Hello again, everyone! In a very unexpected early morning announcement, the First Presidency confirmed the initial details for the Eket Nigeria Temple and released an exterior rendering for the Huntsville Alabama Temple. Let's get right down to the details:
The Eket Nigeria Temple, which was announced in October 2022, along with 17 others, will be a single-story edifice of approximately 18,850 square feet, which will rise on a 7-acre site at Eket/Oron Road in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. A new meetinghouse will also be built as part of the project. The Eket temple is one of six planned for Nigeria. Groundbreakings have been announced for the temples in Lagos and Benin City, while we await more official details for the temples in Calabar, Abuja, and Uyo.
The rendering for the Huntsville Alabama Temple largely speaks for itself. I will just add that it follows a site confirmation on January 25 of this year, and the temple's announcement in the October 2024 General Conference. Given the accelerated pace of the site announcement and now the exterior rendering, I would not be shocked if we had a groundbreaking for this temple later this year, though it might only happen early next year.
Stay tuned here for updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them. In the meantime, that does it for now.

I was wondering that even though Pope Francis is not of our faith but out of respect for a religous leader, if the First Presidency decided to delay the temple update yesterday. I was hoping we would see something today and we got two.
ReplyDeleteI wondered the same thing too, Chris. Either way, glad to see something announced today. I am pleasantly surprised by how fast the Huntsville temple is moving especially considering it was announced only just over 6 months ago! Hope we see some others move quickly as well.
DeleteI wondered the same thing. That might have been a factor. But my wife reminded me that yesterday was Easter Monday, celebrated by some religions as a part of Easter weekend, so that may have been more of a factor in this ad well. My personal feeling is that it's probably both. Thanks for stopping by to comment, Chris.. I always appreciate hearing from you.
DeleteEric, sorry I didn't see your comment until after I had replied to Chris. I agree that I'm impressed by how fast the Huntsville Alabama Temple is moving up the queue. I definitely think it is probable that we will see ground broken for it later this year. Whether other temples will move that fast remains to be seen. But it was mentioned in the Church Growth Blog that President Nelson has told the Temple Department and Special Projects Division that he doesn't want the announcement of new temples to amount to an IOU to Latter-day Saints round the world. So the speed tof recent temple construction announcements are a reflection that they are listening to the Prophet and following that directive and impetus. Hopefully that means there is much more ahead. My personal opinion is that many of the 17 new GA Seventies called this month may be assigned to the Temple Department to aid in those efforts. Thanks, Eric, for stopping by to comment. I always appreciate hearing from you.
DeleteIt appears that I was so busy waiting for temple news that never came yesterday that I forgot to mention the other Church News and Newsroom updates shared on Monday. I will do so now, in addition to the updates from today:
ReplyDeleteWe start with the Newsroom, where it appears that the only update reported on Monday was the statement about the Pope's passing. Then today,, courtesy of the Peruvian Newsroom, this update was provided prior to the temple news being reported. So we've caught up on the Newsroom updates. Let's turn now to the Church News.
Aside from the statement about the Pope's death, yesterday, the Church News also reported the following: with 18 new stake presidencies called, 5 were newly created stakes, and 13 were stake reorganizations. Primary songs and music teach ch8ildren about the Gospel. Alberta's Easter celebrations were detailed, as was service rendered by Church members and missionaries in Central America.
As for Tuesday's Church News updates, aside from the two articles covering the temple news, the Church News also provided the following additional updates:
A Latter-day Saint and Olympic athlete also ran in the Boston Marathon. The newest episode of the Church News podcast introduces us to the newest General Authority Seventies and their testimonies. As Tuesday marked Earth Day, the Church News also provided an update on Churchwide efforts to be good global stewards of the Earth. And finally, Latter-day Saint youth in South America experienced and shared the Savior's "Greater Love".
We should be all up to date. No other new updates on the Church News, Newsroom, or Church Temples site insofar as I have been able to ascertain. My thanks once again to you all.
