BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Groundbreaking Announced for the Maceio Brazil Temple

Hello again, everyone! Today, the First Presidency set groundbreaking arrangements for the Maceió Brazil Temple. Let's break down those details: the groundbreaking for this temple is set to take place on Saturday, October 10 (just one week after the October 2026 General Conference). Elder B. Corey Cuvelier of the Brazil Area Presidency will preside over that ceremony. This announcement follows that temple's announcement in April 2022, the site location confirmation in March 2023, and the release of its exterior rendering in May 2024.

Given the timing of this temple's groundbreaking, I'm sure other temple groundbreakings could be set to occur before it. But currently, this announcement marks the fourteenth in 2026. 2026 is currently 48 days behind 2025. But, as noted, I do anticipate other groundbreakings perhaps being set to occur before this one does. Time will tell how correct that notion is. This will mark the sixth Brazilian temple to join the current construction queue.

I had been hoping we might see other temple dedications announced, or additional information released about other temples, but I'm glad we at least got this announcement today. I invite you all to stay tuned here for my coverage of the latest updates from the Church News, Newsroom, and Church of Jesus Christ Temples sites. I’ll be sure to pass word of those along to you all as soon as I learn about them.

In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as all such feedback is made per the established guidelines. I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. If you liked what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added posts and comments, please subscribe to receive the applicable updates.

Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  2. I am grateful to see continued temple news or updates) during the month of July. I wasn't sure if we'd see too much during the time general authorities are on their breaks/vacations. But I think there has been something every week this month. I hope it continues.

    1. I hope so too, Chris. The queue of announced temples will be down to 98 once all 7 temples have their groundbreakings. And that's just with what's been scheduled so far. I think we are likely to see at least a few more groundbreakings take place between the end of August and the second Saturday in October, when this groundbreaking will take place. In the meantime, we've got four temples that are just awaiting the announcement of their opening arrangements, along with another 4-8 that aren't too far behind. I think we are likely to see at least one or two dedications next week, along with perhaps one or two temple groundbreakings. Let's hope the forward momentum continues. Thanks, as always, Chris, for taking time to comment. I always appreciate hearing from you.

  3. On this Tuesday, with no new updates from the Newsroom, the Church News has shared three key updates: how Latter-day Saint youth and young adults are serving others around the world; the Sunday School General Presidency shares their advice about teacher council meetings, and the latest edition of the Church News podcast shares details about the upcoming Salt Lake Temple Celebration that will take place between Monday, April 5, and Friday, October 1.

Among the notable points was that the Salt Lake Temple Celebration Committee is chaired by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; with Elders Quentin L. Cook, Neil L. Andersen, and Gary E. Stevenson of that Quorum also serving on the Committee. The committee also includes representatives from each of the Church's major departments and several other General Authorities and General Officers. As noted, the public open house will run 7 days a week.

In view of that fact, and the fact that all temples are thoroughly cleaned between the end of their respective open houses and their dedications, as I've noted, I believe the earliest the Salt Lake Temple will be rededicated is in mid-May 2028. If the Church proves me wrong on that, I will be just as delighted as I would be if I am right about it. My thanks once again to you all.

  4. I was Born and Raised in Utah but I have spent the majority of my adult life in Eastern Idaho. We a have a slight majority Latter-day Saint population but July 24th is not a state holiday. So I forget it's a holiday sometimes. Some of the wards and stakes that I have lived in have had pioneer day type activities or related talks and hymns in church. But not every year or ward that I have been in

    1. Hey, Chris! Thanks for sharing both of your comments here. Pioneer Day is always a special day for me, as someone born and raised in Utah. I'm sorry it's not as widely recognized in Idaho. But there are a number of people living in Utah for whom Pioneer Day is not as meaningful, so I can see both sides of that coin. I love living in Utah personally and can't imagine living anywhere else. Of course, I said that once about what I consider to be my hometown (American Fork) and I haven't lived there since 2015. so you never know. Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts. I always appreciate hearing from you.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
