Transcripts Available for General Women's Meeting

Hello again, everyone! I am doing yet another brief post, this one to let you all know that the transcripts for the Women's Session of General Conference are now available to review. Click here to access those transcripts. I remember that, as recently as 3-4 years ago, the talks for General Conference were only available late Thursday night or early Friday morning. But for the last several conferences, those talks are now available to review within 60 hours or less of when they have been given. I have always appreciated the chance to review General Conference talks, and hope each of you benefit by doing so as well. That does it for this post. Any comments are welcome and appreciated. Thank you for the privilege of your time, and may the Lord bless you in all that you do.

  1. I heard thst Sister Bingham not only conducted, but said she was presiding as well. Is this s new thing? I would assume it eould have Pres. Uchtdorf

    1. You heard incorrectly. Sister Bingham did not say anything about being the one presiding at the meeting. She did, however, acknowledge that President Monson was watching the meeting from home, that both Presidents Eyring and Uchtdorf were in attendance, and that the other Brethren in attendance were those who supervise the Priesthood and Family Department. Those Brethren were Elders Holland, Christofferson, and Rasband from the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and Presiding Bishop Gerald Causse. So the only thing that was different from past Women's Sessions was that they acknowledged President Monson was watching at home, not in attendance. Hope that helps. You can verify this very easily through watching the video playback of that session. The only thing that is not clear is who might be listed as presiding in the November Ensign. I could see an equal case for either President Monson (who was watching at home) or President Eyring (who was the senior leader actually attending.) Thanks, Scott!

    2. Scott, I was just thinking about how I worded my response to your question above. Hope you know I meant no offense. I just wasn't sure how someone may have gotten the idea that Sister Bingham said she was presiding at the meeting when she so clearly observed that President Monson was watching from home and these other Brethren were in attendance. I hope you don't take offense at what I said. I have a bad habit of offering a knee-jerk instant response and considering the tone of it later. Thanks for your question, and hope my answer to it was satisfactory. Thanks again.

  2. I remember when I was little, President Benson not in attendance, but sang a hymn or song from home that they broadcast. Is it possible for President Monson to give some remarks broadcast from home?

    1. I don't recall that at all. Do you remember which General Conference that might have been? Whenever it was, it was not among the things that have been shared in recent articles about when a prophet is absent from conference. Of course, I was not yet 8 years old when President Benson died. President Hunter was the prophet when I was baptized (in December 1994), and that President Hinckley succeeded him three months later. I am sure that, if President Monson has expressed a desire to participate in General Conference, he will figure out a way to do so. But it seems far more likely that he will step back (at least for this conference) and let his counselors take care of things. I won't rule out the possibility of a miracle occurring, but it seems unlikely. Thanks again, Chris!

    2. In the wake of the news that neither Elder Hales nor President Monson would participate in General Conference this weekend, I have shared that news in two separate blog posts. But I was curious about what you said, Chris, so I did the research. President Benson sang "Mormon Boy" in the April 1989 General Conference. It is no wonder I don't remember that. I was not yet 3 years old. I am glad of one thing, however: The reading I have done on the previous times Church presidents have not been able to function as such (particularly how things were handled during the presidencies of Presidents Kimball and Benson) have left me in no doubt that the Church will be fine in light of President Monson now stepping back from an active role in leading the Church. And I can share that with all of my readers, so that we all can be reassured the Lord is still very much in control of His Church. I testify of that truth, gratefully and wholeheartedly. I do think that President Nelson will be asked to give an extra address, or that we will have many other GA Seventies speak. And any new temples will be announced by President Eyring or President Uchtdorf. It will be neat to see how all of that works. And that in turn will set the pattern for what might happen in the other conferences for which President Monson and Elder Hales might be alive. It will be awesome to see.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
