edition of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review" recapped the top 9 developmements reported by the Church News within the last week. And, with the "Come Follow Me" Cuirriculum focused on 1 Nephi 1-7 this week, the Church News shared what has been said about those passages by Church leaders and scholars. In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