On this Wednesday, the Newsroom has shared one new report, while the Church News has shared a total of 5 new reports. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteConstruction status updates were noted today for the Ribeirão Preto Brazil and Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temples. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAn update has been noted for the on the McKinney Texas Temple. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Thursday, the Newsroom has shared two new reports, while the Church News has shared one thus far today. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThe Church News has shared one additional report, which speaks for itself. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAt least a couple new temple updates to report: Ground will be broken for the Lethbridge Alberta Temple at 11:00 AM MDT on Saturday. And there have been further massive shifts in the queue of temples estimated to be completed within the next 12-15 months, as reflected in this document. Having acknowledged those changes (which again shook up the queue of temples and thus my estimates for their future dedications), the one thing I wanted to add is a personal theory: If I am correct in my projections, the Burley Idaho Temple will likely be the last temple dedicated before the end of this year. Whether or not the also-completed Alabang Philippines Temple may also be dedicated before the end of this year remains less clear. But until further updates indicate otherwise, I am reasonably certain of the most likely scenario pertaining to the end of this year. With that said, my thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Friday, we start our coverage with the latest update on the McKinney Texas Temple, for which a conditional use permit has been granted with conditions. Oddly enough, the conditions proposed by the planning and zoning commission in this case were the same concessions the Church offered to give when, for a time, it looked like the city of Fairview wouldn't come back to the bargaining table. I'm not sure what will happen there. The Newsroom has shared, two new reports, while the Church News has shared three new reports, which speak for themselves, in addition to the latest edition of "This Week on Social". That latest edition included posts from the following general Church leaders:
DeleteChurch President Russell M. Nelson; his First Counselor, President Dallin H. Oaks; Elders D. Todd Christofferson and , of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson (via Relief Society Worldwide); a separate post, also from President Johnson; Sister Tamara W. Runia, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency (via Young Women Worldwide); the outgoing Young Men General Presidency (President Steven J. Lund and his counselors, Brothers Bradley R. (Brad) Wilcox & Michael T. Nelson); President Steven J. Lund and Brother Michael T. Nelson (in separate additional posts).
My thanks once again to you all.
Here is one more report from the Church News. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteI again took a hiatus from commenting yesterday due to my wife and I not feeling well again. So let's play catch-up. With no updates reported by the Newsroom this weekend, the Church News has shared the following updates the last two days:
ReplyDeleteFirst, yesterday, the Church News shared the following reports: Nadia Gavarret highlights the women witnessing the resurrected Christ, an updated chart showing the General Authorities and General Officers of the Church; the text of the message for today's broadcast of "Music & the Spoken Word; running water for an underserved Navajo nation; and a report on the attendance of Latter-day Saint leaders at Pope Francis' funeral services.
Then today, the Church News reported on Latter-day Saints involved in the nations' top boy's cross countr runners, an updated report of prophetic investigations from Church President Russell M. Nelson; what Church leaders have taught about D&C 41-44, the "Come, Follow Me" study for this upcoming week; and the top 11 developments reported by the Church News have been recapped in today's installment of "In Case You Missed It: Week in Review". My thanks once again to you all.
s
Sorry. The link to today's update from President Nelson should say "prophetic invitations", not "prophetic investigations". I apologize for the unintentional error.
DeleteThe open house for the Abidjan Ivory Coast Temple will kick off as scheduled on Monday morning (it is just past 7:30 AM in Abidjan now). My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAnd a new update on the San Diego California Temple now shows its' estimated completion at mid-to-late 2025. Based on the recent scheduling of dedications for US temples, I now estimate that temple's rededication may only occur in April of next year. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteOn this Monday morning, the Church News has shared one new report, while the Newsroom has shared the African Newsroom report on the media day of the open house for the Abidjan Ivory Coast Temple. Interestingly enough, the Newsroom has not yet shared the Canadian Newsroom report on Saturday's groundbreaking for the Lethbridge Alberta Temple. So that may be one update that will constitute the major temple construction announcement for today, but I don't think it's the only development we will see reported this afternoon. I'm hoping that the report on the Lethbridge Alberta Temple groundbreaking is accompanied by an announcement of one or more additional groundbreakings, site location confirmations, exterior renderings, or opening arrangements for the Burley Idaho and/or Alabang Philippines Temples. Whatever additional news is reported at 2:00 PM MDT will be shared here in a new post as time and circumstances allow. My thanks once again to you all.
DeleteThe Church News has shared its' coverage on the start of the Abidjan Ivory Coast Temple's open house. Stay tuned here for any additional updates prior to whatever additional updates are shared during the 2:00 PM MDT hour. For now, my thanks once again to you all.
DeleteAnd the main Newsroom has featured the news of the groundbreaking for the Lethbridge Alberta Temple. That item has not yet been updated on the Newsroom's home page for temple news, but may soon do exactly that. I still don't think that the open house for the Abidjan Ivory Coast Temple and the groundbreaking for the Lethbridge Alberta Temple will be the sum and total temple news this week, but stay tuned here throughout the 2:00 PM MDT hour to see if I'm correct on that. My thanks once again to you all.
