Hello again, everyone! This afternoon, the First Presidency released the next major temple construction announcement: an exterior rendering for the Colorado Springs Colorado Temple. The release of this rendering follows the announcement of that temple in October 2023 and the site confirmation and preliminary details being released just six months ago, in November of last year.
The rendering largely speaks for itself. I currently estimate (based on recent trends) that the groundbreaking for this temple may likely occur early next year at latest, but certainly sooner if approvals go through quickly. I am grateful this update was announced today, and am happy to have been able to cover it here.
Stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now.
All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as all such feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below.

The Church News also covered today's temple update, in addition to two other reports, which speak for themselves. My thanks once again to you all.
ReplyDeleteOn this Tuesday, the Church News has shared three new reports. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Wednesday, the Syracuse Utah Temple open house officially began with a media day, at which Sister Kristin M. Yee, Second Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency (and meber of the Temple and Family History Executive Council) and Elder Kevin R. Duncan (currently Executive Director of the Temple Department and incoming member of the Presidency of the Seventy) were in attendance. The Church News also provided one other report, which speaks for itself. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThe Newsroom has shared one additional report, with a corresponding report subsequently published by the Church News. The Church News also shared one other report, which speaks for itself. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Thursday, the Newsroom shared two new reports, in addition to a statement from the First Presidency upon the announcement of a new pope for the Catholic Church. The Church News also covered that statement about Pope Leo XIV, in addition to providing updated resources about President Nelson's talk from the April 2025 General Conference, and updates about YSA conferences in North America; finding strength and rest through Jesus Christ; updates from both Bolivia and Mexico. In another development, the PDF versions of the May 2025 Church magazines are now available. At some point this weekend (tomorrow-Sunday), I will be posting my documents and the analysis thereof relating to the April 2025 General Conference. For now, my thanks once again to you all.
ReplyDeleteOn this Friday, the Church News highlighted 7 recent examples of medical donations the Church has made around the world. Interfaith Easter celebrations were held across 5 Pacific Island nations. Church donations have benefited thousands across the Central American nations of Guatemala. And the latest edition of "This Week on Social" has also been published.
DeleteThe latest installment featured social media content from the following general leaders: Elders David A. Bednar, and Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson; Sunday School General President Paul V. Johnson (in his first such post via the Gospel Learning and Teaching page); and Brother Bradley R. (Brad) Wilcox, the outgoing First Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency.
Above and beyond those updates, the Newsroom has created a homepage for social media posts about mothers (in honor of Mothers' Day coming up on Sunday). The first such post comes from President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency. My thanks once again to you all.
Construction status updates have been provided recently for the Montpelier Idaho, Belo Horizonte Brazil, Cody Wyoming, and Grand Rapids Michigan Temples. Above and beyond those updates, it's worth noting that the groundbreaking for the Lagos Nigeria Temple will take place at 3:00 AM MDT here in Utah, which is 10:00 AM Nigeria time. It's also worth noting that public tours will be underway on the Syracuse Utah Temple starting tomorrow and continuing through the next 3 weeks, excluding the relevant Sundays. On Monday, the media is invited to tour the Antofagasta Chile Temple, with public tours starting on Wednesday. So it will be a jam-packed few days for temple updates. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteHaving watched the groundbreaking service for the Lagos Nigeria Temple, I can officially confirm that it happened as announced. On a separate temple related matter, do you have any thoughts as to who will take over the temple department in August when Elder Duncan joins the Presidency of the Seventy?
ReplyDeleteHey, Scott! Thanks for stopping by to comment. I appreciated your unofficial confirmation about the Lagos Nigeria Temple groundbreaking halving taken place and I hope that will shortly be officially confirmed by either the main Newsroom page and/or the African Newsroom page. As to your question about who might potentially succeed Elder Kevin R. Duncan as the Executive Director of the Temple Department, I'd assume either any of the current Assistant Executive Directors, or possibly one of the many GA Seventies who are returning to Church headquarters following the conclusion of their service in area presidencies outside the US (which would include any of the counselors in the 5 area presidencies in the United States). I had thought I remembered reading a Church News article about the Temple Department, but I may be mistaken, as I haven't been able to find it. Both the Temple and Family History Departments are losing their Executive Directors this year, so it will be interesting to see who the new Executive Directors will be.
