BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Exterior Rendering Released for Montpelier Idaho Temple

Hello again, everyone! On March 6, the Church announced a groundbreaking for the Montpelier Idaho Temple, but a rendering for it had not been released. Per a new update on the Church's home page for 2023 temple news, that news release has been updated to show an exterior rendering for the Montpelier Idaho Temple

So we now officially have a rendering for that temple. I am pleased we at least got this update. I continue to monitor all other temple construction, Church News, and Newsroom updates, and will be sure to pass those along to you all here as I become aware of them. In the meantime, that does it for now. All comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated on any post at any time, as long as the offered feedback is made per the established guidelines.

I hope any of you who would like to share anything will take your opportunity to “sound off” in the comments below. Please subscribe if you liked what you read here and would like to be informed of newly-added posts and comments. Thank you for the privilege of your time. Until my next post, I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

In addition to what was noted in the subthread there, the Church News also shared coverage of the release of this temple rendering:

    4. A new update on the St. George Utah Temple indicates that major renovations are complete and that interior work is nearly completed:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/st.-george-utah-temple/

Since we have two completed new temples (Lima Peru Los Olivos and McAllen Texas), and theRed Cliffs Utah Temple is close to completion, I believe Los Olivos and McAllen will get announcements first. Red Cliffs and St. George could be the next two after that, however.

For now, I stand by my statement that Los Olivos, McAllen, and Red Cliffs will likely be dedicated before the end of this year, with Urdaneta and Puebla as either the last for this year or the first for next year.

I also stand by my view that the St. George rededication may only take place next year in several sessions over several days. Stand by for updates on these theories as each teme event is announced. My thanks once again to you all.

    5. On this Wednesday, the Church News has shared 3 new updates that speak for themselves:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/members/2023/4/26/23697962/byu-womens-conference-may-3-5-what-to-know-faq

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2023/4/26/23688607/military-advisory-committee-service-members-families-worldwide

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/global/2023/4/26/23699146/africa-donations-hospital-equipment-wheelchairs-prosthetics-neonatal-resuscitation

And a new report on the Stockholm Sweden Temple indicates that the temple is being decommissioned, so the renovation process that will enlarge that temple has begun:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/stockholm-sweden-temple/

I was surprised that has started already. I had projected that it might only start around the same time as the October 2023 General Conference weekend. Renovations are estimated to be completed sometime in 2026, so I've set a general rededication window of mid-to-late 2026.

My thanks once again to you all.

    6. And a minor status update has been noted on the status of the Salt Lake Temple:

      https://churchofjesuschristtemples.org/salt-lake-temple/

My thanks once again to you all.

    7. The Church News has shared one other report on the latest BYU-Idaho Devotional, which featured Church Historian and Recorder Elder Kyle S. McKay:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2023/4/26/23699706/elder-mckay-byu-idahoi-devotional-sure-foundation-regardless-of-doubt

      Also, I took another look at the status of the Stockholm Sweden Temple, and the Church Temples site notes that while it is being decommissioned, it is still open during renovations, which does not match what the Church said about the intent to close and enlargen this temple;

      https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/open-house-and-dedication-announced-for-san-juan-puerto-rico-temple

The Church's official page for that temple notes that it is closed for renovation as well:

      https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/temples/details/stockholm-sweden-temple?lang=eng

As a result, I've reached out to the webmaster of the Church Temples site to get some clarification on the part of the status that indicates the temple is "open during renovation". I will let you know more on this when I receive an answer. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    8. On this Thursday, one of two Church News reports speaks for itself:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/global/2023/4/27/23698212/saints-in-uk-ireland-england-make-british-pageant-costumes

And the First Presidency has also announced the first president and matron for the Okinawa Japan Temple:

      https://www.thechurchnews.com/callings/2023/4/27/23697784/new-okinawa-japan-temple-president-and-matron

The have served together and individually in a wide range of Church assignments at the local level. The two currently serve as president and matron of the Japan Sapporo Mission. The total number of temple leaders called so far this year now stands at 47, and there are a minimum 8 more currently-operating temples for which new leaders could be identified, while another 7 new temples (at minimum) could likewise have their first leaders identified. My thanks once again to you all.

    9. Sorry. I just now realized that, in my comment above, I forgot to include the link to my updated list tracking temples for which new leaders have been called this year. Here is that document:

      https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZFxVX_M7JfchmzNG_7QAMP00a6jLLvfZjFIy-ka1Ut0/edit?usp=sharing

Additionally, there has been another major shift in the construction queue of temples anticipated to be completed within the next year or so. I am sharing the updated estimates and the temples associated with each estimate:

Dedication Scheduled: Richmond Virginia; Helena Montana; Saratoga Springs Utah; Brasilia Brazil; Bentonville Arkansas; Moses Lake Washington; Feather River California; Bangkok Thailand; Okinawa Japan
Completed: McAllen Texas; Lima Peru Los Olivos; Red Cliffs Utah; St. George Utah
      Mid-2023: Urdaneta Philippines; Puebla Mexico
Mid-to-late 2023: Salta Argentina; Coban Guatemala; Layton Utah
Late 2023: Orem Utah; Taylorsville Utah; Casper Wyoming
      Late 2023-early 2024: Tallahassee Florida
      Early 2024: Abidjan Ivory Coast
Early-to-mid 2024: Mendoza Argentina; Manti Utah
      Mid-2024: Pittsburgh Pennsylvania; Salvador Brazil;

As these updates show, the completed McAllen Texas Temple has been placed ahead of the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple, and full-scale efforts have concluded for both the St. George and Red Cliffs Utah Temples. Though the estimates for Urdaneta and Puebla haven't changed, the Salta Argentina and Coban Guatemala Temples are now ahead of the Layton, Orem, and Taylorsville Utah Temples.

In view of these major shifts, I will need to make updates to my more specific estimates for the timing on other dedications or rededications that are likely to occur in the next 14 months or so. I wil be sure to pass along my revised thoughts on that here later today. For now, my thanks once again to you all.

    10. Today's spring commencement exercises at BYU-Provo marked the last time outgoing BYU-Provo President Kevin J. Worthen would speak as president. Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (who, in the absense of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, represented the Church Board of Education and the Exectuvie Committee of the Boards). Elder Christofferson was accompanied by his wife, Sister Kathy J. Christofferson, Elders Matthew S. Holland and Clark G. Gilbert (the latter of whom was accompanied by his wife, Sister Christine Gilbert). Elder Gilbert serves as the Commissioner of Church Education.

  4. I can confirm that according to CDOL theventire Stockholm temple Presidency has been released. They don't always release the presidency during renovations, but sine it has happened that would indicate that the temple is closed. Currently the only other Temple without a Presidency is Salt Lake.

    1. Hey, Scott! Thanks for your comment. After I last posted my latest comment on the Stockholm Sweden Temple, I actually reached out to the webmaster of the Church Temples site, and the page on that site for that temple was updated with the note that the temple is closed for renovation and that the temple is being decomissioned. So I'm not surprised that the CDOL reflects that updated information. I've had a crazy few days health-wise, which is probably why I never shared a follow-up comment here reflecting that update. So the CDOL page essentially confirms the information that was updated on the Church Temples site since my last comment on this matter. Thanks again.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
