BREAKING TEMPLE NEWS: Open House & Dedication Dates Announced for Lisbon Portugal Temple

Hello again, everyone! As some of you saw in the comment threads of another post on this blog, the open house and dedication dates have been announced for the Lisbon Portugal Temple. Public open house tours will be held from Saturday August 17 to Saturday August 31, except for the Sundays of August 18 and 25. A youth devotional will be held on Saturday September 14, and the temple will be dedicated in 3 sessions on Sunday September 15. More details on this can be found in the official release from the Church's Newsroom website.

So that temple dedication will be held two weeks after the dedication of the Port-au-Prince Haiti Temple. And I am grateful that the Lord justified my feeling that the Lisbon Portugal Temple will indeed be dedicated before a dedication occurs for the Durban South Africa Temple. In the coming weeks, I anticipate the announcement of the rededication information for the Raleigh North Carolina Temple, and perhaps an announcement of groundbreaking dates being set for one or more temples within the next couple of months. I will keep my eyes open for any such information, and will be sure to pass word of such developments along to you all as I receive it.

That does it for this post. Any and all comments are, as always, welcome and appreciated, on any post at any time, as long as such comments are made in accordance with the established guidelines. Thank you for the privilege of your time.  If you enjoyed what you read here and would like to stay informed of newly-added content, please feel free to subscribe. Until my next post, I wish each one of you all the best and pray that the Lord will bless you all in everything you do.

  1. Hello again, everyone! I just wanted to post a quick note here. I found out a short while ago that, with the announcement of the dedication information for the Lisbon Portugal Temple, most sources available to me have shifted the completion estimate for the Durban South Africa Temple to late 2019. The jury is still out on whether or not the dedication for the Arequipa Peru Temple will be set to occur prior to or sometime after the dedication of the Durban South Africa Temple. I may take time in the near future to revisit that question. My thanks again to you all.

  2. Hello James! I would keep my eye on the Church News today, especially regarding the re-branding of lds.org.

    1. Unknown, thank you. Due to some health issues I've been struggling with, I heard the news about this development first on the noon news from KSL, in addition to the information about the Frankfurt Germany Temple rededication. I blogged about both developments before checking the comments of other posts. That said, I just wanted to mention here that to say the sites are being "rebranded" may not be correct, in light of what President Nelson shared in his August statement and October General Conference talk last year. This is a name correction, not a rebranding.

And the thing that stands out to me is this: Around two decades or so ago, the Church altered the official logo to reemphasize the Savior's name, and guidelines were issued about using the correct name of the Church. But it seemed that enough was not done at that time in terms of the Church and the world following the new guidelines, so stronger efforts have now become necessary. I'm with President Nelson on this one: the prophet Mormon would not want the Savior's Church nicknamed after him. And I have a feeling that the Lord is preparing to pour down a blessing on the Church, as President Nelson promised would be the case for those who are acting on this re-emphasis which has been sorely needed for a long time now. Thank you again for taking time to comment.

  4. I think the church should keep ownership of the old domain names and websites and have them set to forward or be redirected to the new websites. That way we can keep them out of the hands of antis. It is sad that the domain name for the full name of the church is taken by a breakaway group. Thuy usethe same name for their church but without the dash in latter-day saints.

    1. Chris, as anyone who has worked with websites can tell you, anytime a domain name change is needed for such sites, it is sometimes easier to get the URL that best works for such resources than it is to get that and hold on to the existing one. If the Church is making arrangements for these changes, I am sure that they have considered how to prevent the present URLs from falling into the wrong hands. I say that because President Nelson is very tech savvy, and those who work on the Church websites seem to be able to handle most of those kinds of changes without too much difficulty. None of the changes identified will be made/implemented right away. Changing a domain name and subpages, especially when multiple subpages and languages are involved in the equation, is a huge task. I have a feeling that the endgame goal was announced here today, and that these changes will be rolled out as feasibly and quickly as possible over the next few weeks and months.

Either way, the Brethren do know what they are doing, and I believe that, following the October General Conference when President Nelson expanded on the statement he made in mid-August, the preliminary wheels were set in motion. We are now seeing what the end result will be, and the process is clearly underway. And, quite honestly, anyone familiar with anything about either websites in general or the Church in particular will likely not have a hard time at all spotting the difference between an anti-site (if the lds.org URL is scooped up by the antis) and the official website of the Church. And it appears that, at least for the foreseeable future, anyone trying to go to lds.org will be redirected to the new official site. Whether or not that remains permanent may not yet be known, but it will be interesting to see that process unfold. Thanks, Chris, for taking time to comment.

    1. Hello, Eric, and thank you for taking time to comment. As I mentioned above, I caught news about the Church websites and platforms and the rededication of the Frankfurt Germany Temple on the noon news on KSL. It is interesting to be sure that, just one day after announcing the dedication for the Lisbon Portugal Temple, the rededication of the Frankfurt Germany Temple was announced as well. Back-to-back temple-related announcements on conseuctive days may become the new normal.

In light of this new temple development, I will once again have to revisit my specific estimates for known temple events in the near future, which could be posted on this blog again later this week. In the meantime, thank you, Eric, as always, for taking time to comment.

In addition to my life-long love for the subjects which I cover in the posts of this blog, I have long held the belief that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable. Differences of opinion are natural, while being disagreeable in expressing those differences is not. And in that sense, I have no desire to close the door on anyone who earnestly desires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on subjects covered in the posts on this blog.

At the same time, however, I recognize that we live in a time when incivility, discourtesy, unkindness, and even cyber-bullying has regrettably become part of online interactions. With that in mind, while anyone who wishes can comment on anything if they choose to do so, I hereby reserve the right to immediately delete any comments which are critical, unkind, lack civility, or promote prodcuts, services, and values contrary to either the Church, or to the rules of online etiquette.

I'd also like to remind all who comment here that I try to respond personally to each individual comment as I feel is appropriate. Such replies are not meant to end the conversation, but to acknowledge earnest feedback as it is submitted.

And in order to better preserve the spirit and pure intentions for which this blog was established, I also hereby request that anyone not commenting with a regular user name (particularly those whose comments appear under the "Unknown" or "Anonymous" monikers, give the rest of us a name to work with in addressing any replies. If such individuals do not wish to disclose their actual given names, a pseudonym or nickname would suffice.

Any comments made by individuals who opt to not give a name by which they can ber identified may, depending on the substance and tone of such comments, be subject to deletion as well. I would respectfully ask that all of us do all we can to keep the dialogue positive, polite, and without malice or ill-will. May the Lord bless us all in our discussion of these important matters.
