BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Opening Arrangements Announced for the Elko Nevada and Grand Junction Colorado Temples

Hello again, everyone! Since no major temple construction updates were reported yesterday, something might be shared today during the 2:00 PM hour here in Utah. And I was right. Opening arrangements have been set for the Elko Nevada and Grand Junction Colorado Temples. Let's get right into the details:

First up is the Elko Nevada Temple. A media day will be held on Wednesday, August 27, with VIP tours the following two days. The Newsroom release mistakenly notes that the VIP tours will be held Thursday, August 28, and Wednesday, August 29. Not sure how that happened.

The public is invited to tour the temple between Saturday, August 30, through Saturday, September 13, with the temple dedication following on Sunday, October 12, 2025, with Elder Gary E. Stevenson presiding over the single-session dedication.

Not sure why there is more than a month from the end of the open house to the dedication in question. As for the Grand Junction Colorado Temple, its media day will be held on Monday, September 8, with VIP tours following the next two days.

The public is invited to tour the temple from Thursday, September 11, through Saturday, September 27. The temple will be dedicated in a single session on Sunday, October 19, with President Jeffrey R. Holland, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, presiding. These timelines were further out than I thought they would be.

But I'm glad we got the news of these two temple dedications. I am grateful to have been able to report on these two important developments. Stay tuned here for updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now.

  1. The Church News also shared how personal preparation for the Second Coming was a focus in General Conference last weekend, an update on JustServe efforts in Utah, an update to the main page of the Church News general conference coverage, and a special edition of "This Week on Social" entiltled T"his Conference on Social" were also shared.

The latter update featured content from each of our 15 apostles: Church President Russell M. Nelson and his respective First and Second Counselors in the First Presidency, Presidents Dallin H. Oaks and Henry B. Eyring, Acting President Jeffrey R. Holland and Elders Dieter F. Uchtdorf, David A. Bednar, Quentin L. Cook, D. Todd Christofferson, Neil L. Andersen, Ronald A. Rasband, Gary E. Stevenson, Dale G. Renlund, Gerrit W. Gong, Ulisses Soares, and Patrick Kearon.

And the Newsroom highlighted which of our new hymns were sung by the three choirs that performed during General Conference weekend. My thanks once again to you all.

    3. As this Wednesday drawsto a close, the Newsroom has shared an Easter video, with the Church News also sharing a few new reports: the inspiring story of the very first senior single male missionary, some sage advice for Young Men from John Bytehway of the Young Men General Advisory Council, an article introducing the incoming Young Men General Presidency, Sister Amy A. Wright, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, sharing some wise counsel with missionaries at this week's MTC devotional, and the opening of registration for this year's Utah Area Young Single Adult Conference. I should add that I am hoping that new area leadership assignments will be announced either tomorrow, Friday, or on Thursday or Friday of next week, and that I had the thought that many of the new GA Seventies called in General Conference were brought on to serve in the Missionary or Temple Department, as there is much work for both departments to do.

Just another quick word about area leadership assignments. I am sort of hoping that other area changes are coming to the six areas that will now just cover the United States. I'm not sure why I have that hope. but it is something I considered with area leadership assignments. My thanks once again to you all.

    10. The completion estimate for the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple has shifted. Instead of being the last temple estimated for completion in late 2025-early 2026, it is now the last temple estimated to be completed in late 2025-early 2026, it is now the last temple estimated to be completed in late 2025. Insofar as I have been able to ascertain, there are no temple construction status updates to pass along at this time. However, this weekend marks the dedication of the Auckland New Zealand Temple by Elder Patrick Kearon. It is now around 3:30 PM on Saturday afternoon in New Zealand, so I'm sure Elder Kearon is there already. I will be sure to pass along any reports of that dedication as they are shared. In the meantime, my thanks once again to you all.

    12. On this Saturday, the Newsroom has shared this update, which has been added to the Newsroom's homepage for Easter updates. Meanwhile, the Church News has shared an Easter update as well, in addition to looking at the history of temples in the Pacific. As it is currently around 10:30 AM on Sunday in New Zealand, the dedication for the Auckland temple is now underway.

The Church News additionally reported on the creation of the first district of the Church in the African nation of Guinea, and has shared the text of the message that will be given during tomorrow's "Music & the Spoken Word". My thanks once again to you all.

    13. The Church Temples site has unofficially confirmed that the dedication for the Auckland New Zealand Temple took place as scheduled this Sunday. Once we have official sources confirming the dedication, I will be sure to add them here. Given that it is now 3:15 PM on Sunday in Auckland, the single-session dedication wrapped up several hours ago, so hopefully official confirmation will occur within the next 12-18 hours. My thanks once again to you all.

    2. I somehow forgot about the time differences in Auckland New Zealand and Nairobi Kenya vs. here in Utah. As a result of said time differences, the Pacific Newsroom has provided a report on the dedication of the Auckland New Zealand Temple, while Kenya's Newsroom has shared a report on the beginning of the open house for the Nairobi Kenya Temple. I imagine the main Newsroom will share those reports during the 2:00 PM hour today, which may be the major temple construction announcement for this week. But I hope for more information on other temples as well. Whatever happens there will be reported here at around that time. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    3. The Church News has covered the Nairobi Kenya Temple media day, while the Newsroom page tracking major temple news has been updated with that and the article about the Auckland New Zealand Temple. I am hoping that these updates are not the only ones we will get today, but I will be sure to post either a new comment here or (if needed) a new post ASAP at some point during the 2:00 PM MDT hour. In the meantime, my thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
