BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Exterior Renderings Released for Three Temples In the Western United States

Hello again, everyone! An hour or two ago, my phone lit up with a massive amount of notifications, and some of those and other priorities demanded my immediate attention, But I wanted to share my analysis on some breaking temple news to which long-time reader Eric S. referred in the comments of the previous post. That comment was made at around the same time I received notice from the Church News app that this news has been reported. The Church today released three renderings for temples here in the western United States, namely: Moses Lake Washington, Tooele Valley Utah, and Washingtton County Utah Temples. In the coming months, project leaders will file public documents with city councils/planning and zoning commissions for the approrpriate approvals. The site locations for Moses Lake WashingtonTooele Valley Utah, and Washington County Utah temples were previously confirmed, so this is the next logical step. The addresses thereof and the sizes as detailed in those prior announcements have not changed very much. In fact, Moses Lake and Tooele Valley's detaied aniticipated sizes have not changed at all, period. The former will still be a single-story temple of approximately 20,000 feet. Although the newest release doesn't mention the adjoining meetinghouses for Moses Lake or Tooele Valley, barring anything unexpected, it appears the general plans for both of those will not change too much from the original announcements. As for the Washington County Utah Temple, we do not as yet have a more official name for it. (If that eventually happens, it will make sense, because according to what Elder Steven E. Snow said to Saints in Washington County within the last couple of years, a third temple to serve the Saints there will almost certainly be needed in the not-too-distant future, so the more general name for the second templehat county is not likely to stick.)  That said, the release in which the site for what will be the second  temple of the Church in the city of St. George was announced noted that the size of that temple was anticipated to be roughly 88,000 feet. Today's release adjusts that number slightly to 90,000 square feet, so either number, or anywhere in between the two, may be the temple's actual size.

A few other thoughts struck me about these newest announcements. First of all, President Nelson did not let the moss grrow under his feet too much following this weekend's General Conference. And with Elder Bednar's statement made on Sunday that a total of 18 new temples would have a groundbreaking during this year, these 3 can safely be added to the queue. Above and beyond that, since the temple in Tooele Valley Utah is going to be built at an accelerated pace, that temple probably will move to the top of the "Groundbreaking Anticipated" section of my temple construction progress report. With Moses Lake Washington's planned size, that may not be far behind other US temples I currently have listed in that section. And with Washington County's larger size likely resulting in approval taking slightly longer, that temple may be slightly lower in that section. I will be reworking that and get it published here by way of a new post or comment on this post hopefully later today or ASAP tomorrow at latest.

In the meantime, that does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. 1. Hello! How is your health and that of your wife?

First, thank you for your time not only in your blog, but also in that of your friend, it is seen that you love the work of the gospel and that it weighs all your obstacles you keep on going.

I saw and heard the conference this weekend, 4 sessions, and what I most expected were the announcements from the temples or that they talked about GENEALOGY, HOMOSEXUAL, EXCOMMUNICATED, etc. and how important it is to live the gospel and not just repeat a and again the same without real actions, from leaders and baptized.

The subjects touched were normal, the music of the choir as always sublime.

    A hug from Chile

    1. Hello again, Omar! Thanks for this additional comment here. My wife and I are all right. My wife continues to recover from the surgery she had in February, and I have been able to gradually get a few of my own health issues a little more resolved in the last 1-3 weeks. We still have a lot to figure out, but we are getting closer to answers for both of us, so we are definitely happy about that.

In the meantime, being able to provide this coverage here on my blog, and to make comments on the Church Growth Blog, have been choice opportunities for me to share my faith and my enthusiasm for all the good things that are happening in the Church, so it's my pleasure to provide all such analysis.

In the meantime, you commented about seeing "4 sessions" of General Conference. There was one other. Which one have you not seen? There were 3 on Saturday (Morning, Afternoon, and Evening) and 2 on Sunday (Morning and Afternoon)? Hopefully you'll be able to watch whichever session you missed soon It was wonderful to see the Church find ways to enable Church members worldwide enjoy conference through television, radio, and the internet in these unique circumstances. With a focus on the bicentennial of the major events of the restoration, the major topics were the First Vision, the Book of Mormon, the Priesthood, temples, and missionary work. There was some mention made of family history work during the Sunday Morning Session (specifically in the talks by Elder Bednar and President Nelson). It was nice to hear some comments from Church leaders reiterating the invitation to disaffected and excommunicated members to come back, and that the Church has been able to reiterate its' stance on loving others and living with differences in belief or opinions, and that they continue to emphasize hating the sin but loving the sinner.

I treasure the scriptural insight that "all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God." There was only ever One Perfect Man to ever live on this Earth in any dispensation. Everyone else can and will fall short once in a while. But I'm glad that the Church also reemphasized respect for all. With the talks from the most recent General Conference focused solely on topics related to the restoration, any other topics were likely not as important this go-round. But since President Nelson has become Church President, I'd say that a majority of the major announcements and adjustments that did not have to be addressed specifically during General Conference were announced and explained more fully outside of those.

It was also great to see that the Church took a look back at significant events that framed the Restoration in the past, while looking forward to things moving at an accelerated pace. President Nelson has now announced 43 new temples during his first 5 General Conferences, which is an average of just below 9 every six months. And more clarifications and adjustments to doctrines, policies, and practices will no doubt continue to come both inside and outside General Conference.

I was impressed to see how the Church used a combination of music specifically prerecorded by the current members of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and also archived music from past General Conferences of the Church. And the way that General Conference was able to proceed as scheduled in spite of COVID-19 (even though several adjustments had to be made for it) was likewise remarkable. What a rich spiritual outpouring it was. Thanks again, Omar, for taking time to comment. I always appreciate hearing from you.

  4. Hello again, everyone! As some of you might recall, in announcing the 2020 Churchwide events scheduole, Church leaders had indicated that a Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults would be held on May 3. Whth that event not yet having been postponed, I am asuming that it will go ahead in digital form (with only a handful of individuals physically present). Based on the fact that the featured speaker has not yet been publicly identified, and remembering times in the past when the speaker had not been announced within a month of such devotionals in the past, I am theoriizng that the speaker at that devotional might be President Nelson. I could be wrong on that, but that is my theory at this point. My thanks once again to you all.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
