Hello again, everyone! This afternoon, the First Presidency set a groundbreaking for the Wellington New Zealand Temple, and also announced that the McKinney Texas Temple will be renamed the Fairview Texas Temple. While the latter development primarily speaks for itself, let's get down to the details about the Wellington New Zealand Temple.
The Wellington New Zealand Temple had a site announced in late November 2022. An exterior rendering was initially released in mid-June of last year and was included in today's announcement of its groundbreaking. As for the groundbreaking itself, that will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, under the direction of Elder Taniela B. Wakolo, the First Counselor in the Pacific Area presidency.
The "two-story temple of approximately 14,900 square feet and an ancillary building with arrival facilities and patron housing" will likely take 2-3 years to construct once full-scale construction begins. And given the slower pace at which the latest temples have gone from groundbreaking to full-scale construction, it could be around 4-6 weeks after the groundbreaking occurs before full-scale construction begins. I hope I'm wrong on that, but time alone will tell.
Aside form the renaming of the McKinney Texas Temple to the Fairview Texas Temple (which was one of the conditions proposed by the planning and zoning commission for the city council approval process), today's news release confirmed the new exterior rendering as official, and that the temple will be built "on an 8.16-acre site located along Stacy Road adjacent to and east of an existing meetinghouse at 651 East Stacy Road, in Fairview, Texas."
The revised plans for the temple are for a single-story edifice of 30,742 square feet. This marks the second name change for this temple. It was initially announced as the Prosper Texas Temple before being changed to the McKinney Texas Temple, and it will now be the Fairview Texas Temple. Hopefully, the latest concessions agreed upon between the Church and the city will allow city council approval to be granted in an expedited manner.
Those revised plans go before the Fairview City Council tomorrow. If they are approved, especially in light of the concessions made, a groundbreaking announcement for Texas's next temple may be forthcoming as well. Sorry. I droned on longer about that temple than I meant to. Anyways, I am grateful for today's announcements.

ReplyDeleteHey, Chris! Thanks for your comment. You are a longtime friend and frequent commenter on this blog, which I also appreciate. Hope all is well with you, and thanks again for stopping by to comment.
DeleteHere is my updated side-by-side comparisonof temple groundbreakings last year vs. this year. As you can see, the current tenth temple groundbreaking this year (the one just announced in Wellington New Zealand) is occurring almost 4 weeks sooner than the tenth groundbreaking in 2024. And I still think it's probable that a few US temples could be slipped into that queue before ground is broken in Wellington. My thanks once again to you all.
ReplyDeleteThe Church News has also covered the updates for the Wellington New Zealand and the now-renamed Fairview Texas Temples. But the Church News also shared their coverage of the Lethbridge Alberta Temple groundbreaking and a summary of remarks by Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to BYU-Idaho students. My thanks once again to you all.

DeleteA few hours ago, the Fairview Town Council approved a conditional use permit for the Fairview Texas Temple with conditions. Those conditions include: no more than 44 feet 7 inches for the roof and facade and 120 feet for the steeple and spire, that the floor area may not exceed 30,742 square feet, that the exterior lighting must be turned off between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m, and other conditions relating to lighting brightness and sewer connections. Since I think the Church wants to do what it can to move this project forward, I'm sure those conditions will be met, Hopefully the acceptance of these conditions will allow the temple to move forward. My thanks once again to you all.

DeleteOn this Friday, I have had some other priorities that needed my attention, which is why I am just now posting the latest updates from the Church News and the Newsroom. The Church News reported on how the women of the legendary Six Triple Eight World War II unit received congressional medals in recognition of their contributions during that conflict. The Church News also covered Sister Tracy Y. Browning's participation in the National Day of Prayer, which was covered by the Newsroom yesterday. The Newsroom reported on a tragic accident that claimed the life of a young missionary who had only been out in the mission field for a few months. KSL also reported on this development in their newscasts today, and those broadcasts also detailed the efforts made by a witness to the accident to save the life of that missionary. One other missionary only sustained minor injury and a third missionary was unharmed.
DeleteThe Church News also detailed the aid the Church has provided for those impacted by a recent earthquake in Myanmar. (That update was also covered by the Newsroom yesterday). The latest edition of "This Week on Social" was also published, featuring social media content from the following general Church leaders:
Elders David A. Bednar (whose post was shared on "Gospel Learning and Teaching", one of the new pages launched by the previous Sunday School General Presidency), D. Todd Christofferson, Neil L. Andersen, and Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson (from whom two posts were shared) and her First Counselor, Sister J. Anette Dennis; Sister Andrea Munoz Spannaus, Second Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency; and outgoing Young Men General President Steven J. Lund and his outgoing Second Counselor, Michael T. Nelson.
The and the Newsroom both summarized remarks given by Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles at the BYU-Provo Women's Conference. The Newsroom also published another report by way of reminder that Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson will be the featured speaker at this Sunday's "Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults. Two other Newsroom reports speak for themselves.
My thanks once again to you all.
The second-to-last paragraphs in my above comment should have read: "The Church News and the Newsroom" rather than "The and the Newsroom", and my links should have been adjusted accordingly. And the final sentence of the second-to-last paragraph of my comment above should have had this additional link on the words "Newsroom reports". Ordinarily, I'd delete the comment with these errors and fix them for use in a comment replacing the one deleted, but I'm not up for that hassle tonight.
DeleteIt is also worth mentioning that, as of my latest check just now, the PDF version of the May 2025 Liahona is not yet available. I am waiting until it is available to post the results of my General Conference predictions. I should also note that tomorrow is the last day of the Nairobi Kenya Temple open house, and that open house tours got underway for the Abidjan Ivory Coast Temple starting yesterday. Additionally, aside from the prospective dedication windows I mentioned yesterday, a status update has been shared for the Lindon Utah Temple.I am scanning for other temple updates and will be sure to pass along any others as I can today and tomorrow. My thanks once again to you all.
I also wanted to mention that I'm a little surprised that we are now 4 weeks after the April 2025 General Conference, and that the Church News hasn't started their more in-depth individual articles for the new leaders sustained during General Conference (which included 16 new GA Seventies and the 3 incoming members of the new Young Men General Presidency). Hopefully those articles might begin to be released starting later today (Saturday). My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Saturday, the Church News has shared a total of four new reports. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAs this Sabbath Day draws to a close, the Newsroom and the Church News have summarized the Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults, which featured Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson. The The Church News also shared a total of four additional reports, which I will allow to speak for themselves. My thanks once again to you all.
