April 2021 General Conference Predictions Final Edition

Hello again, everyone! Now that the countdown to the Saturday Morning Session of the April 2021 General Conference is down to just over 10 hours, I have finalized my predictions for this upcoming General Conference. The document to which I linked in the previous sentence replaces the three separate documents to which I previously linked. I'd like to thank all who participated in the dialogue about these predictions in every stage thereof.

With the upcoming General Conferenc anticipated to have a key focus on Easter, it will be interesting to see what happns therein. To the best of my ability, I will keep tabs on all such news and will pass my analysis of those developments along as I am able to do so. That will include up-to-the-minute coverage of any developments that constitute breaking news. I have a feeling this will be yet another unforgettable conference for a variety of reasons that we cannot presently discern right now.

That does it for now. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time. If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. Hello again, everyone! Roughly two hours before the beginning of the April 2021 General Conference, the Church News noted the callings of 30 new stake presidencies:

I may or may not have previously noted this, but with the Church able to safely resume stake conferences now, whether virtually, in person, or through a mix of both, we are likely to see many new stake presidency reogranizations in the coming weeks as the Church and its' leaders try to deal with any backlog in those that may have occurred as a result of COVID-19. Hope you all enjoy this General Conference weekend. Stay tuned for coverage on the latest here. My thanks once again to you all.

    1. I failed to note another update from the Church News, which provides the opportunity to subscribe to daily news updates or a weekly newsletter:

    2. This afternoon, the Church noted changes in general Church leadership as follows:

      https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/april-2021-general-conference-new-leaders

As anticipated, reference was made to the list of area seventies that had previously been sustained, and President Oaks called for a sustaining vote on that lsit. Also anticipated were the changes in the Primary General Presidency, though it was impossible to predict the names of the new members thereof. One unexpected development also occurred, the advanced release of Elders Robert C. Gay and Terence M. Vinson. 5 changes in the Presidency of the Seventy, 2 immediate and 3 more in advance (which took effect in August), were sustained in April 2018. Then, last year, the 1 change that was sustained in October had gone into effect in August. So I didn't think that changes in the Presidency of the Seventy for this year would be presented in advance. The upcoming release of Elders Robert C. Gay and Terence M. Vision were announced, and a vote of gratitude taken. The new members of the Presidency of the Seventy, who will start serving on August 1, are Elders Paul V. Johnson (GA Seventy since April 2005 and current Commissioner of Church Education) and S. Mark Palmer (GA Seventy since April 2016 and currently serving as President of the Africa South Area) will be the new members of the Presidency of the Seventy.

I had a feeling Elder Palmer might be one of the two called to the Presidency this year, and I'm grateful to have that verified. Additionally, the 2020 Statistical Report for the Church has been made available:

My thanks once again to you all.

    3. Sorry. I also forgot to note that each of the area seventies released were sustained to be new General Authority Seventies, so I assume that those called to serve as temple or mission presidents will be released as area seventies in October. My thanks once again to you all.

  2. Something I found interesting about the 77 new Area Seventies, five are listed as currently serving as mission presidents. Four of them finished their service this year and have their replacements announced. One of those four is Elder Chiles. He is from Canada and serving in Vietnam. His call lists him as serving in the 4th Quorum of Seventy, so it appears as though he will remain in Vietnam, or elsewhere in Asia, after he is officially released as Mission President.

    1. Thanks for that insight, Scott. I had not noticed that. I appreciate your attention to detail when it comes to matters relating to area seventies. I was intrigued by the fact that the only area seventies released were those called as General Authority Seventies. I guess the Church will continue to release area seventies called to be mission or temple presidents in October. Thanks again, Scott, for taking time to share your thoughts here. I always appreciate hearing from you.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