DeleteOn a separate note, I should probably add that I suspect that a majority of the newest GA Seventies who are not serving abroad are likely to be tapped as Assistant Executive Directors of the Family History, Missionary, and Temple Departments. The Temple Department in particular appears to be understaffed leadership wise, which could explain the higher number of GA Seventies called in April. A question for you: which GA Seventies are, in your opinion, most likely to speak in October (a rough guesstimate would be fine), and how many of the 17 new GA Seventies are likely to speak? I'm drafting my initial predictions for October, and am personally currently projecting 5 veteran GA Seventies and 9 of the 16 newest GA Seventies (14 in total). If you have any preliminary thoughts on which GA Seventies are most likely to speak, I'd welcome your insights. Thank you, Scott, for taking time to comment. I always appreciate hearing from you.
On this Staurday, the Newsroom has updated the page for Mothers' Day social media content with a post by Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The wording of that release has been updated to clarify that those posts will be featured throughout the month of May, and not just through the weekend like I thought. I apologize if that was misunderstood on my part.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, aside from that Newsroom report, as noted above, we have unofficial confirmation that the groundbreaking for the Lagos Nigeria Temple took place as scheduled early this morning Utah time (around 9:00 AM Nigeria time). And with no other updates from the Newsroom, and no new temple construction updates, we move on to the Church News updates. I may have forgotten to share this update from yesterday.
Then today, the Church News provided a study help for the April 2025 General Conference talk by President Jeffrey R. Holland; provided an introduction to new GA Seventy Elder Ronald M. Barcellos; highlighted diverse Easter celebrations in Mexico; shared the text of the message that will be given by Brother Derrick Porter during tomorrow's "Music & the Spoken Word"; shared an update on recovery efforts from the California wildfires; and >a href="https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2025/05/10/vanuatu-samoa-papua-new-guinea-water-donation-south-pacific-islands/" >clean water donations for the Pacific. My thanks once again to you all.
Sorry. I messed up that last link. Here is the correct link. My apologies for the oversight, and my thanks once again to you all.
ReplyDeleteThe Church Mews has shared one additional report. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteHappy Mothers' Day to all my female readers out there, to whom the title of mother can dn should be applied wiether or not you have been blessed with children. The Church News republished this article from last year, which highlights videos to watch on Mother's Day, each of which focus on motherhood, including how Jesus Christ felt about, treated, and cared for his own mother. I will try to keep my comments to a minimum tomorrow, to allow you all to focus on your on the women in your lives. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteA construction status update has been reported on the Orlando Florida Temple. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Mothers' Day, the Newsroom has updated the social media posts honoring mothers. Those updates now include posts from the following general Church leaders: Church President Russell M. Nelson and his Second Counselor, President Henry B. Eyring; Elders David A. Bednar and Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson; Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman; and Primary General President Susan H. Porter.
DeleteMeanwhile, from the Church News comecounsel on this report shared yesterday that I might not have mentioned here; another report released early this morning that speaks for itself; resources and ideas for teaching from Sister Johnson's General Conference talk from last month; the callings of 34 stake presidencies (7 for new stakes, and the remainder for existing stakes); "This Mothers' Day on Social" (which is a virtual carbon copy of the Newsroom release to which I referred earlier); the top 9 developments from the last week in the latest edition of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review"; teachings from Church leaders and others about D&C 46-48, the focus of our "Come, Follow Me" study this week; and how the Church is supporting women worldwide.
And some shifts have been made in the temple construction queue, as reflected in this document. My thanks once again to you all.
It's also worth noting that the general completion estimate for the Orlando Florida Temple has been updated from 2025-2026 to now just being in 2026, so it is unlikely that we will see that temple reopen this year. Barring anything unexpected, this will be my final comment here today. Hope you all had a Happy Mothers' Day. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Monday, the Church News has shared two new reports. The next major temple construction announcement is expected to be announced during the upcoming 2:00 PM MDT hour here in Utah. The media day for the Antofagasta Chile Temple was set to occur today, but the Newsroom has not yet shared a report on both that and the groundbreaking for the Lagos Nigeria Temple, so those two updates may be the only temple construction updates we get this week. But if anything else new is reported I will share it here in a new post ASAP . For now, my thanks once again to you all.
