Hello again, everyone! The Church News shared information yesterday (April 18) about an addditional
16 new temple presidents who will begin their service later this year. Of those 16 new temple presidents, 1 is a current area seventy (Elder Yutaka Onda, who will thus likely be released as an area seventy during the October General Conference), 1 is a former area seventy, 4 are serving currently in the presidency of the temple for which they will assume oversight, 1 served previously as a counselor in the presidency of a different temple than the one for which he will assume oversight, and 1 has previously served in the presidencies of two separate temples (1 of which is the same one for which he will be assuming oversight).
Also, 2 of the new temple presidents called to sere in Mexico temples currently live in Puebla, which I thought was an interesting coincidence. given that a temple for Puebla was announced last October in General Conference. There were 3 of those 16 new temple presidents whose calls I had not anticipated. The new Suva Fiji Temple president succeds a man who has only served for one year, and the new presidents of the Paris France and Calgary Alberta Temples succeed presidents who have only served for 2 years each.
The total number of new temple presidents which have been announced thus far this year is now 33. In addition to the 4 new temples for which the first presidents may be called later this year, there are 35 other operating temples whose current presidents have served for 3 or more years. The combined total on this year's list is thus now 72, which is roughly 34% of the total number of temples in any phase (209). That said, the latest copy of that list follows below.
In order to not disturb the flow of that information, I will end here and now as I always do: That does it for this post. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly-added content, please feel free to subscribe. Hello again, everyone! I wanted to post a comment here to share some additional Church news and temple developments which have crossed my radar within the 9 hours or so since I returned home following my procedure. Let's get right into all of that. I previously noted the Church's official Newsroom reporting on President Nelsons letter of sympathy to Pope Francis followimng the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedra. The Church News has since provided additional context relating to that development"

And the Church News also reported on the safety of missionaries in Taiwan in the aftermath of the magnitude 6.1 earthquake which recently struck that nation:

In other news, the First Presidency released the following Easter message, which was published on both the Newsroom's website and on that of the Church News:

And the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square will today and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday) present a selection of sacred music in honor of the upcoming Easter Sunday:

I have a couple of temple updates to pass along as well. At the Pocatello Idaho Temple, the excavation area is being dewatered, while dirt continues to be hauled from the temple site. There has still not been an update indicating that full-scale construction has begun on the Bangkok Thailand Temple., but I hope that changes soon, given that the groundbreaking for that temple will have been 3 months ago just one week from today.
In the meantime, it has been confirmed that demolition is finally underway on the Yigo chapel in order to prepare that property for its' groundbreaking two weeks from tomorrow (Saturday). The one other temple update I have relates to the Tokyo Japan Temple, where the statue of the angel Moroni was reinstalled on Wednesday April 17.. It is worth noting that I hope that, once the Salt Lake Temple renovation plans are announced in 7.5 hours, other temple-related announcements may be made for at least a few milestones that will take place following the annual July recess for the General Authorities.
news
In the meantime, you can count on my coverage of the news conference which will be held to detail the plans for the full-scale renovation of the Salt Lake Temple as soon as such information is available to me around 8 hours from now. With that said, my thanks once again to you all for your ongoing interest and support.
I am glad surgery went well. You take care yourself and recovery.
ReplyDeleteCuz I said before I am excited for the press conference on the renovation. This must be a big deal because they've never done a press conference on a renovation of any Temple before that I recall.
DeleteHey, Chris! I read both of your comments earlier, but was unab;e to respnd before now. I have given myself some time today to recover a bit more fully. That process is slow-going, but hopefully steady. I will continue to do my best to recover. It was somewhat unprecedented for the plans of a temple renovation to be announced via press conference. At the same time, the Salt Lake Temple is a culturally-significant icon of the Church, so making a public announcement makes sense in that respect. But above and beyond that, President Nelson, being technologically savvy as he is, is clearly embracing more opportunities to make major announcements on a wider scale outside of General Conference than we have previously seen. With all of that in mind, it is no surprise that the press conference was broadcast in relation to this project. I found it interesting that the renovation process is anticipated to take roughly 4 years, which is 10% of the length of time it took to originally build the temple I also do not think it is coincidental that the anticipated completion of that process for this temple will be wrapped up during the same year in which President Nelson will become the first centenarian prophet.
DeleteAnd with what has been said about President Nelson's health, vigor, and vitality, I have no doubt that he will not only be around to rededicate the temple himself, but may also be around another decade or two at minimum. Either way, given the 40-year delay between the groundbreaking for the Salt Lake Temple and its' subsequent dedication, it will be interesting to see how all the necessary work will wrap up by 2024. I have set my initial general estimate for the completion of that process as early-to-mid 2024, but I am sure that could either be pushed forward or back depending on how well the work progresses.
I have more I want to share in terms of my thoughts on today's announcement, but will do so in a brand new post I intend to publish later today. In the meantime, Chris, thank you, as always, for taking time to comment.
