UPDATED: Current Apostolic Data

Hello again, everyone! It has been a tradition on this blog for me to provide updates on apostolic data every 7 weeks. Having last done so on Sunday, April 14, it is time to publish the newest such data. As with every two-part update, the first part contains updated data about the age and tenure length records for all 17 Church Presidents, in addition to updated information on the tenure lengths for each of the 28 Presidents of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

The first document likewise notes information on the tenure length rankings for three sets of apostolic groups: the longest-serving First Presidencies (with the current First Presidency now moving up on that list), in addition to the longest-serving groups of members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and groups of all ordained apostles (the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles), and an overview of when each of those current groups will move up on the list.

Meanwhile, the second part of today's update shows the long-form and decimal ages for the members of the current First Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and the same data for the combined First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, in addition to the average ages of each group and apostolic nonagenarians (with 3 of the current 15 apostles being on that list), and a final table showing the remaining time between today and when each of the other 12 apostles will become nonagenarians and join that list. With these updates coming every 7 weeks, the next update will be posted here on the morning of Sunday, September 8, the same day on which I will be publishing a birthday tribute to Elder Quentin L. Cook..

Hopefully, this post is of interest to you all. Again, I offer an open invitation to ask anyone who has any questions about those documents to ask them here. I continue to monitor any and all Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples updates and will be sure to pass word of those along to you all as they cross my radar. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Please subscribe if you liked what you read here and would like to be informed of newly added posts and comments. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

    3. The Church Temples site has noted several changes to the queue of temples under construction or undergoing renovation. This document shows where things stood yesterday (June 6), while this document shows where those general estimates now stand. For those who would prefer a summary of the updates in question, they are as follows:

The estimate for the Antofagasta Chile Temple has shifted down from mid-2024 to mid-to-late 2024. Likewise, the Auckland New Zealand Temple shifted down from mid-to-late 2024 to late 2024. And the Fort Worth Texas Temple, previously estimated to be completed in mid-to-late 2026, is now estimated to be the first one completed in late 2026. As I believe I have already noted, the completion estimate for the Salt Lake Temple was recently adjusted from a generic 2026 to late 2026.

And as I have previously stated, I have heard rumors to the effect that the Salt Lake Temple open house may last for 18-24 months at minimum, followed by a series of rededicatory sessions spanning several weeks. If that is the case, then the Salt Lake Temple may only reopen sometime in 2029. Anyways, those are the updates. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. A Latter-day Saint runner has been named a finalist for a national award. A new Church News video features Elder D. Todd Christofferson fondly reminiscing about his mission and one of his mission presidents (Richard G. Scott, who was also Elder Christofferson's fellow apostle from the latter's call in 2008 to the former's death in 2015). And the Church News also covered the Newsroom update about Sister Yee that I shared yesterday.

      Last but not least, the latest edition of "This Week on Social" was published, featuring content shared by the following general Church leaders: Church President Russell M. Nelson, Presidents Dallin H. Oaks and Henry B. Eyring, his respective First and Second Counselors, and Acting President Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (each of whom shared a tribute to the prophet as his 100th birthday approaches);

Elders David A. Bednar, D. Todd Christofferson, Neil L. Andersen, and Ronald A. Rasband, also of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson; Sister Andrea Munoz Spannaus, Second Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency (via Young Women Worldwide); Primary General President Susan H. Porter and her respective First and Second Counselors, Sisters Amy A. Wright and Tracy Y. Browning; and Brother Michael T. Nelson, Second Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency. My thanks once again to you all.

    2. While no new temple construction status updates have been provided today, the Church Temples site has switched the Burley Idaho and Syracuse Utah Temples, and has switched their estimates. The Burley Idaho Temple is now anticipated to be completed in early 2025, with the Syracuse Utah Temple anticipated to be completed in early-to-mid 2025. Also, a news release on the Spanish Newsroom page now indicates that the groundbreaking for the Santa Cruz Bolivia Temple will take place at 4:00 PM Bolivia time, which is 2:00 PM MDT. My thanks once again to you all.

    3. On this Saturday, with the groundbreaking for the Santa Cruz Bolivia Temple less than an hour away, the Church News has provided a few new updates: 4 charts show the Church's growth in 2023; a new article introduces new GA Seventy Christopher H. Kim; Elder Ulisses Soares ministered in Mongolia and Japan; and the text of the message that was written by Lloyd Newell and will be given in English and Spanish during tomorrow's "Music & the Spoken Word" broadcast.

Just a couple of notes on this report: As I observed in a comment earlier today on the latest thread of the Church Growth Blog, the report about Elder Soares does not, to me, suggest that he has oversight for the Asia North Area. I wish the Church was more transparent in regards to apostolic assignments. And the other note on the above reports is that tomorrow marks the second-to-last week that Lloyd Newell will deliver the "Spoken Word" during the Choir broadcast. The week after next, that message will be written and delivered by the "new voice" of the Choir, Brother Derrick Porter. My thanks once again to you all.

    5. On the eve of the dedication of the Coban Guatemala Temple, the Church News has provided a review of the history of the Church in Guatemala, including the apostolic promise that there would be temples in Guatemala City, Quetzeltenango, and Coban. When the Coban Guatemala Temple is dedicated tomorrow, it will become the 193rd temple in operation.

I have mentioned before (including in this very thread) my feeling that the Church will have at least 300 temples operating by April 6, 2030 (the bicentennial anniversary of the Church's reestablishment). With 107 temples left to be dedicated in the 5.82 years between tomorrow and the aforementioned date, the Church could reach that goal if roughly 18.38 temples are dedicated per year. That average will go down further with each temple dedication, and that's especially true of next week, when 2 temples will be dedicated on the same day. So there's no doubt in my mind that the Church could easily make (and might even exceed) such a goal by the date in question. I will be sure to pass along reports on today's groundbreaking for the Santa Cruz Bolivia Temple and tomorrow's dedication of the Coban Guatemala Temple as those updates cross my radar. My thanks once again to you all.

    7. The latest edition of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review" recapped the top 9 developments covered by the Church News this week. As the 100th birthday of our beloved prophet is now exactly 3 months away, the Church News has updated its' article sharing the prophetic invitations President Nelson has given since January 2018. And you can read what Church leaders have said about Alma 5-7, which is the "Come Follow Me" reading for this week. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
